Good to be back, I hope all of you fellow kiwis spent your time productively as I did.
- Shane Davis made a youtube short about how JDA's new comic fwen Erik Larsen should be locked up for terrorist threats for his tweets he made endorsing Donald Trump's execution a few weeks ago. Very off-message Shane!
- This week's Comicsgate Kings was cancelled so that Frog could "go work on Reignbow the Brute", which must be code for something... but what?
- Perch put out a blind item about an unnamed Marvel writer who, according to a source of Perch's, is struggling with substance abuse issues. Like most of Perch's blind items, the subject of his video was quickly deduced - in this case it was top Marvel writer Donny Cates.
- Adam Post is trying to build his youtube channel back up by making as many videos with the word "woke" in the title as possible.
If this site stays up long enough that Liam GangBang would be a worthy write-up. He's got a demonstrable pattern of behavior and predictable psycho freak outs. Worthy of his thread. The funniest part was when he was cornered on receipts. Of course he can't show them! Psychos would dox his family and he doesnt have time to photoshop them! A rare dub for the otherwise emotionally retarded TSWG. She did really well cornering him and not giving him an ounce of leeway.
A play-by-play of a lumbering Micah and a not much better Malin trying to corral Liam like a greased pig for two hours until it fell upon Anna of all people to do it would take forever. Also worthy of note was Cecil's debut of his new "Porn Bot" bit, a routine so one note and corny that he had to go back to his 2019-era Smuglas and Mike Oxmaul bits for a stream of formulaic anal sex innuendo that only Liam was willing to muster up some fake laughter to.
It was too much even for a guy who does public cringe for a living like Alex Stein.
Frog did a follow-up livestream to the grand Liam confrontation where a number of minor topics were covered:
- Eric July's videos blasting ComicBookResources for blatantly blacklisting all coverage of da Rippaverse I guess reminded Comicsgate that they've have been blacklisted by maintream comics news outlets for the past 5 years. It's been so long that even some of the CBR writers have apparently forgot and had some back and forth with Frog until they remembered that they were ordered to not engage with CG. This didn't really amount to anything but did remind both parties that they do hate each other.
- Frog invited NerdWonder on after a 4 year+ absence to respond to Liam's allegations regarding the revisted Liam Gray cybersex controversy from last week. It was a bit lackluster as NerdWonder found the #romance incident rather routine given her experiences in the autistic indie comics world. Camel Moon (who was also on the stream for some reason) on the other hand may have been the last person in Comicsgate to have heard of the DMs that were leaked nearly two years ago, and vowed to make a bunch of merch cashing in on it.
- The aforementioned Perch video regarding Cates' personal issues was discussed, which was an equal measure of dabbing on Donny Cates and dabbing on Perch's indiscreet disclosure of this deeply personal issue.
- Wes from Thinking Critical put out some allegations that lead X-Men writer Jonathan Hickman's Substack is a scam because it's been a year overdue and no 3 Worlds 3 Moons comic book, One year late is barely even gay babby late by Comicsgate standards and Frog at least had the self-awareness to say "come on man, it's me here".
YOUNGRIPPA59 - A LIVE DISCUSSION WITH A RIPPAVERSE DETRACTOR | MONETIZE YOUR HATERS
In other news, Eric July decided to confront one of the many detractors against his still unreleased comic imprint for the edification of his discerning, intellectual audience. The traditional ritual of adorning the thumbnail with a mspaint depiction of a soyboy on the thumbnail is faithfully obeyed by Young Rippa, a timehonored means paying tribute to the mental and physical wretchedness of his debatical opponent. The identity of the detractor in question is left unnamed and truly is anyone's guess (spoiler: it's fucking Vito Gesuldi).
The first five minutes starts civilly enough, with [unnamed, nasally voiced caller] opening with some mild genialities and light probing over the definition of terms like "parallel economy" and what exactly is July's stated intent with the Rippaverse project. July answers (paraphrasing) "to help build a parallel economy to the established comic market that is not subject to corporate interference". Vito says that what he's saying right now sounds all well and good, but what about all the retarded talk being thrown around by his gassed up fanbase like the Rippaverse being the new Marvel and YoungRippa being the next Stan Lee?
