Anime/Manga - Discuss Japanese cartoons and comics here; NO CULTURE WAR DOOMPOSTING!

Currently watching Eureka Seven for the first time and am about eighteen episodes in. So far, I'm really enjoying it. Sorta confused on how the whole wave thing works, but I like the characters, music and general vibe of the show a lot.

I distinctly remember watching the ending like thirteen years ago without any idea of what the show was about. Looking forward to understand the context of it all.

watched dangaioh for the first time and holy shit
I couldn't give it a 5/10 harder if I tried, it is just mediocre.
Dangaioh was really thrown out there as a lower tier product and therefore is not going to age well. Considering that your rating IMHO is correct.
It's a fun OVA. All style, no substance. But, that's how a lot of them were at the time. Cool fights though and I liked that soundtrack. I like it's version of the Laser Blade theme from Gavan.

Yea... you have grab some munchies and just have fun watching the vid.

Yeah. There are definitely better OVAs from that time that have a lot more compelling plots. But, a lot of the stuff from that time was just an excuse for animators to really cut loose without having to deal with the budgetary and time constraints that came from TV animation. Gundam 0080, Iczer-1, Gunbuster and Bubblegum Crisis are definitely better on the writing end of things if you want something that still has that late 80s charm, but have meatier narratives.

You sir got my respect. Not many people would bring up Gunbuster or Iczer 1 these days. Gunbuster had some serious and deep story line for its time.

Yashahime manga art looks so damn nice.

Did the story conclude after the first season or not? I still didn't watch it

I really enjoyed the ending though, so it baffles me that Bones has spent the past 15 or so years actively ruining the ending with every iteration
I should really dig for an interview when I make claims like this but the rumor I heard was the editor forced it to have a happy ending which cause Bones (or whoever still writes it) to seethe endlessly to this day and do everything in his power to undermine it.

idk what I'll watch after Monogatari, especially cause I lost my flash drive with 200gb worth of anime on it

Well since you've been going through an entire franchise, might as well start another franchise.

Tenchi Muyo! is pretty vast (I call it a black hole). That should keep you occupied for a while.
That and I was also planning to watch Lain, Haruhi, Black Lagoon, Railgun etc.

I got quite a bunch on my list lol

Oh God the Magical Index/Scientific Railgun series is up there on my list of "Shit to watch but oh God it's all over the place, gimme broadcast order or I'll die".
Yeah, got through S1 of Railgun and I wanna pick it back up, RIP to that old iOS app that I watched it on :(

Rewatched all of Eureka Seven over the past few days, it still holds up pretty well. I forgot how much of an annoying little shit Renton was but even then I felt bad for the kid because everyone on that ship was treating him like trash. Though it does lead to my favorite part of the show where he meets Ray and Charles and they adopt him as their own before everything goes to shit again.

I really enjoyed the ending though, so it baffles me that Bones has spent the past 15 or so years actively ruining the ending with every iteration. I think at this point the lore is that the real Eureka accidently killed Renton and then somehow created a bunch of fake realities, one of which was the original anime.

Regardless of the trash that E7 has turned into, the OG series still holds up pretty well and that OST is still amazing.

I'm nearly 30 episodes in so far and holy fuck, I felt so fucking bad over how the whole Ray and Charles arc ended. I wasn't expecting to like them as much as I did.

I don’t really like most anime, but I watched Fate/Zero and Unlimited Blade Works a few weeks ago and both were fun to watch. Fate/Zero is better, but UBW has great fights. What I do hate about UBW is what they did to Gilgamesh. What a shitty death for a great character. Shirou is also uninteresting compared to Kiritsugu, who had character. I refuse to believe Gary Stu Shirou could actually kill Gilgamesh without his anime plot armor.

To me it always seemed like Gilgamesh lost cause his major character flaw is being too arrogant to take his opponent seriously until it is too late. Shiro probably couldn't have taken that arm off if Gil had actually been wearing his armor.
