Might I note that it doesn't even need to be a nuclear strike--even launching conventional strikes with the intent to deprive Russia of their nuclear deterrent should be taken seriously by the Russian military. If Russia is unable to launch nukes, then the United States could nuke them with impunity without fear of retaliation.

A Decapitation Strike. That means Silos, Transporter Erector Launchers, Nuclear Capable Aircraft, Pre-positioned Nuclear Assets, and Boomer Submarines must all be hunted down and destroyed. And in the case of Russia, this must all be done in less than an hour ( and really it's closer to 15 minutes).

Thousands of Warheads, all being shuffled around in the world's deadliest shell-game, with tens of thousands of Missiles acting as the cups. Worse, these Missiles themselves are being shuffled around tens of thousands of Bunkers, Tunnels, and Camo-Camps across the 6,000,000 square miles of the largely rural Russia.

It gets worse. Russian Nuclear Submarines are one of the few places where they have put a significant amount of money and manpower keeping up and advancing the art. Pre-positioned, hidden way in the most remote corners of the world's oceans.

The Russians are not North Koreans, they can launch their missiles without explicit orders from Great Leader if a Nuclear attack is confirmed. That's why you have to hit everything, everywhere, all at once. It's impossible.

The Scud Hunt problem is damn near impossible to beat at its core. Something is going to get through. It happened in the Gulf War with the Scuds, it continues to happen with the Palestinians, and various ME Terror groups. It is happening to both sides in Ukraine. He's getting nervous as the reality of the situation is being talked about more and more often by various influencers: that if Russia nukes Ukraine, there will be no retaliatory NATO strike.

Bit of a misconception, and I fear I may have contributed to that perception. Those draftees haven't actually been sent to the front. They are siting on the border in training camps knocking of the rust and retraining. They will likely be committed later this month or more likely in December. There are also several volunteer brigades which will likely be committed at the same time.

Most of the forces on the frontline are the same general forces that were there after the Kiev pullback. The only new formation is the Russian Third Corp in the South where it is there to support the Kherson and Zaporizhia front. The northern front along the Luhansk region has not received a significant increase in the number of forces available to them. They are receiving some replacement reinforcements but thats about it. They are being told to hold or slow-roll Ukrainian advances until the Draftees are ready.

Now where the regular conscript forces come into play is unknown to me. But people aren't talking much about them an an active force. Maybe we'll see them come in with the mobilized draftees/reservists.

And they would spin it that way. But all it takes someone looking at two lines on the 4473 to see that it was absolutely a crime, And not at all unclear when he did it. And there is simply put No Military answer to the threat of Nuclear Submarines. The only viable strategy is to hope that they assume malfunction/error when they either hear a launch order, or stop hearing whatever heartbeat they check in for, and surface and communicate. Then you hope that you can convince them to surrender, or hope to be extremely lucky and close enough to sortie and kill them before they dive and escape, without them launching in the process. Repeat this for every submarine, who have the endurance to wait for months before deciding whether to rain nuclear Armageddon on your ass. It only takes one crew hearing their port of call, families, friends and loved ones died in a NATO strike to say "Fuck it, I've got nothing to live for".

Nuclear subs are terrifying because there is quite literally no counter weapon for them at this time on the strategic level.
