Pretty sure the United States government is to blame for all of this, ultimately, as well as NATO. As well as Putin, Zelensky, and others.

There was no reason to continue pushing NATO east, there was no reason to continue to back Ukraine as heavily as NATO countries have, and there isn't any justification of merit as to why any of the powers involved continue to play this game of nuclear chicken. This is as pointless as the Afghanistan conflict, many times over more concerning however, and yet the same kind of people who'd readily admit that was a pointless, retarded conflict that didn't need to happen will be quick to support this shit.

I don't even like the US. Half my posts if not more are mocking social liberalism in all its forms, and the US is the most degenerate pusher of cultural rot there is.
However, I am deeply pragmatic.
I like peace. I like nation states, and borders, and stability.
For that to exist, you need deterrence. Hence the ideal thing for me would be for the EU to stop sperging against Poland and Hungary, start building nukes, and nuclear plants, and we will become a fortress, that doesn't need amerifats.
But for now, the amerifats are great for gibs, and where I live, their social influence is severely delayed, so social liberalism is a more distant threat, while the attempt to dismantle a nearby nation state, especially on the basis "such nazis wow such fascists wow" is deeply worrying.
I don't even like neocons, they are socially progressive shitlibs, and J-adjacent too. But it's also true that I couldn't care less if they stir shit up in some African country, just don't expect Europe to take in migrants, and we're OK.

As evidenced by February 24th, there was a reason to "expand" to the east. It's not a fucking expansion, it's countries asking to stay under the protection of an alliance because their violent and irrational neighbor likes to invade.
Of course we shouldn't play nuclear chicken - the problem is that the US is too OP so nations like Russia cling to their nuclear safety blanket knowing they'd get clobbered in a conventional conflict. Hell, the US govt even threatened conventional response to a nuke. We're not even threatening to use our nukes. This is solely Russia's own doing.
The moment nuclear blackmail is on the table, it's not about Ukraine anymore. Now it's about a declining power falling down a never ending flight of stairs in one of the most embarassing conflicts in history, the inability to just cut losses and admit defeat, and the threat of a nuclear state abusing its powers by coloring a map with crayons and saying that whoever doesn't respect such a pathetic display will be nuked. I cannot even process what kind of logical calculation makes it seem reasonable to appease someone who is as irrational as you claim Putin is. If Putin is as insane as you claim he is (starting nuclear war) then nukes were inevitable. If you conceded Ukraine he'd come up with some other unreasonable demand and you'd enter a treadmill you wouldn't be able to get off from, and hope his successor is not like him.
