These days Comicsgate has (either intentionally or unintentionally) adopted the stance and arguments of the underground comix scene from the late 60s/early 70s. Listening to the latest launch streams for Lopresti's Wraith of God 2 or Irene Strychalski's Fiendish 2 and how they are able to full realize their creative vision with these time-intensive works, it's all very reminiscent of the sort of things Pekar and Crumb fans would say.

The contention goes that true art is not achievable by the establishment mainstream because the drive for profits by the corporate owners creates censored work (60s underground comics) / rushed work (Comicsgate) and that therefore only those blacklisted/excluded from the establishment are capable of creating true art vs "corporate art".

On one hand, I'm of the strong opinion that if Comicsgate is going to have any staying power, it must at some point be able to deliver comics that are actually worth supporters' money. On the other, it's difficult to see how Comicsgate can be distinguished from other indie comics at all if it's ceded competing with or contesting the mainstream establishment.

Originally, backing crowdfunded creators by Comicsgate was the last line of resort after criticism and boycotting Marvel and DC failed, a contest between audience and publishers over having a say in popular/mass culture. Now after years of massaging in concepts like ESG, the argument put forward that consumers should back CG comics because they are better than the mainstream and that the idea of reforming a corporate IP or "contesting culture" instead of supporting alternatives is a waste of time. In other words, the means to affect desired change have become accepted as the ends in of themselves.

With Frog raising $213,480 in the span of three days last week across three campaigns on behalf of Andy Smith, Aaron Lopresti and Irene Strychalski (and Shane Davis already laying the preparations to launch Inglorious Rex 2 in October) Comicsgate remains brisk business for those that can deliver. At least for the Comicsgate Kings anyway.

Mitch Breitweiser by contrast is doing... considerably less well.
Glad to see you are back. I was hoping that you might come back to do another one your amazing write ups on the recent Dale Keown streaming shit show.

Liam is back! He did a 5 min short livestream about frogs. Not @FROG, actual frogs. He has a male and female frog that he is worried about. He states "This is not some big return stream, I am just looking for advise". The female is either sick or is shedding its skin because it has some white on it. Liam does some "batmaning" to investigate and finds a white substance on the branch he keeps the frogs on that looks similar too the white substance on the female frog. He tells "Wife", who responds with "yes husband", about the white substance and ask what kind of tree the branch is from. She tells him its from a frangipani. "Wife" tells Liam its the sap from the tree, then Liam ask if it is toxic and "Wife" says she is not sure. It pretty much ends around there.

I find it odd that Liam is coming back to ask his comic book youtube audience for advise on the health of his frogs. I find it even more odd that he comes out with this, when EVS recently got he own pet frog. Finally, I find it even even more odd that he is doing all this after coming back from allegedly trying to self delete. Throw in the weird "Wife" and "husband" shit and it really seems like some shitty dinner theater. It being Liam, there is no telling what he trying to accomplish. I highly doubt it was only for advise and that he is not trying to come back. Liam never learns his lesson, and it would be highly optimistic to think that he has learned it now.

If ComicsGate was centered on being a viable alternative to mainstream brands, then I agree, there has not been significant growth to back such a claim.
Right now, I'm not even sure what ComicsGate is supposed to be except something @PocketJacks wants to take away from @FROG.
I don't think there's really much to get when it comes to CG. It was a hashtag started by the crazy ADHD guy disillusioned with the way comics were changing (modeled after Gamergate before it). Eventually he passed the baton to a ex D.C. artist from New Jersey. Ostensibly, under Simple Zack's leadership, it intended to fight back against the SJW infiltration of mainstream comics, and to offer an alternative to the same.

However, since (as you note) it can never really hope compete on that level, all it really is now is a marketing ploy for @FROG and like-minded individuals to shill their comic products. It's become, as @Mister Dongs suggests, a loosely established and managed "independent comics" label. Said comic products are of varying quality and frequently late, but they still seem to pull in a reasonably good amount of money despite the obvious incompetence when it comes to getting the product into the customer's hands. Some people will argue CG is engaged in fair (albeit poorly run) commerce, while others will dismiss CG as a grift. Historically, I've always felt this thread leaned more towards the later view, but not unreasonably so. Even people in this thread give FROG his due when he earns it.

