I've Kickstarted a few things and got burned every single time. The last one I did was Scorn.
It was going to be 2 chapters and they needed to Kickstart the first chapter and I paid $20 for that but now it's going to be a full game and you get the full game $20. I don't think it's a scam, I think it's just a small team with a dream.

Admittedly, my last kickstarter before the System Shock remake was HBS's Battletech. At least HBS delivered.

Shovel Knight and Grim Dawn are the two that come to my mind when I think of quality crowdfunded projects.
Was Obduction crowdfunded? That came out good, too.

Still no word on the release but supposedly someone got access to the full game and posted the final SHODAN fight. Spoilers obviously.

I'm honestly holding out more for System Shock 2. I don't even want them to remaster the voice acting/sounds the game just redo the models and engine cause god damn SS2 is one of the scarcest games I've every played just by sound alone.

I've never kickstarted anything, personally I feel like it's safest that way, you never get burned and 20 dollars isn't going to make a huge difference if something is going to get funded or not.
Sequel remake is even further away isn't it? I'm more excited for one personally because of how old the original is, 2 has some excellent mods and is new enough that it doesn't feel ancient to play.

Was it a remake or just a remaster for more modern computers/control schemes? with a title like "System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition" I was lead to believe it was just a simple upscaling textures and shit

To be honest SS2 doesn't need a full on remake like SS1, SS1 was DOS-Jank and a lot of people just can't comprehend that type of jank

All I've read is that they were going to improve the textures and models a bit, but not much else. Or it was 1 remake + 2 enhanced AND THEN a 2 remake? I forgot.

the remastered version that's already out cleans a lot of that up; you have proper mouse look and stuff now. Also it now runs under Windows natively instead of some shitty DOS emulation

I feel the same way, it doesn't really need one. If the visuals really bother you there are a few decent mods that touch it up. A full remake feels unnecessary, outside of a chance to maybe improve the ending.

IIRC what he devs said about the SS2 remaster, they wanted to focus on the modding scene and multiplayer, but this was like 1-2 years ago when they said that. So take it with a grain of salt
looks extremely fucking gay, in the older game you don't get a monologue, it's straight up boss fight in that place called cyberspace with it's hellish controls, she taunts you while you are trying to make her cyberspace socket connectable with your usb cable *innuendo* *innuendo*.
they could remove that gayness, i'd be much obliged because SHODAN DIDN'T MONOLOGUE ON HER FUCKING FIGHT, SHE JUST GOT TO FIGHT YOU AND THAT'S FUCKING IT, no invincibility frames while she rebuilds herself and shit like that and the outro music when compared to the intro remix sounds gay as fuck.

also also you can get fucking disconnected while fighting shodan while back in the day, if you fucked up and didn't kill her in time you'd get stuck with shodan literally hacking your brains and turning you into her avatar.
and no, it's not fucking nostalgia, i wasn't even born when this game launched, comparing both puts the new gay shit to shame because back in the day people were constricted due to cd/floppy disk sizes and had to do their best on how to cram a ending to make it clear that you fucking won but also tease their new game that they were making, which was that whole tetracorp battle armor thing without being faggots about it unlike the new one, hell, the ending takes a fucking year compared to the few minutes of the old one but still doesn't convey as much and it has some sort of gta4 rockstar music shit playing, i could swear the vice city logo would pop up by the end of the music, i shit you not:
