3rd Quarter Review of the Nerdette vs.
@FROG debate:
Your half time show is a concert by the female "shrewcore" group
Rent Free. They will be performing a mercifully abridged version of their new single "Ethan is dumb (Reeeeeeee)."
Thank you ladies. That was absolutely unlistenable. On to the show:
- EVS and Nerdette get into an argument about Nerdette claiming the Punisher is a hate symbol while taking money from a company making Punisher wallets and saying they're cool. EVS calls that hypocritical. Nerdette retorts that she would have gotten the Punisher wallet regardless, but she got to pick another, and picked Batman. She also says she only claimed that the Punisher symbol has been co-opted by hate groups, and that she doesn't actually think it's a hate symbol.
- Quick cut back to Ernst: Somebody in chat points out that Ernst admitted to gay opping with Hut. Nerdette says she'll believe it if she sees that Doug admitted to it.
- And now we're back to the wallet: EVS claims that the manufacture did not "notice" Nerdette. and sponsors thousands of people, and then she lost her sponsorship because her video views are far out of wack with her 63k subscriber count. This leads to Nerdette whining about how she actually has great engagement. EVS says that unless she's copying Johnny Depp content, her videos usually get less than 1K views. Apparently, at some point after pulling their sponsorship, Nerdette went off on the wallet manufacturer.
- Somebody points out in chat the TUG got a huge boost in subs from Johnny Depp content. Both EVS and Nerdette agree on this, but EVS notes that the wallet manufacture doesn't care about Johnny Depp content and that's why she lost a comic book themed wallet sponsorship.
- More about EVS saying D.C. was going to go out of business in June 2021. EVS states that the sale in June of 2021 to Discovery is evidence of their dire financial situation and that his predictions aren't always 100% spot on. Basically, I think he's saying that instead of going tits up, it turned out there was a divestiture by AT&T, and sale of the entire WB division.
- Massive dead air as Nerdette tries to go look for a "gotcha" on Ethan. She pulls up an article concerning "female underlings" at D.C.. Ethan claims that a lot of low level female employees at D.C. got to stay while many other people were fired. Apparently, Nerdette takes issue with Ethan saying females are now in more positions of power at D.C.. She doesn't articulate her point very well here, so I'm not 100% sure WTF is going on. It doesn't seem to go anywhere anyways.
- Nerdette claims that Ethan cites his inside sources every six months and is wrong.
- Nerdette: "How many times do you have to be wrong?"
- EVS: "How many times do you have to be inconsistent?"
- EVS claims that Nerdette hangs out with Force Adversity and other SJWs. Nerdette says no, and she "hates that dude." EVS also brings up Justsomepedo, and claims that he's abandoned Nerdette. Nerdette says that she just hasn't had him on for a while. Admittedly, EVS doesn't do a very good job naming names, but she does seem to tacitly admit she likes JSG.
- Nerdette: "You're always wrong." EVS: "I'm never wrong."
- Nerdette claims that EVS made Mike S. Miller take down his "Pride is a sin" anti-gay thing back in 2019. EVS says he never did that. Nerdette says she "was there." Some quick Twitter research shows that EVS "chastised" Mike for that, but I dunno if that's the same thing as making him take it down. Presumably Ethan would say there's a distinction.
- Discussion about ESG. Nerdette does not believe wanting to combat climate change is left-wing. EVS argues that some of the proposed solutions are.
- In a somewhat spicy take, EVS straight up says climate change isn't happening. He mocks Nerdette for thinking "Jim Lee will never be fired from D.C., but California will be under ten feet of water in three weeks." That could very well be a strawman, but I LOL'd just the same.
- Nerdette says she never said that, and she doesn't know enough about climate change, but doesn't think it's bullshit. Says FROG is anti-Science.