Whatever you see CG as, what gets me is the people that are fervently opposed to CG to the point they dedicate a disturbing amount of their online and IRL activity to trying to take it down. As if its very existence were a personal slight. As if people can't spend their money on whatever they want (even things others might consider stupid). I've never understood why anybody would get MATI over CG.

CG is good for a laugh now and again because of some of the zany personalities that are part of it but, if you ask me, the real milk has come from some of its batshit insane opponents. And it's been that way for about a year now. Those are the people that don't make any goddamned sense to me. Many of the detractors are just sad, humorless, and full of spite. As such, they're even more fun to laugh at.

I think FROG and CG have persevered throughout all this thanks to three groups of people:

1. The "true believers." Misguided people who actually believe that backing CG books helps push back against SJWs. Marvel and D.C. are failing due to their own incompetence and lack of sales. Not due to anything CG is doing. If you like the books, buy the books. If you don't, don't. You're not changing the world by giving CG your money.

2. Really REALLY retarded detractors that serve as the perfect foil for FROG's anti-SJW message, and actually drive more people into the first group.

Seriously, FROG has some of the DUMBEST enemies of anybody I have ever seen. Bar none. This latest shit (pushed by Mark Brooks) where we're all supposed to believe there wasn't an SJW takeover of comics is beyond stupid His loudest critics include such "luminaries" such as a homeless woman disowned by her own family, a literal crack addict who does whatever the homeless woman tells him to do, a litigious trust-fund baby who got pegged in the ass, a probable pedophile, a "stupid girl" with the voice of a harpy, delusional creepy brothers who finish each other's sentences... et cetera, et cetera. I'll leave it to the reader to figure out who is who. It's not hard.

I don't know if I'm the outlier here, but I truly believe Anti-CG has become the bigger congregation of lolcows at this point. There's only so many times you can tell JDA he's acting like an idiot before it gets old.

3. Some people who might actually like the books. It's only fair to acknowledge this group exists to some degree.

In Cecil news, he's getting divorced and his ex wants his Cash Grab money
For reals?!?!

LOL.

"Guys, I was like five minutes away from sending it to the printer, but my bitch wife is now divorcing me and she's gonna take the money for that!"

You can't make this up. At least, I hope you're not.

Don't forget @FROG's most recent dumbass enemy the philosopher Scott Cutrz who said "CG has no place in comics. Comics are for everyone." Then doubles down and says CG should be gatekept and the comics are for everyone thing.
Like I have said before:
"May the gods continue to send me dumb enemies"
-Frog (probably)

It's September. Has Rippa delivered his fucking comics??
There's about ten days left in his campaign, so I think they come later this month. But I don't know; I didn't preorder anything. If I learned anything from video games, it's not to pre-order.

All the salt against him on Twitter is kinda funny, though. A lot of goalpost-shifting before we even know if his comic is worth a shit.

We have not been forgotten. Cecil, in his own way, would like to assure us all that our work is important and so he makes this good faith offering of a surprise face reveal tonight on JACK Show. Will update with direct YouTube link if Anna keeps it up.

I should be crying but I just can't let it show.

EDIT: If you can't play the video or it stalls, you can save it locally by either right-clicking on the video or the direct link. If it fails, retry.

EDIT: The YouTube link. Ruining a bit you've been working for years because you can't stop being shitfaced drunk on stream:

This is precisely what I'm talking about with respect to FROG's dumbass enemies. They need only open their mouths, and FROG pretty much automatically takes the W. I asked here last month whether FROG had ever had to face a serious debate that actually challenged him, and the answer appears to be no. And I asked that question in a thread that's not always been kind to FROG.

And people wonder why, despite all the late books, CG survives. I think CG, or something like CG, will persist as long as there is a perception conservative and non-shitlib comics creators have to go independent.

Said perception really shouldn't be that controversial, and affects more than just CG. You think Iconic's Tim Lim and Doug Ernst, both critics of CG, could get jobs at D.C. or Marvel? And yet, here we are. Idiots like Nerdette and Mark Books are legitimately trying to argue that the circumstances leading up to the creation of CG is somehow fake news.

