But then, how can you not say we're a banana republic when our political leaders let each other get away with anything so they can continue to come up with new and cruel ways to fuck the average voter? There's no benefit to pardoning Trump for them, not for their side, certainly, who want blood, and not for anyone wanting a return to normalcy, who will see it as a bizarre benefit the political class gets that they never will. And if they wanted to go in that direction, they would have begun lowering the rhetorical temperature at least in fits and starts as a way to try to salvage Garland's mistake. Instead they've gone for the "extremist" talking point. They'll just never be able to pull off the high road gambit.

I'm starting to think this is the intention behind this framing, if not a deliberate measure in its own right. They know they have a trashfire on their hands, so why not use it to reinforce the bad history this whole post war regime is based on? That tees up the contingency where republicans can swoop in and defeat "Hitler" all over again. No matter the setbacks, they know they will survive as long as people don't question their linchpin.

I'm gonna make a stark contrast here. Please bear with my old boomer ass for a moment. In 1976, the Bicentennial of America, I joined the Navy. I made it out of boot camp in time to be back home, in Philly, for the 4th of July celebration. There was never a prouder moment in my life than standing in full Navy uniform, close enough to touch the Liberty Bell in front of Independence Hall on the 200th anniversary of this Republic (NOT DEMOCRACY) called America. People, complete strangers, hugged me, shook my hand, thanked me for being there. What they saw in me and my uniform represented the best of America and that our values were real and that we would fight to the death to defend the God-given rights our Founding Fathers labored over to provide the best Constitution in the world. 200 fucking years. It was emotional, it was heartfelt by all and Philly truly was the City of Brotherly Love that day as that exact spot is the birthplace of the freedoms that we all enjoy (and are being threatened) today.

Joe Biden, take your sorry ass right back to the basement. How dare you question patriots that made this country what it is today and label US as Facists?

Might want to dig out the uniform again, just in case. I know some of the boomers here are still stuck in the 80s but uh, artillery is bretty gud.

Pretty much. They need a casus belli like a "MAGA Bomber", whether it's naturally occuring and righteous due to the hellish conditions they're placing us in or the Feds just do a terrorism themselves. Once a MAGA terrorist attack happens, they can finally open the gulags up for business and there will never be a right wing allowed to exist in America ever again.

They never liked Trump and they never will. They are massive hypocrites that have completely ripped their masks off to show their true selves they have been projecting onto everyone else for fucking years. Loosing even a little bit of control has made them loose their goddam minds by dialing it up to 11 to make sure they never loose power again.

This IS the democrat party, front and center. Everyone knows their true intentions and they can never go back to how things used to be for them. They will forever be known as that party that destroyed america.

Their hatred for Dubya was kayfabe. They claimed to hate him and said he was an unfit leader, yet voted for everything he wanted to do (PATRIOT Act, etc)

Reminds me of Boris Johnson. The opposition leader Keir Starmer repeatedly calls him an unfit leader, yet voted for every single one of his pandemic restrictions and basically anything he wanted to do that involved suspending civil liberties
