First six seconds is Jim singing that he has a Patreon as a nursey rhythm and promising to suck your dick if you donate to it. I already regret this and someone owe me for this. Anyway, this appears to be a pre-title drop gag. Hope it's not a running one. Wait, it's Jim. I hope it's not a slow waddling gag.
Born Different is still a good song and introducing me to it is [the] one really positive thing Jim has done. Same for "Stress" by Jim's Big Ego.
Jim had an actual laugh when he threw a piece of woman's cosplay away and knocked something over. The edit of a cat sound effect wasn't great, but this is the most genuine laugh I've heard from this man in years. Was almost nice.
"The Fanbase is fucking exhausting" is the main theme of this video. To be fair, I bet we can all think of times a fanbase did something stupid to something we didn't see as a big deal, so let's hear Jimbo out on this one.
Jim predicts GTA 6 discourse will be worse than the Last Of Us Part II. Bold claim from a man who refused to cover actual controversies around that game, such as the DMCA take-down notifications (Jim seemed to not care that people stating views he didn't like were being abused by corporations. Telling), Neil Drunkmann making a buff women for progressive reasons with there being plenty of reason to suspect that Abby was actually a fetish design for him, the fact the game actively tried to rewrtie history of the previous game because the last game left it up to the player to decide how good or bad Joel was as a person but a story about revenge has to play both angles, so on and so forth. I have a sneaking suspicion that Jim's about to complain about people not liking there being a female protagonist while ignoring the various reasons people have that skepticism in the first place... again.
Jimbo's editor state's during Jim's recap (where he rightfully states this is one of the biggest leaks in gaming history... period) that they won't be using leaked footage for copyright reasons. Absolutely fair, I probably wouldn't either. They use stock footage of some Steam Indie trash from the glory days instead. I'm almost able to convince myself this is going to be good.
Almost
And 10 seconds later, Jim makes a reference to spilling water on his chest to get the attention of men at a bar, complete with that twitter photo we posted here. Man, his "tits" look like he has one of those wholes from lung cancer people get in their necks/chests. Also, what's the value in a poly relationship if you still have to go to the bar? What's the value of being a true and dishonest woman if you have to use tricks to get men to initiate conversation with you? Starting to think the "poly" thing is to justify JIm bouncing between partners, and the "Trans" angle is so Jim no longer feels bad about his inability to start a conversation/relationship (I'm the woman now! It's their job to talk to me!).
Sorry, got off topic again. Back to Jimbo.
During a bit where he repeats the severity of the situation, he sighs about when he used to be relevant to gaming. Maybe it's because you actually did you job back then. Just saying.
Jim makes a solid point about people online being too stupid to understand the difference between a work in development and a finished product. That said, given Jim loves to shit on AAA games, he missed a PERFECT chance here to comment on how games releasing unfinished, broken, or otherwise ugly is so common place that people didn't immediately jump to "this is early footage"
A lot of the rest of this is Jim going on and on about how stupid people are being, although he claims Alien Isolation is the best looking game ever made. Interesting choice there. I think that's his Alien Fanboy (and/or Randy Pitchford hate boner) showing again.
He mentions we live in a time were some people enjoy hating games more than playing them. This is true, Moviebob alone shows that one's rage is addictive. However, he again goes over the Last Of Us Part II. He finds it dumb people were hating on it before it came out, not referencing the fact that the game killed off what many people had as one of their favorite characters (turned out to be true), turned Ellie into a much less complex character (turned out to be true), and had a plot too simple for it's run time (turned out to be true).
But Jim's full transformation into a professional games critic was with the phrase "so-called fans" in regards to the Last Of Us Part II. The idea so many people could be a fan of something, dislike the direction it goes in, voice their displeasure, and then be upset they're called Nazi Klansmen Facists over not loving what was being shown is just unbelievable to him. We need a term for this. Fandom Derangement Syndrome. Can this be a tag in the future?
Anyway, Jim mocks the idea of people not liking SJWs (a term few "Anti-SJWs" still use) and Culture war (kinda fair, kinda ignorant. But this post is too long as it is), but then goes into a fair point about players caring too much about graphics and publishers outright lying about it.
There we go, the female protagonist talk. I'll spare you the Jim Sterling Cherry Picking (he legit thinks being called "woke" is mocking people for having empathy. The fact he says this while being angry and apathetic towards these people because they don't deserve empathy in his eyes is of course lost on him). He claims that Alphabet Soupers like himself are face with governmental oppression because he's never lived at a point were what he's wanted in life was actually illegal. I can't go on this because I'll become too heated about this and it's already deviating away from games to get people to care about what Jim REALLY wants them to be talking about/supporting, so let's just say Jim is not smart enough, tactful enough, or experienced enough to provide commentary on these subjects to anyone beyond those who would already agree with him, making his commentary overall useless.
His final brag is about saying "Bridgette is trans, we got her losers, she ours now and we're not giving her back."
Gest or not, this shows the sad state of the Jimqusition and really just the state of online commentary. Rather than try to change minds, cynicism and ego combine to make commentary that only serves to reaffirm the commentators belief, and is generally useless to anyone who disagrees with them from the outset because understanding and refuting the opposition was never the goal to begin with.