Good luck with that. Frankly, I think some of the critics have gotten more and more unhinged as they realize that FROG still pulls in money despite all the alogging.

Cecil, in his own way, would like to assure us all that our work is important and so he makes this good faith offering of a surprise face reveal tonight on JACK Show.
He's late. Just like Cash Grab. We already had a picture of his face from Anime Matsuri. He basically looks like you'd expect.

Frog revealing the divorce saga will lead directly to Cecil's doxing. Those records won't be hard to find with the right 'tism.
Probably. You would just need the county it was filed in, and one of the party's names. Or, if you're feeling super autistic, just comb through every recent divorce filing in that county.

I don't care enough to look, but I imagine he might not care either. I sorta figured, in his case, the mask thing was more of a shtick than an honest attempt to conceal his identity. Indeed, most people in CG don't seem to give a shit about people knowing who they are.

I'm just chuckling that after two years of dragging his feet on releasing Cash Grab, his soon-to-be ex-wife might walk away with some or all of the money.

I'm probably going to hell for being on this evil website anyways. I DGAF. 😂

Indeed and yeah, his appearance is unremarkable and unsurprising leaving it as nothing more than a bit to milk for JACK Show or some other stream - a framing device to build a stream around. Except, it's now a spoiled bit that ended abruptly on the wrong side of an 8-hour JACK Show stream on Anna's channel with him throwing up his hands with a "welp, guess that's my face reveal." How much of this actually matters to anyone watching at this point is highly questionable, but it deprived him of a bit, something he very well may have intended to take elsewhere (Mayr, G+G, FNT, etc). As we've all come to discover, Cecil is not the most creatively prolific person. He much prefers spinning plates and last night he smashed one.

Considering he managed to time it immediately after the vastly more entertaining segment where Anna was attacked by a praying mantis and she jiggled silicone all over the lawnmower shed she broadcasts from, I'd say the whole thing amounts to an anti-climactic L for Cecil.

Okay, so I'm a bit confused here.

Has Cecil been going through these divorce proceedings for the past two years, or is this more recent than that?

Because I would have two entirely different viewpoints depending on the answer to that question.

If this has been going on since the campaign closed, he probably should have just told people that he couldn't fulfill the book due to that, instead of having people think he's incompetent, lazy, or ran off with the money. Divorces happen. Asset shielding from spouses isn't uncommon given how controversial and unequitable asset division can be in divorce cases. It would explain a great deal about the Cash Grab saga.

However, if this is a relatively new thing, it still wouldn't explain why he couldn't have released the book ages ago.

I think he realized the mask is unworkable for his future career in internet and convention grifting.

Glad to see you are back. I was hoping that you might come back to do another one your amazing write ups on the recent Dale Keown streaming shit show.

But there have been so many writeups and efaps of the Dale Keown stream already, it's treading worn ground. And in order for kiwis who don't follow comics to fully appreciate it, they'd need to understand who Dale Keown is and why they should give a fuck. Keown was one of the biggest artists of the late 80s and early 90s, most notably working on what's considered the definitive run on the Hulk along with Peter David. Greater than that though is the impact that Keown and artists like him such as Sam Keith had with their style of extreme expressiveness and hypermasculinity taken to the point of grotesque excess (along with many imitators that aped the style but were unable to ape the substance) that set the tone for the entire decade of what came to be known as "90s comics". Frog, Fraga and Shane Davis are just some among the countless admiring artists of their generation that freely admit that Dale Keown influenced their style be when starting out their own careers; one can imagine the excitement that was felt when Dale Keown publicly decided he was Comicsgate last year after lurking enough drunk streams and that he was joining the party. Fans and creators alike were chomping at the bit waiting to see what this legend has in the words once he was done all partying and streaming with Mandy Summers. Perhaps Dale would be returning to his creator owned series Pitt, or possibly uplifting another Comicsgate franchise to a new level. Whatever form they take, the contributions of a latter-day master would no doubt make great strides towards furthering the artistic and professional credibility of Comicsgate...

