A new one is born every day.
I know this is a joke response, but I think it was true at one point. A big difference between Phil from four or five years ago and Phil today is his lack of new members. Before, Phil somehow managed to attract at least a few new dents every so often. None that ever reached paypig status, but those smaller donations still added up. That's why he was able to reliably pull in a few grand whenever he did a big event/marathon. That's also why it didn't really matter that much when a named paypig managed to see the light and escape the goutsphere. He'd take a bit of a hit, but those smaller donators were still cycling in.
But he stagnated and ultimately chased away those new viewers. Too many long prestreams, constant begging, banning people in chat for the slightest thing, letting his mods run wild, being toxic on Twitter etc. While he was already in a bad spot with new viewership at the end of his Twitch days, making the jump to YouTube definitely didn't help. YouTube streaming just isn't nearly as popular as Twitch, and it seems harder to get discovered. Supporting is also harder on YouTube, and Phil also shot himself in the foot by being dismissive of superchats.
He obviously still has support, but a lot of it seems to be older fans who refuse to let go. And now that there's more legitimate information out there on his scams, it becomes that much harder to hook any new whales. I also think a lot of the sad, desperate types that are drawn towards Phil have more options on who to make their fake friend, so they no longer have to settle when they get bored of his begging spiel or other undesirable traits. Don't get me wrong, those loyal fans are still enough to keep him afloat for a long time, but we've seen before that even some of the most loyal paypigs don't last, even if it takes 5+ years for them to see the light. It's not impossible a new one does eventually step up, but it seems less likely these days. There's a reason we've mostly seen the same repeated names (or socks) cycling through to keep Phil around, but they will eventually leave, and if there's nobody new to replace them, it'll be a big hit.
