When I say Vikki is just plain dead wrong, I mean she's dead wrong about the crease on the cover being a QC issue. It's supposed to be there. It's to help keep the square binding from falling apart. While gamergate did not uproot gaming industry, it certainly damaged credibility of people within. Mainly journalists and bigger developers.
As with comicsgate, grifters tried to seize the opportunity, but people involved in gamergate had less patience for them. Instead, they focused on free, grassroot initiatives. They made sites tracking corruption, promoted news outlets and devs that were not on board with the SJW clique. They lost the PR battle, but that's almost a given if you are fighting against media.

Comisgate is far more centralized and focused on milking followers. I still remember how in the beginning they were freaking out about piracy and digital comics.

When the big two falls and all comic books close down then all publishers will go down as well. How long will crowdfunded comics survive once the whole world has moved away from comics? Well, long enough for some folks to continue selling their books, but without the comics stores
there will be no replacement customers, there will be no new fans adopting the hobby of reading books.

Scholastic is the biggest comic publisher in the U.S, and it is not reliant on comic stores. Manga isn't reliant on comic stores either. European comics keep growing in the U.S. in spite being sold digitally almost exclusively. Sames goes for webtoons. Last time I visited a bookstore, Dark Horse (#3 after Marvel and DC among traditional publishers) had more presence than big two. Only publishers to die will be ones overly reliant on comic book stores or ones publishing trash. Over time, the market might become completely dominated by foreign imports.

This was discussed earlier in this thread, but the main factor for the downfall of comic books in general is actually the lack of appeal to children. You have a bunch of deconstructionist, rebooted material coming out in the midst of that crash that in no way appeals to kids, and at the same time manga comes up to take its place. And the actual American kids content doesn’t even get marketed well.

Scholastic appeals to children very well. I think that teenagers are when the most readers are lost.
As to marketing, manga got big thanks to pirated anime, pirated fan translations, and horrid state of american comics. Distributors only got involved later, once it was obvious how much growth potential there was. Quality of American comics is the primary concern.

I got ISOM last night. All I can say is that Rippa delivered just as he said he would.

I didn‘t like the art too much and there was too much use of black shading. None of the characters really stood out to me cuz their designs were bland as fuck. And they spend a whole lot of time talking (universe building I guess) and the action scenes could use a whole lot of work. I mean fuck man, look at this.




Admittedly, I think the fifth page is kind of decent and I have certainly read a whole lot worse comics in my lifetime.
I really didn’t like Isom, cuz the art didn’t stick out to me and the story was meh. But that’s just my opinion, others mileage may vary.
The book arrived in good condition and the paper quality is good. I can dig that.

Overall, I give the comic a C. Because the plot and art is generic at best but, if you factor in Eric’s transparency and his ability to get massive orders like this out to the hands of customers in record time than I’d have to upgrade my review of the book to a B.

Not judging one way or the other, mind you. All is fair in love, war, and online social media Thunderdome. But c'mon, Anna isn't helping. Guess all her dox freely available public information is fair game? All the bugs and raccoons in the Santa Ana area could have a field day storming her She Shed studio if that's the case. Manga also has a ginormous backlog of time-tested content that has yet to be imported. Same with Euro comics but they don’t have an equivalent of the anime-to-manga pipeline to really explode in popularity in America. Translating a couple volumes of a manga that is already complete and had decent popularity/sales in Japan (and, due to the factors you mentioned, probably has at least a small dedicated reader base in the West that will jump at the opportunity to buy it and recommend it to their friends) is a much less expensive and much less risky than investing in a completely new IP.

As an addendum to my above doggo-related post, on Saturday Cecil deprived @FROG's longform CG stream of his presence so he could follow Anna to FlashCast. There, he would ambush YellowFlash, Anna, Rekieta and 4,000 viewers with graphic footage he made of the remains of some family's beloved and well-cared-for dog, almost entirely skeletonized and washed-ashore on a beach in Florida still in it's collar and harness, presumably having drowned in the recent hurricane deluge. The panel and chat were immediately horrified by the tasteless video and shocked at Cecil's apparent lack of compassion and good sense, prompting YellowFlash to quickly cease the masked New Yorker's callous display (or at least the part that actually clearly indicated that it was once a dog). Cecil previously livestreamed said footage on his channel, complete with the prized family pooch's skull morbidly posed for the cover image as well as various snide comments about "Sparky" that made-up over 30-minutes of the 1 hour stream.

The FlashCast atrocity is first mentioned by Cecil at aprox 3:36:00 and the footage is finally shared at aprox 3:39:45.