08/09/2022 - 44NUMSKULL - RECORD ONLY

A year and a half later, an extremely drunk and exhausted Dale Keown has launched his inaugural live show - but sadly Dale is not here to celebrate. He is here to mourn the raping of his best friend - the Hulk - by the cunts at Marvel. They ruined him. To quote Keown verbatim, 'they inserted their penis into the Hulk's rectum, without any lube', and as the Hulk's biggest fan of all time, this wounds his very spirit. Marvel raped his best friend and he will never forgive them for this. Eventually, out of concern for his channel, Dale relents on his graphic descriptions on the buck breaking of the Incredible Hulk and pivots to another source of angst for the Comicsgate elder - his unconsummated passion for the southern charms of his regular co-streamer and Gemshock collaborator Mandy Summers. It seems sexual dynamics are never far from the thoughts of Dale Keown, or at least when he's drunk, but that may be an illusory differentiation going by the looks of things. Taking another hit of raspberry vodka from a Mandy Summers official merch shot glass, he asks his chat if it's wrong to love Mandy and take his rightful place as the crown jewel of the Wart the Wizard creator's reverse art-simp harem? The chat affirms that Mandy is "kinda hot". Dale entertains his audience by performing some tricks with his Adam's apple and refliects on his first wife while trying to figure out how to send Mandy the invite link while hampered by being a drunk boomer, then returns to his drunken thesis on the state of his best friend, The Hulk.

1663358195281.png

Hulk, as envisioned by one of it's most definitive creators, is an engine of destruction, a force of nature that cannot and should not be befriended by anyone. Having a 'pussy' like Mark Ruffalo portray the Hulk as a sedate bitch in a sweater is a consummate betrayal, no less than a sodomization of something once pure and awesome. Going over this over and over, as drunks do, with no Mandy Summers in sight, visibly starts to wear on Dale's mental resolve. Apparently she tried to tardwrangle him before starting this stream like so much Lydilol but these boiling over emotions over his friend's anal rape could no longer be suppressed. To heal the spiritual wound left in Dale Keown's soul that was left by Marvel Comics raping and emasculating the totem of masculinity that is the Hulk, it requires a balancing act, one of consensual love with a cipher of the feminine principle. And yet, for some reason, Mandy Summers fails to present herself in the livestream for her very important contribution to this ritual of healing Dale's spirit. Dale grits his teeth in frustration as he tells Mandy how much he loves her over and over. "God help me. Help me...".

1663358048392.png

Having failed to reach Dale Keown through private channels during the entire stream, this last outburst forced Mandy Summers to try and tardwrangle her collaborator publicly out of desperation. Dale half laughs, half weeps as he says her name and confesses his love and over and over for a solid 5 minutes, followed by a failed attempt to pull his dick out on camera but foiled due to a drunken inability to operate his clothes.

1663363610900.png

It's at this point that Mandy and other concerned peers with Keown's phone number begin flooding his phone with ignored calls. Dale begins a protracted and emotional battle to maintain conciousness for the next 8 minute, which he loses and then spends the next five hours livestreaming his unconscious body set to the backdrop of his "Dale & Mandy" backdrop and stream sniped by Frog for Aaron Lopresti's Wraith of God campaign launch before being woken up by his girlfriend, who was contacted by his art dealer to go stop the livestream by any means possible. A still discombulated Keown then accidently knocked over his livestream piss bottle and then went on to join the Wraith of God campaign launch stream when he heard Mandy was on there.

1663364279100.png

Reactions to the Hulk maestro's (see what I did there?) drunken, incoherent, profane, sexual, borderline psychotic first livestream was split between two reactions. Thanks to the tireless efforts of VikkiVerse who was uploading clips as it was happening, knowledge of the livestream was rapidly spread across the greater comic book industry. Rich Johnston already had an article up on Bleeding Cool before Keown even had to the chance to wake from his drunken stupor. A man of Dale's stature being brought low, as opposed to even the most renowned "Comicsgate Kings", getting up to these antics is genuinely newsworthy. Most reactions were from people who had no idea he had been appearing with CG in the first place.

