Diseased #Comicsgate - The Culture Wars Hit The Funny Books!

Could it be ol' Cecil is bitterly divorced-(ing) and the CashGrab windfall has to be acrimoniously split as part of the alimony battle?
Not split. Protected.

So I watched part of FROGs response video to the autistic Mark Brooks and two lolcows stream where Mark seemed to be very upset about Rippas and FROGs financial success.
And I started to wonder. Does making covers pay all that good? Can you really make a good living out of just drawing covers and nothing else?
Please enlighten me.
It just seems strange since most quality books contain a lot of really high quality interior pages as well. I am thinking Batman HUSH for example. Are covers being paid so much more than interior hero-shot pages that you can live comfortably on just doing covers while people doing interiors constantly complain about the compensation?

Or is my perception skewed because I only read Batman towards the end of my "being comics book customer" and Batman is just higher quality, and better paid/more costly to produce, than other comics?

What I am trying to say is, yes the cover is nice and lot of effort went into it. But the comics I used to buy, and CyberFrog, contains a lot of interior pages that are just as nice and has just as much work put into them.
A cover rate is page and a half of your interior rate. I’m guessing Mark makes $1000-2000 per cover. But the money comes from selling the original art, which you might get up to $10k for.

I don't understand. You stopped reading comics back in 2004?
No, I stopped buying much later, I just used HUSH as well known example of very good interior art.

Autistic rant follows, but I was bored and you asked.

But for stop buying, I think my story could be useful for publishers to understand.
I would say my decline started ~2012 or so, maybe later, when I slowly stopped buying anything other than Batman. But even then I started not feeling any connect to batman anymore. I got less and less emotionally invested and felt that the stories were either boring or way too over the top retarded for my taste (the whole BatmanInc and Daimen+Levitiah arc comes to mind.) I don't know it just did not gel with me. At this point I did not read things chronologically and did not buy read floppies anymore. I was only reading the trades, maybe when they came out or maybe months/years later.
Then Tom Kings wedding arc came out and I just checked out. It was a batman that just I could not recognize or handle and I said, that is it and I have not bought anything since. Much later I did read one trade in the Metal arc at a friends place and did not like it.
If I don't even like batman anymore, why bother with comics so I stopped going to comic book shops to buy trades completely, and I got new hobbies.

That is the danger to publishers. When you lose someone like me, it will be very hard to get me back. I did not stop having a hobby to spend time an money on. I switched to other hobbies. To get me back as a customer it is not enough to just bring the batman from pre-2015 back. You have to do that and you ALSO have to make it so much better that I will drop my current hobbies.

I did not stop buying comics because they became woke. Woke is easy to avoid, just don't buy those comics. I stoppe buying the comics because they started becoming boring and started feeling cheap, just more and more over the top, like if Michael Bey had started writing the scripts. And Tom King. Tom King sucks!

I do still buy FROGs books and merch and other creators on IGG but visiting a comics shop or buying mainstream? Nah. I have other hobbies now.

TL;DR Once you lose a customer it is not enough to just stop doing the things that drove them away if you want bring them back. You also have to show you are better than the hobbies that replaced you.

thats pretty much my story too, although my standards have increased since I‘ve started buying CG and other independent around 3 or 4 years ago. If you don’t care enough to get your books out in a decent amount of time or the quality of the book just plain old sucks, then you’ve lost me as well.

Also, I’d say the decline of mainstream comics started when they tried to incorporate manga elements into the art. I started seeing this around the late 2000’s and it only got worse from there. It went from just someone who wanted to try something that was different in the American market to that’s all the artist knew. With that, the art and the coloring became flatter, not as much attention was paid to detail and an over reliance on doing art digitall.

Me three. Though my last thread, and the last straw, was that retarded Doc Green storyline in Hulk.

Where do they rank in comparison to @PocketJacks (the cuck who is pegging them in court)?

They're all pretty rank. But I'd put Preston lower. Dean and Vikki are a crazy crackhead and crazy old cat lady she would be if she could afford cats not entirely responsible for their actions, they can do no real harm, compared to Peggy who by this point comes over as as a rich kid, lazily wielding his dads money to casually ruin peoples lives. As little as I think of Dean and Vikki and Frog that's just too petty.

Also he gets women with strap-ons to fuck him in the ass. Then he licks it. Dirty, dirty bastard.

Agree.

As insane and ridiculously aloggy as Dean and Vikki have become, I can't bring myself to cheer on Preston. That feels both intellectually dishonest and downright immoral. Much like Ethan Ralph or Vito cheering on Keffals. Or how Dean, Vikki and Roiloup where cheering on Preston's idiotic plans to get @FROG arrested before Preston turned on them. That's alogging.

I still hope they fend Preston off somehow.

