I'm pages behind, but this one is really horrifying in a quiet, understated way. The little boy is very earnest- as many small kids are- and wants his true, real friends to know who he really is. Agreed, the surgeries they are talking about are usually things like removing internal tissue that has a tendency to become cancerous. There is legitimate debate about how early surgery should be done in some cases, but surgery is not being done today just to shove kids into the “gender binary.”

It is just part of the greater troon fantasy about “intersex” meaning having two types of external genitals (a literal physical impossibility). As part of that fantasy you have to pretend that literal hermaphrodites are being born all the time but the only reason you don’t see them everywhere is because the evil doctors are chopping bits off.
