Glad to see you are back. I was hoping that you might come back to do another one your amazing write ups on the recent Dale Keown streaming shit show.
But there have been so many writeups and efaps of the Dale Keown stream already, it's treading worn ground. And in order for kiwis who don't follow comics to fully appreciate it, they'd need to understand who Dale Keown is and why they should give a fuck. Keown was one of the biggest artists of the late 80s and early 90s, most notably working on what's considered the
definitive run on the Hulk along with Peter David. Greater than that though is the impact that Keown and artists like him such as Sam Keith had with their style of
extreme expressiveness and hypermasculinity
taken to the point of grotesque excess (along with many imitators that aped the style but were unable to ape the substance) that set the tone for the entire decade of what came to be known as "90s comics". Frog, Fraga and Shane Davis are just some among the countless admiring artists of their generation that freely admit that Dale Keown influenced their style be when starting out their own careers; one can imagine the excitement that was felt when Dale Keown publicly decided he was Comicsgate last year after lurking enough drunk streams and that he was joining the party. Fans and creators alike were chomping at the bit waiting to see what this legend has in the words once he was done all partying and streaming with Mandy Summers. Perhaps Dale would be returning to his creator owned series
Pitt, or possibly uplifting another Comicsgate franchise to a new level. Whatever form they take, the contributions of a latter-day master would no doubt make great strides towards furthering the artistic and professional credibility of Comicsgate...
08/09/2022 - 44NUMSKULL - RECORD ONLY
A year and a half later, an extremely drunk and exhausted Dale Keown has launched his inaugural live show - but sadly Dale is not here to celebrate. He is here to mourn the raping of his best friend - the Hulk - by the cunts at Marvel. They ruined him. To quote Keown verbatim, 'they inserted their penis into the Hulk's rectum, without any lube', and as the Hulk's biggest fan of all time, this wounds his very spirit. Marvel raped his best friend and he will never forgive them for this. Eventually, out of concern for his channel, Dale relents on his graphic descriptions on the buck breaking of the Incredible Hulk and pivots to another source of angst for the Comicsgate elder - his unconsummated passion for the southern charms of his regular co-streamer
and Gemshock collaborator Mandy Summers. It seems sexual dynamics are never far from the thoughts of Dale Keown, or at least when he's drunk, but that may be an illusory differentiation going by the looks of things. Taking another hit of raspberry vodka from a Mandy Summers official merch shot glass, he asks his chat if it's wrong to love Mandy and take his rightful place as the crown jewel of the
Wart the Wizard creator's reverse art-simp harem? The chat affirms that Mandy is "kinda hot". Dale entertains his audience by performing some tricks with his Adam's apple and refliects on his first wife while trying to figure out how to send Mandy the invite link while hampered by being a drunk boomer, then returns to his drunken thesis on the state of his best friend, The Hulk.
Hulk, as envisioned by one of it's most definitive creators, is an engine of destruction, a force of nature that cannot and should not be befriended by anyone. Having a 'pussy' like Mark Ruffalo portray the Hulk as a sedate bitch in a sweater is a consummate betrayal, no less than a sodomization of something once pure and awesome. Going over this over and over, as drunks do, with no Mandy Summers in sight, visibly starts to wear on Dale's mental resolve. Apparently she tried to tardwrangle him before starting this stream like so much Lydilol but these boiling over emotions over his friend's anal rape could no longer be suppressed. To heal the spiritual wound left in Dale Keown's soul that was left by Marvel Comics raping and emasculating the totem of masculinity that is the Hulk, it requires a balancing act, one of consensual love with a cipher of the feminine principle. And yet, for some reason, Mandy Summers fails to present herself in the livestream for her very important contribution to this ritual of healing Dale's spirit. Dale grits his teeth in frustration as he tells Mandy how much he loves her over and over. "God help me. Help me...".
Having failed to reach Dale Keown through private channels during the entire stream, this last outburst forced Mandy Summers to try and tardwrangle her collaborator publicly out of desperation. Dale half laughs, half weeps as he says her name and confesses his love and over and over for a solid 5 minutes, followed by a failed attempt to pull his dick out on camera but foiled due to a drunken inability to operate his clothes.
It's at this point that Mandy and other concerned peers with Keown's phone number begin flooding his phone with ignored calls. Dale begins a protracted and emotional battle to maintain conciousness for the next 8 minute, which he loses and then spends the next five hours livestreaming his unconscious body set to the backdrop of his "Dale & Mandy" backdrop and stream sniped by Frog for Aaron Lopresti's
Wraith of God campaign launch before being woken up by his girlfriend
, who was contacted by his art dealer to go stop the livestream by any means possible. A still discombulated Keown then accidently knocked over his livestream piss bottle and then went on to join the Wraith of God campaign launch stream when he heard Mandy was on there.
Reactions to the Hulk maestro's (see what I did there?) drunken, incoherent, profane, sexual, borderline psychotic first livestream was split between two reactions. Thanks to
the tireless efforts of VikkiVerse who was uploading clips as it was happening, knowledge of the livestream was rapidly spread across the greater comic book industry. Rich Johnston
already had an article up on Bleeding Cool before Keown even had to the chance to wake from his drunken stupor. A man of Dale's stature being brought low, as opposed to even the most renowned "Comicsgate Kings", getting up to these antics is genuinely newsworthy. Most reactions were from people who had no idea he had been appearing with CG in the first place.
Fellow Canadian,
Pitt collaborator and a one-time relevant anti-CG ringleader Richard Pace's
commentary [
archive] turned out to be particularly inflammatory but also emblematic:
Frog, as the face of Comicsgate to the outside world, was especially lambasted for playing the role of enabler and exploiter to a troubled and sick man man clearly suffering from substance abuse issues. Frog's response (paraphrasing) is that Dale Keown is a 60 year old man and he's going to do whatever he want; the idea that he has the moral duty or even ability to police others' behavior on the internet just because they appear on an internet livestream together is patently ridiculous. Also Dale is a "rockstar" and normal social mores simply do not apply to a larger than life figure such as he. I don't know what part of simping is considered the domain of rockstars, but whatever.
Comicsgate fans, perhaps predictably, took up the other extreme that all this was an unqualified dub for Dale and for Comicsgate as a whole. For one, Dale got over a 1000 subscribers for his channel on his first livestream, and his audience found the content enjoyable. Michael Bancroft had an
hour long livestream with Aaron Lopresti to pose the probing question that people reacting to this were pearlclutching church ladies who "hated fun", while Billy Tucci and Shane Davis released videos complaining that sites Bleeding Cool covers Comicsgate creators when it makes them look bad but not when they're doing good, and that these comic book journalists might be *gasp* biased.