Whelp folks it looks like on the new upcoming season of CG: The Shit Show, a group of disingenuous assholes are going to run the narrative that their rival group of disingenuous asshole were the reason Liam tried to self delete. The former group of disingenuous assholes are only doing this because they truly care about Liam, and not to go after someone they mutually hate. Also, Hey Doug(I know you read this thread or have someone read it for you, you are too vain not to) this is kettle, have you met? I know you would never go out of your way to needle and poke someone(our use someone as a proxy to do so) that you should have just left alone. You are way too catholic for that kind of behavior, you know, turn the other cheek and all.

It's weird that Ernst would be going to bat for Liam after how much Liam shit on Kamen America (and made a complete ass out of himself doing so). He was even more virulent about it than FROG (whose opinion, like Null's, is tempered by the fact he really doesn't seem to like anime or manga). I think Liam probably felt Iconic was a threat to his own disastrous efforts to corner the manga segment of alternative comics (and it was, thanks to Liam's epic fuckups).

But again, this is more of the phenomenon I've described where so many unhinged people are like "FROG mad bad! I support the non-FROG man!"

One of these days, somebody is gonna have to sit my ass down and explain to me how FROG became the Anti-Christ of the Internet. What I see is a fat guy from New Jersey who eats pie, occasionally gives ham-fisted takes on the culture war, and makes a comic people genuinely seem to like while being perennially late and gay when it comes time to release anything. Is he a lolcow to some extent? Sure, but like 3/10. What the fuck even is it with these crazy alogs? They're even more lolcowish than EVS now, if you ask me. LOL.

But Doug is just a good guy who doesn't do drama and has on time books.

He certainly wouldn't be teaming with was campaign to make passive-aggressive attacks against ComicsGate, would he?

I don't care that they're taking jabs at CG. Most people do that here, even if you don't. I just think it's funny they're doing it in the most retarded and reality altering ways imaginable.

Hoping Preston puts EVS in jail. Championing Preston refiling his case in New Jersey even as you're also being sued by him for nearly identical reasons. Puppeting the literally autistic Hut to alog EVS. Platforming Mark Brooks to attack EVS while seemingly not knowing anything about comic books. Suggesting FROG nearly killed Liam (I guess?). Pretending there was never a culture war and political infighting at Marvel or D.C..

Fuggetabout it. I think all this shit does it make Ethan look good, and many of his critics nutso.

ALSO: Lawsuit update. Ethan's attorneys filed a surreply to his motion to dismiss the New Jersey round of the Preston lawsuit. We should hopefully have a decision on that soon. No word yet on the Texas case that Dean and Vikki are still in. That part of things is moving really slow.

Is there any other confirmation, other than Vinny's chimp out the other day, that Liam did in fact try and self delete? Im not trying to be a dick, but Liam has been known to make up crazy shit for sympathy and attention. I mean Liam isn't exactly a person you can just blindly believe.

As far as I know, it's just Vinny. That's why I said "I guess."

If Liam is in distress, I fully support him taking a break and getting help. Everybody gets stressed out from time to time. However, I think it's dubious at best to suggest @FROG or anyone in CG put him in such a spot though. Let's be honest here: Liam is his own worse enemy. FROG just said that about Keffals, and he's right.

Honestly, the compassionate thing to suggest here is Liam should get out of the CG sector altogether. I know some people won't like me for saying that, but it's objectively true. It never seems to work very well for him. Mainly because I don't think he can ever stop himself from tarding out. He hasn't grasped that the false importance and Internet tough guy shit ain't getting him anywhere.

I'm pressing X to doubt since I remember several tirades from Liam where he swore he would never, ever, ever hurt himself. He is nuts though so it is possible.

Just a reminder that two years ago I posted to Frog in this very thread that Liam needed help and that he should probably see about that instead of pushing him off the cliff himself for more superchats. Since then however Liam has brought all of this on himself.

🤷‍♂️

Who knows. It's just something Vinny posted, and Vinny is another one of those FROG MAN BAD™ people. I think at this point it was done more as a dig against FROG than anything. Lot of that going around.

Last I heard, Liam was sparring with Micah Curtis on FROG's channel, but if that's a problem... like... uhhh... don't fucking get into IBS with people? I mean, it's a voluntary act the last time I checked. Freedom of and from association, and all that. FROG also seemed very nice towards Liam from what I saw of that stream (tho bringing JDA in was arguably kinda scummy, FROG).

Yeah, I certainly don't want him to off himself, and I generally never do the whole KYS thing (unlike some nutsos I've seen in anti-CG), but his salvation honestly does lie in either fucking off, or calming down a LOT. It's a Liam problem at the end of the day, and anybody that's followed him should be able to grasp that by now.

Or, to quote you, "Comics people are fucking weirdos."
