Firstly, I am genuinely sorry this has happened to you. People generally do not understand the stress this experience puts upon a person.

The police will be taking imaged copies of your devices in order to investigate the contents, so they will be very unlikely to see the password reset email unless they've started the imaging since then. This is quite possible depending on backlog.

These kind of police powers, i.e. the ability to arrest, seize and force into custody without a warrant were, I thought, only used in cases where an immediate response is required (like an armed threat or similar). It is completely insane to me that the accusation that you are merely a user on a forum can illicit such a forceful and disproportionate response. To then not be charged with a crime, and told that there 'really isn't any evidence' is just pure clownery. It is surreal. Why did they not invite you to interview under caution? Or even just a voluntary interview?

Why did you agree to voluntarily give your passwords to the police? Was this on your solicitor's advice? Personally unless charged and compelled I wouldn't have given them anything at all, simply out of principle.

At least this is getting traction, and with the home secretary's recent comments about policing individual's thoughts I hope this can garner a response. The police must understand the 'chilling effect' this has - the idea that the police can come and remove you forcibly from your home from an accusation alone, that doesn't require an immediate response, is disgusting.

More to the point, we know simply based on what Null reveals about the website that the accusation cannot have any credible evidence behind it. Null would likely not comply with a request for IP data, which doesn't last long anyway, and even if he did he would be transparent about it. There's nothing on the accounts to indicate it's you either.

And as usual the idiots celebrating this in the background have absolutely no idea how quickly this Stasi-level overreach can come for them.

i would normally not give a shit about @Caroline Farrow but i too have been arrested and held by a neighbouring police force under slightly dubious circumstances. once this is concluded, i would get a letter from the investigating officer omitting your fault and saying it was a mistake on their part, just as a keep sake. in my experience, they don't enjoy giving them out but pushing hard enough will get you one.
