Even on large forums. KF is large. Hell, Reddit is... the biggest? And its all about being the first in to sock a few upvotes or downvotes and then the sheep avalanche it. Can have the same posts with thousands of upvotes or downvotes based on whatever the perceived "community consensus" is. Its more than just people being afraid to put their opinion/vote out there, because most people seem willing to even change their opinion/vote to just be on the popular side. People want to be part of the herd, the biggest side, they seem to feel like "winners" and "part of something" even if they're anonymous and nobody knows or sees or cares about them.i know on much smaller forums you could heavily influence opinion by just being the first with your take, its why you can hijack threads if you're cool enough.
I think a lot of people dont paypig because they really wanted to and were afraid until someone broke the ice. I think its grosser and dumber. I think of zoomers who were raised on their entertainment being watching millionaires have peasants send them what little there is of their disposable income, and monkey-see/monkey-do, so people are trained over the years that paypigging is just what you do, and who do you paypig to? Uh, whoever everyone else is paypigging to, of course! That's the culture now. Work, then watch Dick or Pewdiepie and send them whatever's left over after rent.
