If they think he's going to win in 2024 with a majority in both houses WITH enough MAGA candidates that they won't be able to use RINOs and GOPes to prevent him from doing anything for 4 years, they will not only hammer that button they'll make the housing crack. They have built Trump 2024 up into such an unacceptable cartoonish apocalyptic disaster that I'd fully expect them to start bombing his rallies to stop him if they genuinely thought he'd win.
Wouldn't be the first time the extremists on the left turned to bombs and arson in an attempt to shut their opponents up.

Plus you had the media screaming that Jan 6th was worse then a thousand 9/11's so giving out pardons would send the proggies into a seizure being told two opposing things at the same time from "trusted sources". They wouldn't know who to follow and their NPC brains would short circuit.

Here's the real question. How much of this was a desperate Plan B? Like, they got there, didn't discover documents literally in the shitter waiting to be flushed, looked around, discovered nothing new (every document at MAL was already known about AND he had offered to return them to the archives, repeatedly) and went. "Oh. Oh FUCK." So out come the boxes of documents from Trump's secure storage to toss around like a loon on his desk, off goes John to get more documents and letterheads that look all serious and angry, etc etc. Meanwhile the rest of the team starts desperately combing through EVERYTHING even shit not on the warrant like Melania's fucking underwear drawer because they need to find SOMETHING and shit, shit shit shit there's NOTHING. Fuuuuuck.
And then instead of just burying this, they submit it as evidence as to why it was totally a serious raid and definitely no one needs to look into the affidavit and LOOK, TRUMP BAD, AMIRITE? Because they can't just let it quietly die on the vine, that looks bad for them. They literally can't reverse course even for a minute even if that serves them better in the long run because ORANGE. MAN. BAD.
