Maybe I deserve some clocks here but this is the first I've heard of this. Has anyone not a troll claimed to see him?

Pretty sure there's nothing in this thread or Byuu's thread that talks about this [Byuu being seen by other developer expats]. Maybe this person is just parroting unsubstantiated rumors?

Not sure why that post was flagged, but to be fair, the HN thread has plenty of people arguing about how what CF did was wrong who aren't being censored.

it was suspected that byuu or somebody purchased the first urn from shakado.jp which is a buddhist temple that sells urns with text put on them. I managed to get one but I was worried about them making the text look the same. a person from the fediverse helped me straighten out the text and I was able to apply it myself with waterslide decal paper and some acrylic sealant. it would have looked better with glossy acrylic but the matte seemed to play nicer with the ink and not make it smear. I would give credit to the guy who gave me the png but kiwifarms.cc is down.

The people in that conversation keep using the word "harassment" but it never seems to come to mind that "harassment" requires actively going after someone, not just talking about them somewhere. I'd heard people talk on and off about "near" for a while, never paid attention. "Byuu" too -- figured like me he was a fan of Bahamut Lagoon. What a great game. Had no idea he was the BSNES guy, and... shit, I've played translations he worked on. Hell, I think I might've emailed him about something over 20 years ago. Damn, didn't realize he was the guy who supposedly killed himself. Shit.

Either way is believable, but has anyone confirmed that the published death lists out of Japan are always 100% accurate? Like has anyone emailed the US embassy there to ask if the David Ginder guy bit the dust? They absolutely would know and I think they'd be willing to confirm it, although I'm not really sure.

Over on hacker news a post can be mass flagged, which appears to be what is happening to anyone who questions the official narrative on what happened to near. The jannies usually don't get involved unless someone is being a massive ass hole.

That’s from two personal friends who are both extremely active in the emulation scene. Feel free to discount it - when the site’s back up, I’ll grab the screens of users in Hector’s streams that use the same exact eccentric writing style Byuu/Near did. (Archive.ph is too stale to have it.)

This is more of a lead than I've seen in this entire thread.

I'm going to go subscribe to Hector's YouTube where he live streams (latest one was five days ago) and suggest you all do the same. Near' s opsec has been impeccable thus far, but this could very well give him away.
