All right, I was going to cite some shit here, but when we have this kind of stupid, I really can't let it slide. For the sake of argument, I'm going to ignore that Olson is an absolute fucking mental-case who, apropos of nothing, has repeatedly accused Gamergate of being terrorists. Instead, I'm going to focus more on the fact that Olson doesn't know how user-generated content works.

Olson was repeatedly attacking 8chan because it allegedly had CP. Again, ignoring that inconvenient fact that that all evidence suggests that the /hebe/ board Olson got the alleged CP from was planted there by long-time ally and despicable excuse for a human being Laureial Bailey. We're going to ignore all of this because I don't even need it to punch a hole a mile wide in this canard.

His argument is: "8chan can have CP, so this is all it is."
This is, literally, with no embellishment, the crux of his entire argument.

And it's utter bullshit.

Content like this can be uploaded. Under normal circumstances, it is deleted within minutes if not seconds of being reported when it's actually uploaded. Thusly, if you want to use the argument that the fact that it can host CP for those short periods, then you've just condemned every other fucking site that hosts user-generated content on the internet, including Tumblr, Imgur, Facebook, and indeed, Reddit - because each and every fucking one of those has a fuckton of people trying to skirt the law and upload underage porn and nudity. In fact, let me prove this with a link. Or two. Or three. I can keep going, if you'd like, but the point of fact is that every single site that has user-generated content has Pedophiles trying to use the system to get CP.

There's no image filter in existence that goes: "HOLY SHIT, CP DETECTED, YOU CAN'T UPLOAD THIS."

And no site, no matter how draconian its security, can keep this content out all of the time, especially if that site, as many do (Twitter, Imgur, and 8chan for example) rely on user reporting to bring it to the attention of mods. With this in mind, given Tumblr and Reddit alone have many times the amount of Pedophile-related content as 8chan does in the most depraved of Sarah Nyberg wet dreams, the argument that 8chan is "entirely about CP," based on this, is like saying Twitter, Reddit, Tumblr, Imgur, et al are "all about CP." It's the same goddamned argument because all of those sites provably have had pedophiles constantly trying to upload underage porn to them.

That argument is as Autistic as Chris, and anyone who makes it doesn't know how to fucking internet.

Rapp's an asshole who defended a guy who got caught trafficking child porn.

This is less a Gamergate issue and more her following the career path of Chris Pranger before her (who proceeded to, likewise, accidentally his career by being a prick).

The people bringing the fact that she's been a pedo apologist to Nintendo aren't GGers, they include the likes of some nonprofit thats goal is fighting child trafficking and seems to consist mostly people who want to see her chimp the fuck out and face some irony for a change (Tumblr's pushed to have people fired or prosecuted for much smaller offenses). In fact, most mainstream GG supporters have condemned the action, as has KIA.

Mind you: even if GG was responsible for this (SPOILER: they aren't, unless you consider the likes of ED to be Gamergate), it's not like Gamergate stands to lose anything from this. Gamergate's already been accused of being everything from misogynists to terrorists and back again with nary a scrap of evidence to be found. To hear the opposition tell it, Gamergate killed Brianna Wu's dog, is responsible for every single death threat and rape threat recieved by every woman ever, is worse than ISIS and Ebola, and is representative of how strongly the patriarchy has a hold on things, yet it's only 100 people with sockpuppet accounts.

GG could literally throw all support behind the attack on Rapp (they haven't and more importantly won't) and there would be no real consequences because of how batfuck the Anti-GGers have already been with accusations of shit like terrorism, especially given that Pedo Apologism is what she's been charged by via a nonprofit org.


In other news, Twitter's economic damage is far worse than expected. New numbers show that they've lost over two billion this decade.

Ironically, @Spectator is actually doing what regular activists do when PR people act against what a company says is doing and affects the cause of the activist.

I can understand people not liking a person losing her job because her opinions but when that person whole job is being the mouth of a company... Welp.

I don't like Nintendo take on localization of how hard they want to sell the family friendly image above appeal core fans but I doubt that Alison Rapp getting fired or not is going to change Nintendo point of view in any way.

The fact she had it in her Linkedln is what kills me. Academic work or not, she choose it to represent herself and what she shares in her own professional space (one that is already pretty open to risks as she is a PR person).