- Back to the D.C. thing: Nerdette says that she absolutely thinks D.C.
wanted to abandon their own digs, and move in with Crunchyroll. As near as I can tell, Nerdette is trying to hammer home the point that EVS was wrong in that D.C. didn't go out of business, while EVS is emphasizing the major downgrade they endured last year, so he wasn't
completely wrong. Is this moving the goalposts? Maybe a little, sure. I think where Nerdette might be screwing up here is in implying, if not outright saying, that D.C.
isn't experiencing financial hardship. As if to say that because they didn't go completely tits up as EVS said, their situation must be diametrically opposed to EVS's prediction. That doesn't logically track though. They could be both alive, and in trouble.
- EVS points out that D.C. does not have autonomy over at WB, and do not get to pick where they stay (I believe this). Says if Nerdette believes that D.C. made the call to move from a beautiful three story office, to hotdesking, and not WB, she's stupid.
- Nerdette says "nobody said they chose it." EVS said "You just did!" He's right.
- Nerdette takes issue with the fact that EVS says D.C. was "evicted" from their previous space. Says eviction only occurs when you can't pay. That's actually wrong, but more importantly she doesn't seem to grasp that EVS is saying that WB made the call and this has nothing to do with the property owner because D.C. is basically insulated from dealing with property holder as a subsidiary of WB. D.C. had to GTFO, ostensibly against their wishes, on WB's orders. EVS goes on to say that the money D.C. is bringing in can't justify that space anymore in WB's eyes.
This part made my head hurt, because instead of just saying EVS was wrong in predicting D.C.'s demise in 2021,, she overextends her hand by trying really hard to depict D.C. in a good financial light. EVS also mentions that two-thirds of their staff is gone, but Nerdette never offers any reply to this.
- Nerdette tries to claim "hot desking" is more expensive than having a three story building to oneself. Without evidence. EVS basically just scoffs.
- Vikkiverse is chimping in chat throughout all this and tries to throw Nerdette a lifeline by saying the move is just because of COVID. Nerdette willingly takes up said lifeline. EVS says that's a cope. Vikki also parrots that a planned move isn't an eviction, but
also doesn't get EVS' point that D.C. had no choice in the matter. They didn't plan it. WB did. One could argue EVS shouldn't have used the term eviction, but it's pretty fucking close in terms of practical outcome.
- Nerdette: "Everybody is wrong except Ethan." Actually, I would argue that everybody claiming D.C.'s publishing arm is doing just fine is absolutely delusional compared to Ethan. He's undoubtedly right on this one. D.C. comic sales are shit. Where is the revenue?
- EVS asks Nerdette if D.C. told WB that they wanted to stay at their old office, could they have done so. Nerdette initially says "I'm sure," but then quickly changes that to "I have no idea, I'd have to check." (PROTIP: they couldn't).
- Nerdette asks if CG isn't a hate group, why do they not have problems with big names in their community "hating on queer people." She then plays
a video of JDA saying "Homosexuality is a sin." Of all the stupid shit that JDA has said over the years that she
could have brought up, she goes with
this. I barely have the words. Yes, Tristen, some people believe homosexuality is a sin. It's considered such by the official books in all three abrahamic religions. That's positively miquetoast by JDA standards. Or
any standards.
Also, JDA is not a "big name in CG." . Hell, people in this thread give him shit for thinking he is
all the time.
@robo6 would probably slap the shit out Nerdette for this shamefur dispray.
In any event, EVS notes the inconsistently with her giving him shit over what happened with SMiller, and now bringing this up. Says he's still not going to give his own personal views on homosexuality, and points out that JDA's view is a legitimate Christian view (fair).
Vikki tries to salvage this clusterfuck by Nerdette:
- Nerdette: "Why do you make fun of people with pronouns?" EVS: "Pronouns are stupid."
- With 30 minutes left, they're apparently going back to Spiderman being gay. I'm gonna save that for tomorrow.
TL;DR: EVS won this quarter,
hands down. Nerdette doesn't seem to understand how large corporations with multiple subdivisions work very well. She's dumb, and her voice was somehow even more obnoxious than usual. Also, I can't help but notice she did come across as awfully SJW-like near the end. Instead of critiquing EVS like we would, she started to critique him like a Tumblrette would.
