Cyberpunk 2077 Grieving Thread

What’s the most fun/dynamic way to play now that the game isn’t completely fragged?
I honestly had the most fun with my reflex/body/tech build. I was cruising around at high speeds with a heavy assault rifle, a shotgun, and a katana, decimating niggas at sanic speed like I was playing Doom Eternal.

My stealth nethacker build feels really dull in comparison, and there isn't really any good way to 'stealth' stuff like random crimes, and many quests force combat so I feel a little underpowered.

Your mileage will vary of course but my first build felt like it had the most combat variety. You could probably dump tech and switch it for cool to make a competent stealth character instead as well. Body and reflex really feel essential though, especially since Body is needed to jack cars.

Cold Blood is never a bad choice, too. With just a couple points to get stacks up its free XP in that skill every single combat, which means perk points and passive bonuses.

Cyberpsychosis has been a concept since the 80s Tabletop RPG. Its a multi-attribute condition thats attributed to shitty cyberware installation, a society that doesn't give a fuck and well yeah general living conditions.

Also the internet blowing up happened after 2020.
Here's the thing; its actually been established in canon that Cyberpsychosis doesn't actually exist as an actual condition. Its a made up term invented by the Corps and the media to explain away people going bonkers for all kinds of reasons, everything from drug abuse, to mental illness, to the installation of bad modifications.

it only exists because pondsmith needed a reason for why players couldnt just fully borg out like adam smasher and become massively op in the tabletop

shadowrun does the same thing with it's essence.

however there's theoretically the possibility when someone chromes out to go off the rails, but in the end that's probably down to mental disposition, not the amount of tech. either way works fine for balance and lore.

So I bought the game finally...the anime made me want it and then alcohol made it seem like 'hey fuck it its 60$ who cares'.

Honestly amazed. I've only played '5 hours' but the majority of that time has been me chilling/taking in the atmosphere. I can see why people would be upset with what's promised but if you didn't buy deep into the hype then the game does open world really well. I haven't done much of the missions but literally getting lost watching random side screens has been awesome. If nothing else I hope CD Projekt Red continues to work on a sequel with more GTA 5 esque open world activities. I saw in a update panel that they added a literal in game video game to play which seems sweet. More stuff like that.

I was one of those people too who was fully engrossed by the world building in the anime. Funny how that goes huh? Watch the anime to buy the manga, but in this case it's buy the game. I completely ignored all the initial hype and complaining that went on during release simply because the game didn't interest me, so coming from a blank slate I'm with you and really enjoy the game. I'm running it through wine too and the graphical details are really awesome.

Man, this anime comes out, the game goes on sale for half off(and the fact that it was patched up significantly by this point should go without saying) and everyone starts coming back to play it. Meanwhile, I'm looking at the embarrassing number of hours I've logged into the game already and I'm trying to tell myself I shouldn't blow another 100 hours or so on a game I've already played to death.

Cyberpsychosis was orginally portrayed as a gradual disassociation from humanity as more and more of a person got swapped out with robot parts. Interestingly there're actual reports of psychological issues with mechanical implants: patients with artificial hearts have reported a negative impact on their emotions since they no longer have a heartbeat that changes with their mood, denying them the physical sensations that we take for granted. Much like the Robocop movies show, borging someone out successfully is less of a technical problem and hinges more on a person's psyche.

Interestingly there's a service in the tabletop RPG where you can shell out cash and send a character to extensive therapy to counteract some degree of the psychological issues of cyberware.

Essence loss in Shadowrun is actually damaging your soul by carving up your body and sticking weird shit into it. More expensive version of implants can be bought that have less impact on the owner, but no amount of therapy can circumvent the reality of the situation. Horror-ridden unholy rites can keep someone "alive" past the point that most people would die from too much cyber, but becoming a cyberzombie is not something most GMs would tolerate.

Well, how sane do you think your typical Homo sapiens would be on a diet of bug paste and life in pods? Now add in a slow but steady replacement of your own parts with mechanical ones that threaten to make you a literal cog in the machine. Cyberpsychosis is when someone finally snaps at how dehumanized they've ultimately become and begins lashing out at everyone and everything in nihilistic rage. Its like what @robobobo said, you start losing it bit by bit as you no longer feel human, leaving human interaction and human connection as the only thing keeping you sane and centered, much like Robocop. But there's none of that in the world of Cyberpunk.

Unless you're Adam Smasher, in which case you're a borderline cyberpsycho kept in line only by your undying loyalty to Araska for making you a cybernetic demigod and the ability to vent your simmering rage every so often with barely-discriminate violence.

The anime isn't really inconsistent since the cyberpsychosis is clearly a result of faulty mods (Barret's gun arm that Davido retardedly installs) and experimental military-grade mods that he was secretly a corporate test candidate for, which in the last case is so overtuned that it comes with a gigantic integrated med dispenser and they went to extreme trouble to manipulate him into using it just to gather test data after he demonstrated tolerance to the first one.
Just saying; the characters believe the corpo line wholesale but the truth of it still fits with the central conspiracy.

Man I'm the same, I pretty much hundred percented it at launch and I've been resisting coming back until whatever DLCs/stupid Elder Scrolls mods that are gonna happen drop first. I've been thinking about another run since the moment I put it down. But when I do I would like it to be bananas.

>not buying a 2 year old game on sale or from a keysite

plenty of games got an anime adaption for that purpose tho. heck bang dream exists just for that.

It's rather uncommon for a western made game to get an anime though, isn't it? If Poland can be considered western that is.

true, but what else would you use for promotion? some shitty live action tv series? a comic (while manga would be an option it's still not normie mainstream enough)? an offshot game that somewhat competes with your original game?
with anime being bigger than ever it was only a matter of time. and it's not the first time western IPs went the anime route, matrix did it 20 years ago, and there's even a studio trigger star wars short (which is hilarious, given it's trigger)

fuck you ruin johnson, this is how you do it

I remember going to Afterlife the first time and being like, no wonder this shit didn't run on a fucking PS4 or Xbone. The environments are ridiculously impressive and detailed.

Imagine how shitty a Netflix live action version of Cyberpunk would be.

Trigger are also pretty big Westaboos.

The upcoming DLC has V headed into the even worse parts of Pacifica on behalf of the New USA on some sort of spy mission. I haven't watched the trailer because we all know what watching the trailers did for us when the game first came out, so I've not got any problems heading in sight mostly unseen. You Kiwis get to be my cybercanary in the data mine.

As for mods, CyberScript is looking real interesting as far as scripting frameworks go, and with TweakXL/Archive XL people are finally adding brand new items to the game, not just replacing existing ones. It won't be any Bethsoft game when it comes to sheer mod content, but then again, it doesn't need to be IMO.

It's funny how character building is about making yourself as comically overpowered as possible, rather than overcoming any sort of serious challenge beyond the early game. I've been having more fun with the combat system by only using melee weapons. I can pretend I'm a bootleg Metal Gear Rising character as I teleport behind u and kill an elite enemy with one attack before dropping a sniper with a gorillion damage throwing knife.

If I navel gaze really hard, I can pretend it's a brilliant implementation of a high-lethality combat system that even ties into the theme about the cheapness of human life. At least it's a change of pace from dealing with damage sponge enemies like in many pseudo-RPG shooters.