Fellow Canadian, Pitt collaborator and a one-time relevant anti-CG ringleader Richard Pace's commentary [archive] turned out to be particularly inflammatory but also emblematic:

1663364808600.png

Frog, as the face of Comicsgate to the outside world, was especially lambasted for playing the role of enabler and exploiter to a troubled and sick man man clearly suffering from substance abuse issues. Frog's response (paraphrasing) is that Dale Keown is a 60 year old man and he's going to do whatever he want; the idea that he has the moral duty or even ability to police others' behavior on the internet just because they appear on an internet livestream together is patently ridiculous. Also Dale is a "rockstar" and normal social mores simply do not apply to a larger than life figure such as he. I don't know what part of simping is considered the domain of rockstars, but whatever.

Comicsgate fans, perhaps predictably, took up the other extreme that all this was an unqualified dub for Dale and for Comicsgate as a whole. For one, Dale got over a 1000 subscribers for his channel on his first livestream, and his audience found the content enjoyable. Michael Bancroft had an hour long livestream with Aaron Lopresti to pose the probing question that people reacting to this were pearlclutching church ladies who "hated fun", while Billy Tucci and Shane Davis released videos complaining that sites Bleeding Cool covers Comicsgate creators when it makes them look bad but not when they're doing good, and that these comic book journalists might be *gasp* biased.

@Mister Dongs

Believe it or not, this is actually the second time I've witnessed a CG personality/orbiter get black out drunk during a livestream. Back in early 2019, an extremely drunk Yellowflash went on a tear about how (Mignogna lawsuit defendant) Jaime Marchi is "hot," starting yelling at people because one of his friends just died, and got so belligerent that TUG actually kicked him off his show. Whereabout Yellowflash promptly started up a stream on his own channel, but passed out in a manner of minutes. Most of his stream consisted of audio of him snoring loudly.

This is WAY funnier though.

What would be hilarious is if Mandy were so smitten by this, she ends up hooking up with Dale. Alas, that's probably a little too "fairy taleish" of an ending for our poor Mr. Keown. If I were Mandy, I'd actually be freaked out. LOL.

Also, Dale, if you're reading this: She ain't worth it, bro. Just... don't.

Is this typical behavior for boomers? Get drunk and rant about how sexually attracted they are too green monsters and younger women?

Hat tip Mister Dongs site wouldn't be the same without you my friend. :semperfidelis:

@Mister Dongs

I actually didnt watch any of those because I knew there was no way in hell that any of those idiots(CG, MM, anti-cg) could do it the justice you could, and this was mmm chef's kiss and totally worth the wait. No one does a write-up like you can and we all thank you for them. I may have found a way to keep getting these write-ups if the farms goes down again.

Alright, so @Captain Manning was right about my attempt start a refuge thread over on the Grifts and Gamers forum. It was really gay over there. One user even said the thread was "problematic". I then decide to try and make my own kind of forum for if KF goes down again. I will say, I am no web designer and I also didnt want to pay any money for it. Im not sure how much it can handle or how much storage the free version has. Also, im not sure how censor happy they are either, but I think it would be worth a shot if KF goes down again. If yall want to check it out and even go ahead and bookmark it for when the troons attack again(it will happen) here is the Link. If anything, I know Dongs could do his write-ups over there and not have to wade through the gayness of poast, twitter, or Grifts and Gamers forum.

Dead Air Dale is one of those very likeable alcoholics, but still one that needs to climb out of that hole before they try to build something solid. Unfortunately, he got roped in by the Goocheese and the Captain Content of CG who will not hesitate to exploit their substance-abusing allies for their own purposes. Glad you sniped it, Sciverfrog! Obviously, it was only out of concern for his well being! To be fair to Ethan, he was the same exact way with drunk Cecil, and now Cecil is helping Sciverfrog to bring a veritable barge of value and meaning to the All Crap Brand. A million Cecils couldn't supply the same amount of talent that Dale has in his right pinky finger, so imagine if you will the potential for a drunken lewd act to replace ye ole pisstream of yore.

It's too bad he couldn't keep going about what they did to our boy Hulk, that's the kind of content the whole world needs to hear! The rest is only going to help people associate CG with ghetto trash streaming. If only it was nearly as exciting as that sounds. Maybe it will take his girlfriend confronting him about his somewhat more than subconscious regard for Mandy. Still, I really don't like seeing that much talent wasted

Greetings, farmers! All is going great over here. About to deliver OVERMIND which is just a couple of pre-orders away from hitting $40,000. Comicsgate is better than ever before! Hail!
