What's happened so far does point out that there's a possibility of something after Biden leaves office and can't pardon anyone. The 4473 with his signature on it ought to be enough all on it's own if somebody wanted a conviction. Strangely they nearly never go after someone for that.

Might I note that it doesn't even need to be a nuclear strike--even launching conventional strikes with the intent to deprive Russia of their nuclear deterrent should be taken seriously by the Russian military. Bit of a misconception, and I fear I may have contributed to that perception. Those draftees haven't actually been sent to the front. They are siting on the border in training camps knocking of the rust and retraining. They will likely be committed later this month or more likely in December. There are also several volunteer brigades which will likely be committed at the same time.On a side note, for all of Russia's vaunted 'military prowess' they seem to have rounded up all their draftees (300k) and... shipped them to the front, Stalingrad style. Let's define the problem space: In order to prevent the launching of enemy nuclear weapons, you have to destroy all of their launching capabilities before they themselves can launch. A Decapitation Strike. That means Silos, Transporter Erector Launchers, Nuclear Capable Aircraft, Pre-positioned Nuclear Assets, and Boomer Submarines must all be hunted down and destroyed. And in the case of Russia, this must all be done in less than an hour ( and really it's closer to 15 minutes).
Thousands of Warheads, all being shuffled around in the world's deadliest shell-game, with tens of thousands of Missiles acting as the cups. Worse, these Missiles themselves are being shuffled around tens of thousands of Bunkers, Tunnels, and Camo-Camps across the 6,000,000 square miles of the largely rural Russia.
It gets worse. Russian Nuclear Submarines are one of the few places where they have put a significant amount of money and manpower keeping up and advancing the art. Pre-positioned, hidden way in the most remote corners of the world's oceans.
The Russians are not North Koreans, they can launch their missiles without explicit orders from Great Leader if a Nuclear attack is confirmed. That's why you have to hit everything, everywhere, all at once. It's impossible.
The Scud Hunt problem is damn near impossible to beat at its core. Something is going to get through. It happened in the Gulf War with the Scuds, it continues to happen with the Palestinians, and various ME Terror groups. It is happening to both sides in Ukraine. And when that something is Nuclear Missiles, even if you mostly win, you lose.
