I don't get why people act like tech requires super special high end tools.

Sorry, but it's all low torque Chinese screws and whatnot. A single Philips driver will do 95% of the work in a PC. People just like to pretend they're doing much more technical work than they actually are.

The only thing you need to tighten screws in a PC is a $2 Chinese pocketknife. If you use anything more complex you're a soft-handed faggot.

Has anyone already done the math on whether the LTT screwdriver is literally the most expensive screwdriver in the world?
There might be some special insulated screwdrivers for linemen working on 10 billion volts that cost more, but as far as just a plain old "metal stick with a handle" screwdriver, even the luxury brands with ironclad lifetime warranties don't cost that much.

You can actually spend hundreds of dollars on an air-powered screwdriver. I'd pay- a small amount- to see someone assemble a PC with one.

It's the same situation as with the backpack — why? I have no problem with "high end" gear for tech enthusiast, but this is unnecessarily complicated and that drives price up with small market demand among average you tube fan. If he made something cheaper and simpler it would sell like hotcakes. If he made something like IFixit kit or set of screwdrivers like Game Nexus it would make more sense. Less moving parts and problems, more profit... Sure, it would be a lesser product but to be honest most people need screwdriver once every three moths and will be fine with some cheap crap. If necessary you can slap some magnets on the side of the screwdriver if you don't wan to loose screws or bits. No mater how good it is 69.99 is lot of money for somthing you don't use frequently...

On a personal level it's absolutely understandable that if he doesn't like the screwdriver of megapro why would he make a brand deal with them?

I think there's nothing wrong with getting a product produced that you would like to use and sell. But what's getting me is that they did the engineering themselves. Maybe it's the US corp mindset of having everything in house, but normally I'd have thought to contract an engineering company to do the engineering work. I'm pretty sure some screwdriver manufacturers would've been open to make a custom "Linus Tech Tips" exclusive screwdriver.

But as he said, he's an obsessive control freak and wants to have it under his supervision.

Realistically, building a computer only requires a #2 phillips unless you want to install m.2 drives then add on a small precision phillips.

I've built PCs for years with my hitachi powered screwdriver that only cost ~$30 more than this and is infinitly more useful.

But because I got so lucky to work for a company's whose IT department was ran for over 10 years by a penny wise pound foolish person (who left or got canned a few months ago now), that dictated we use laptops well past their useful life, demanded we swap internal parts, and use random amazon vendors to get new laptops (which was rare as he would take forever to approve it), I have ran across laptops that use torx, "tamper proof" screws (no one to get them out with out breaking down) and other weird/uncommon screws.

I can also attest that if cheap chinese screw drivers suck, it made life more annoying and seemed to have more of a chance of stripping the screw head. Paying a bit for for my own tools made things a lot easier.

flat blade driver can defeat most "tamper proof screws" especially torx. hex can be a bit harder to get a good enough purchase but still doable.

Even then there are occasionally $6 ifixit China clone kits on Amazon with some 60% off coupon or so. Have 2 of them so far.

Works perfectly fine for anything PC/3d printer related. Anyone stripping out screws constantly isn't using the driver correctly.

Tbf there are a few different styles of them. I grabbed the most simplistic ones. No ratcheting and a fixed head.

I don't trust cheap chinesium with moving parts, but PC building hardly requires ratcheting anyways.

That black ring bit which the bit itself sits in fell off. I'm able to jam it back on and use the driver but it does eventually just come back off

Yup. Had that same problem with one I grabbed at microcenter on my way out. Was it a hex shaft just pressed into it? I beat mine in with a hammer, but then the locking ring for the extension mechanism never held anyways.

Ones I got off Amazon don't have any of that. Just a simple magnetic that you pop the extension into like a normal driver.

Yep, and the locking ring also gave out so the extension mechanism doesn't work on mine either anymore, its stuck all the way at the bottom (which is a non issue anyways, never needed to extend it)

If "it's Linus' screwdriver" doesn't convince you, then I don't think you're the target demographic for it. Earlier I argued with an LTT fan that bought 2 screwdrivers and 1 backpack. He literally called it the "simpdriver" and agrees that he's a simp, but feels it's inevitable that he'll dole out simpbux somewhere, so as far as he's concerned, it may as well go to Linus and at least he'll get a fancy screwdriver and backpack out of it.