YoungRippa wants to make something perfectly clear: when he's on a livestream sitting there for hours on end nodding along while co-panelists like Jeremy from G+G sperg out about "
how the Rippaverse is going to be standing over the ashes of Lucasfilm and Disney" to the unthinking FNT audience that then repeat the Rippaverse gospel endlessly on social media, that reflects 100% on them and has nothing to do with him, his company or his positions on things. He never said he was offering a superior alternative to Marvel or DC, or is forcing them to take notice. He never said he was going to put any of this big corpos out of business; it was all co-panelists, aligned youtube commentators and contributors to sites like Bounding into Comics who said that.
Officially, Eric July wants to make to clear to the unnamed child molestation sketch comedian, the Rippaverse is merely about "supporting a guy who wants to make comics" as well as the
formally guaranteed official Rippaverse values of
1: Respecting the customer,
2: Ensuring the integrity of the "canon" (semiotical hypotext/hypertext) contained throughout the Rippaverse imprint of comic books
3: Not getting all racist and shit (at least in the comics anyway). Are some people promising more than that on his behalf? Perhaps. On the other hand he's not going slap his own d out of Ryan Kinel's mouth if Ryan's just
giving BJs away; policing people who are actively helping him is simply not in his interest. The point being, making him defend any of the messianic rhetoric surrounding his business venture is tantamount to putting words in his mouth and he will not abide that. Now with that said, July asks, does [unnamed caller] have any problems with what anything he
personally said?
Vito starts trying to unsubtly shill his channel and own comic at this point but July has him muted by the first syllable. After that the guest moves on to his next point of contention; that all the hype he sees about this business venture based around Eric July's identity of being "anti-woke" and a participant in the "culture war", divorced from the merits of the work itself and ultimately no better than when mainstream corporate media sell stories on the merit of being 'woke' and 'diverse''. This actually gets he of Rip to mildly disavow a positive portrayal of his work as "misrepresentative", but cites
the two cosplay girls of an OC of his that he met at Anime Matsuri as proof that there is actual fan enthusiasm about what he's doing and not just political support for a shared agenda; if [unnamed caller] think he's the arbiter of how Rippaverse customers should be enthusiastic about what they're buying, [unnamed caller] can go run his own shit however the fuck he wants, let's see how he does - July doesn't care. Vito says that's great news because he's going to do just that with the upcoming [muted for the next 30 seconds].
Next [unnamed caller] goes on about how he feels all this "culture war" is stoking a dangerous anti-creator, anti-art sentiment. Eric July says he doesn't care and reiterates his being about independent creation. Vito says he's glad to hear that's the case and if that's so, if he'll consider helping out fellow independents in the future. July says he already has, citing guests Graham Nolan, Chuck Dixon, Gabe Eltaeb and Shane Davis. [unnamed caller] clarifies that he meant more smaller creators like himself and his upcoming [ muted ] but he'll send Eric a copy of [ muted ] and looks forward to his opinion as a fellow creator. "Sweet. Sounds good" says YoungRippa.
With that Vito says goodbye and godbless and that he looks forward to fucking with July more on twitter in the future. "That won't happen, but peace out" says the Rippaverse founder and closes the stream with some very sage, very repetitive closing thoughts:
As a creative, and this is my advice to you guys that are out there: don't be that guy. Because he's coming from a complete point of jealousy. It's like, "Hey, I have a problem with people being enthusiastic there. It seems like they're enthusiastic for this reason, as opposed to this reason, which is what they should be." If it was like, you know, go do it. Right? Definitely if you have your own projects - not sure what his project is,. don't really care - but apparently as his own thing, he is far welcome to implement what he thinks makes sense for his... thing. You know what I mean? If it works, it works.
But that ain't got nothing to do with me. But, just as advice to you guys who are fellow creatives: don't do, that's an example of how not to be. You don't see someone's success and then get sour because they are seeing that success. That's not a way to be. I don't care who you are, or who that person is. Like, it's one thing to disagree, let's say, on what it is they do. But, you know, he even uses the term he's "upset" that people will look at this in a certain way. You don't want to be caught up in that shit.
As a creative, fuck that shit, man. Like, get out there. Go be fucking great. And I don't look at other people, especially other independent creatives, I don't look at other independent creators doing their thing, you know what I mean? And be like "Oh man, that's fucking nuts to be me. And I don't like that people are enthusiastic because they're enthusiastic about a reason that's different from what I would be enthusiastic" I don't fucking, that's kind of, its kind of wack. You know, I'm saying that's kind of wack.
But anybody's welcome to give it a shot. There's no one way to do anything. That's the point of the decentralized economy and that there's not one way to do anything. So if you think that you can do something the right way as some would deem, then go do it. Give it a shot and good luck.
