It is not gonna be 20 grand for most people. That is just for Pell grants. Every other loan will get 10,000 forgiven which is what the majority of Americans have.

It is also going to cost around 300 billon.
I dont think you know what you are talking about. Pell grants are not a loan. They are a grant.

You get them for being poor. They usually pay enough for community college (or used too) being poor meant you would get those plus student loans if going to a state tier school or higher (or getting taken for a ride by a DeVry). But if going to a cheap enough school you could just use the grant to pay tuition.

Can someone break it down barney style to what the loan forgiveness shit means?

Would taking forgiveness royally fuck someone over 10 ways to sunday (I already know it fucks over every tax payer) over a period of time. Is it even worth applying for if you have under 10k worth in loans?
Well, now. I'm sure all those people with student loans will be sure to note the debt cancellation on their taxes.

Under current law, the tax code treats forgiven or canceled debt as taxable income, with some exceptions. If a borrower has debt forgiven, it is treated as if the borrower earned additional income in the previous tax year equal to the amount of forgiven debt. For example, if a borrower with an annual taxable income of $35,000 owes $20,000 in debt that is subsequently forgiven or canceled, the $20,000 in debt is added to their taxable income for a total of $55,000. Generally, a borrower is provided a 1099-C tax form when debt is canceled or forgiven, which reports the forgiven amount as taxable income to the IRS and the taxpayer. - https://taxfoundation.org/student-loan-debt-forgiveness/
Pretty much depends on your life issues .

beyond that issue is a two-faced gift that does not take in account current tax law which needs to be updated but, again.

I know what it is. It is an income based grant that goes to people from extreme low income backgrounds. Usually people of color. That is what the 20,000 forgiveness goes to. Everything else is 10,000 forgiven.

"Pell Grants are awards geared toward low-income students to help them cover the costs of their college expenses. The award varies, but the max is currently set at $6,895 for the 2022-23 academic year. Pell Grants are often used by students of color."

"In a tweet, Biden said he intends to cancel up to $20,000 of student loan debt for Pell Grant recipients and $10,000 for all other borrowers. The president is also extending a moratorium on loan payments until Dec. 31."

As for how this is gonna function if you have both? No one knows. Biden did this by unilateral executive decision.

STEM is actually a huge scam too. Lots of people get STEM degrees and struggle to find a job. The real value in those degrees is the internship pipeline and being eligible for internships to get your foot in the door.

This was already true 20 years ago. If you got a BS in engineering and did zero internships, good luck getting hired.
This is accurate. These days I get applications for engineers of all disciplines with over 3.5 GPAs, internships, and extracurriculars for entry level positions. STEM, at least engineering, is fully saturated. As far as I recall, engineering was one of the last STEM degrees that had considerable growth. The idea of a guaranteed job is no longer a reality for STEM. I don’t think that’s going to change, which changes the value proposition of STEM degrees. Of course, there’s lots of effort to add more diversity and any nigga with an engineering degree will jump to the front of the line. It’s gotta be frustrating to pull all nighters, working your ass off, and see Shitavious who got a 2.1 GPA get a job offer before you. I don’t know how current huwhite engineering students take it so well.

Lots of people get them other than blacks. Any poor white area who send their kid to community college will be getting them.

And then there is the scam where you can get the full amount once you turn 25 while still living with your parents. I remember running into plenty of stoner kids who would take the cheap community college classes and then take about the 1000 dollar left over (back then probably not as much now) and smoke it.

If you are 25 and fall into the "working your way through college" archetype boomers throw out as the ideal you are probably eligible for it.

One reason public pools in black neighborhoods get shut down because “where did the money go?” is a fact of life in neighborhoods run buy black Democrats. The bucket crabs didn’t exactly promote honest leadership, ya know?
Speaking of, our new black mayor appointed a man to the Domestic Violence Task Force who was convicted of... wait for it... beating his 6 year old daughter! Truly an act of restorative justice!

I've penned a scathing letter that's sitting in Drafts (as per my self-imposed cool down period) and I just might send it, dammit!!

Here is the thing about education: education doesn't actually make people smarter or dumber. You are basically as smart as you ever will be after about five years old. Everything after that is just supplements. If you are retarded, no amount of education can make you un-retarded. The vast majority of people are retarded, and how much money you make is a matter of how smart you are, relative to your social class. So, most people will get college degrees, still be retarded, and still be poor.

What education does provide is opportunity. This is why smart people should get degrees, and why schools should have segregated classes for 'gifted' children, because it's a benefit to society to allow people who are actually smart to be able to transcend their current social class in order to provide better production and innovation to society.

People need to be honest with themselves about how smart they are, how smart their children are, and how valuable college, trades, or whatever will actually be for them.

Allowing student loans to be bankrupt would go a long way into reinforcing this idea.

This view is understandable but I have to disagree. In my a bit over half-century on this Earth I have seen more and more of this push to believe that the only way one can be successful is to get a degree, any degree. Alongside increasingly ignoring trade schools or methods of employment.

Children are basically indoctrinated to believe the only possible way to have success in life is to get a degree, and that any degree will open up opportunities for you. That kind of propaganda has a lot of effects I cannot fully lay the blame at their feet for. Its hard to argue they should have first planned out for exactly what kind of job they want when what they are told from grade school to high school is that the important thing is to simply have -a- degree.

I'd argue this systemic failure is deliberate though, the goal of much of the forces pushing it is to get kids into college to be indoctrinated into left-wing ideology.
Amusingly, Engineering majors are the only ones at the university I go to that doesn't require a fake and gay diversity class. Thank Christ.

FUCK OFF, WE'RE FULL.
I will gladly take Chem and Bio majors over H1B's any day of the week......and in fact, I have!

Story time: I was one of the dudes that helped with the launch of the 2010 Healthcare.gov and the absolute shit show that it was before/during/after. After the original company lost the contract (and all the H1B / Visa were not rehired) it was cheaper to hire Chem and Bio majors to do Javascript/UI grunt work then to have a full on CS Major. They worked out pretty well.

didn't that site crash within hours of it being launched?

What the fuck is taking Russia so long?!
Ukrainians are proving oddly resistant to conquest. Like if the USA just emptied our prisons and sent them to go die in the glorious conquest of Canada as the EU shipped them guns and shit just to spite us. And all the Special Forces we sent in before hand died in stupid ways, like dropping Airborne into the freezing waters of the North Atlantic instead of the port city they were supposed to occupy.

Yes, because it turns out H1B's shit in the code just as freely as they do in the street.

And how!

Pretty much at lunch every day for a month (until Cloudflare setup a massive waiting room/helped us out). We would track it on the screen as it hit lunch time in each time zone shit would just start going wonky. Every single part of the design was just a fucking mess. And it didn't have to be that way! It was a 100% of a govie decision to avoid sticker shock of the healthcare prices and it just make everything worse.

But remember, America just doesn't have the tech talent and we need to import all of India in order to fill the jobs that no American can do. My experience aligns with yours. Most H-1Bs I've met would struggle to graduate from high school and couldn't code to save their life. I bet that within six months I could train any motivated American high school graduate to a level higher than 99% of our "skilled" immigrants.

I challenge any pro-immigration person to name one tech company that all of these brilliant programmers who were cruelly denied an American visa created in India. At least the Chinese can brag about Weibo, Tencent, and Alibaba. What can India brag about? Flipkart?
