YABookgate

Tolkien, Howard and Lovecraft didn't make the list? Maybe they only read YA and the stuff schools make you read, or maybe these authors are such strident enemies that they dare not mention them. May have partly worked for Kipling, his entry stops at "racist", probably because nobody in this clique read him and just has the vague impression of "that British imperialist guy" .
You know they wouldn't have a case or a strong case with Tolkein and with Lovecraft, they would have to say slurs (even if they are censored) to prove their point which would have led to being cancelled. Although these retards tend to attract similar retards of the sale low-picking fruit of claiming "someone is x without strong or any proof of being x."

Lovecraft is likely the strongest case, he hated miscegenation and a lot of his stories are about racial degeneration and/or usurpation (Innsmouth & Mountains of Madness coming to mind) . His letters, especially early in life, crank the racism of the time up to 11. Though he was also a cat supremacist so maybe that's why this coven gives him a pass, even if it contains this hilarious passage.

I have no active dislike for dogs, any more than I have for monkeys, human beings, negroes, cows, sheep, or pterodactyls

Howard was essentially an 80's action film in book form crossed with historical fiction & fantasy elements, with all the stereotyping, "dated" (i.e. based) history, and machismo that implies so I'm sure one of these scolds could find plenty of "damning" passages, like the fight between Gulka and the gorilla in Red Shadows where the similarity between the African tribesman and the ape is rather intentional.

Tolkien would be the hardest because his writing is so good that any moral you extract from the story is one you find yourself agreeing with, so that everyone from hippies to reactionaries think he's their guy. They'd be reduced to some reaches like "all the non-white races are either walking stereotypes (Druedain) or corrupted by Sauron, clearly it's reflective of colonial-era ideas of Christendom as the sole light of civilisation against a backdrop of savages and oriental despotisms deluded by Satan", or "LOTR tacitly endorses class hierarchy because all the heroes are either aristocrats or heroic because of how hard they strive to help their betters".

Huh, so I got some Sarah J Mass books on a friend's recommendation last year and I learn here theyre basically all elf porn (and not one series like I thought). Guess I have wine mom fapfic on my bookshelf now.
There needs to be more elf porn out there; hand holding, long contemplative walks through the woods, chaste kisses by starlight, you know the real sick shit.

Shit posting aside heres a really fucking dumb article about historical realism:

It's so short sighted to say 'let's not write about the bad stuff of the past because we're better than that now.' One thing I've really come to appreciate from reading KiwiFarms is how much learning the details of nasty people's lives really cements exactly how bad their degenerate and malicious behavior is, and really motivates a person to stand up against it. If no one ever sees how truly awful misogyny or what-have-you is, then there's a good chance that they won't react strongly when they see the first warning signs of it rearing it's head in society.

Also, I think it's ridiculous to think that reading depictions of misogyny will cause people to emulate that behavior, but simultaneously be okay with the graphic depictions of violence. Are people immune from one bad influence, but not the other? Or is cat-calling some chick worse than murder? Is a glass ceiling worse than torture? (Oh, who am I kidding, we all know the woke answer to that...)

I saw on Tvtropes that whoever was writing that Harley Queen cartoon made a villain get osrtacised by others for callng Wonder Woman "cunt".
There was some Lady Thor comic where she was fighting a husband/wife villain team. The husband made some sexist comment, so Lady Thor knocked him unconscious. Then the villain wife said something along the lines of, 'We women have to stand together against the patriarchy. I'll take my husband and check us both into the local prison, because after what he said, we really deserve it.'

The modern left is so weak. All you have to do is say something mean and stand by what you said and they have no emotional fortitude to move past that. If you don't immediately grovel for forgiveness, they have no personal recourse. Their only means of continuing to survive is to run to the mob and demand mob justice. They have no other tools. They can't ignore, forgive, turn it into a joke, start a dialog, or come up with a biting rejoinder of their own. Their media has taught them that evil will cower at the might of someone who is offended, and that's where the story ends. It's absolutely devastating for any scenario where the opponent decides not to follow their script.

I just have to post the pages. Because it's so cringe.

At least Titana has a nice ass.

I've learned more about the publishing industry and the actual work of a writer by reading this thread than I ever did during my semester studying "Professional Writing and Publishing" at university. If the SS Kiwi does sink with all hands lost, I just wanted to say it's been a pleasure.
I agree, this thread has been wonderful for a hopeful such as myself and I'm always excited to see an update to it. I wish it was more popular though.

Just a question, is there a general book talk thread or is this it? I have some thoughts on the Firemane Saga and how it fizzled after a promising start

Same here, it’s pretty interesting how educational this thread has been.

It goes to show that no amount of corporate shilling will make a preachy book into a bestseller; no matter how diverse it is.

What made Harry Potter, Twilight and The Hunger Games into best sellers was that they all had interesting, fast paced stories that were easy for the average reader to get through.

Yeah I would sooner attend a class taught by @Boston Brand and @Mola Ram than any university professor.

Boston Brand can tell you how to get published, I can teach you how to write unpublishable doorstoppers.

(Although, not to powerlevel, but I'm about to be *actually* published in a publication Brand has mentioned, so I got that going for me.)

Have any of you guys heard of Sami? I know this video should technically be put into Online Bookish Communities but he also talks about traditional publishing, and where they often fail.
I've never heard of him, the couple of videos I've watched of his are pretty good and I hope he gets more subs and views. Thanks for letting me know about him.

Congratulations! Would that be the one he has mentioned POSITIVELY by any chance ;)

And hello survivors who have had to learn how to use TOR just to get back here and talk about books and shit? After the Hugos in Chicago I was hoping for some drama, but it's basically the same old favorites winning the Big Silver Dildo.

So which of the new woke tv shows won hugos? One of the awful star treks or dr who or something else?
