Section 42 under English law is related to the mental health act and the offenses against the person, but my limited brief reading of both sections doesn’t give me any indication about it granting an officer the right to demand your passwords in this circumstance, but again I reiterate, talk to another solicitor.

You definitely shouldn't troll the English police, especially the Sussex branch responsible for this.

So if anyone ever needs their help, that would be where to look.

It's not the Sussex Police, it's the Surrey Police, and this is getting as much if not more attention than the 'Sussex Police threatening women calling child-rapist a man' controversy so it may garner a response from the gov. As said before, the PCC of Surrey Police is pretty GC so hoping for some sort of correction.

Or maybe (this is still possible, if unlikely) we don't know the extent of the allegations yet.

Absolutely. In the case of UK law though you can refuse to give any unlocking code/key for any type of encryption unless ordered to by a judge, who in this case could have turned around and gone "this is absolute fucking bullshit, release her immediately and come back when you have actual evidence" instead of just pandering.

As you can see from earlier, Caroline is of the 'nothing to hide, nothing to fear' opinion with regards to this whereas I think it should be 'never give the police anything unless you are compelled to'.
