President Joe Biden on Tuesday said that the United States will impose sanctions “far beyond” the ones that the United States imposed in 2014 following the annexation of the Crimean peninsula.

“This is the beginning of a Russian invasion of Ukraine,” Biden said in a White House speech, signaling a shift in his administration’s position. “We will continue to escalate sanctions if Russia escalates,” he added.

Russian elites and their family members will also soon face sanctions, Biden said, adding that “Russia will pay an even steeper price” if Moscow decides to push forward into Ukraine. Two Russian banks and Russian sovereign debt will also be sanctioned, he said.

Also in his speech, Biden said he would send more U.S. troops to the Baltic states as a defensive measure to strengthen NATO’s position in the area.

Russia shares a border with Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.

A day earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered troops to go into the separatist Donetsk and Lugansk regions in eastern Ukraine after a lengthy speech in which he recognized the two regions’ independence.

Western powers decried the move and began to slap sanctions on certain Russian individuals, while Germany announced it would halt plans to go ahead with the Russia-to-Germany Nord Stream 2 pipeline.

At home, Biden is facing bipartisan pressure to take more extensive actions against Russia following Putin’s decision. However, a recent poll showed that a majority of Americans believe that sending troops to Ukraine is a “bad idea,” and a slim minority believes it’s a good one.

All 27 European Union countries unanimously agreed on an initial list of sanctions targeting Russian authorities, said French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, and EU foreign affairs head Josep Borell claimed the package “will hurt Russia … a lot.”

Earlier Tuesday, Borell asserted that Russian troops have already entered the Donbas region, which comprises Donetsk and Lugansk, which are under the control of pro-Russia groups since 2014.

And on Tuesday, the Russian Parliament approved a Putin-back plan to use military force outside of Russia’s borders as Putin further said that Russia confirmed it would recognize the expanded borders of Lugansk and Donetsk.

“We recognized the states,” the Russian president said. “That means we recognized all of their fundamental documents, including the constitution, where it is written that their [borders] are the territories at the time the two regions were part of Ukraine.”

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Putin said that Ukraine is “not interested in peaceful solutions” and that “every day, they are amassing troops in the Donbas.”

Meanwhile, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday morning again downplayed the prospect of a Russian invasion and proclaimed: “There will be no war.”

“There will not be an all-out war against Ukraine, and there will not be a broad escalation from Russia. If there is, then we will put Ukraine on a war footing,” he said in a televised address.

The White House began to signal that they would shift their own position on whether it’s the start of an invasion.

“We think this is, yes, the beginning of an invasion, Russia’s latest invasion into Ukraine,” said Jon Finer, the White House deputy national security adviser in public remarks. “An invasion is an invasion and that is what is underway.”

For weeks, Western governments have been claiming Moscow would invade its neighbor after Russia gathered some 150,000 troops along the countries’ borders. They alleged that the Kremlin would attempt to come up with a pretext to attack, while some officials on Monday said Putin’s speech recognizing the two regions was just that.

But Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin told reporters Tuesday that Russia’s “latest invasion” of Ukraine is threatening stability in the region, but he asserted that Putin can “still avoid a full blown, tragic war of choice.”

Funny how European countries that warred with each other for literal ages managed to somehow settle down and coexist peacefully, enjoying mutual prosperity.

This was entirely down the Europe's occupier, the only country to tame their warring tribes. War in Europe now requires permission or instruction from the US.

Retaliate against what? Getting publicly pantsed on the battlefield and their asses beat? Russia broke into their house, not the other way around.
For making Russia look weak. Being powerful or at least being perceived so is extremely important to vatniggers. To them, Ukraine is a fake country that elected a cross-dressing comedian. It is a militarily and spiritually weak country that nobody would fight for, especially when attacked by the world's most modern army (lol). Every moment Ukraine continues to resist is a humiliation and shows the rest of the world that Russia isn't to be feared. The attacks on Russian territory are especially triggering because it proves that the Russian government can't even protect its own people. Since WW2 the legitimacy of the Russian state has largely been based upon its ability to protect its people. Russia might be a poor, corrupt shithole, but at least it was strong enough to defeat any invader. Now Russia can't even stop a 'fake' country from attacking its territory.

I also think that it's telling that the new commander of the Russian forces is Sergey Surovikin. He participated in the 1991 coup attempt on the side of the communist hardliners who opposed Gorbachev and Yeltsin. The only protestors who died were killed by units under his control. Vatniggers are celebrating his promotion because he has proven that he's ruthless and brutal both at home and abroad.

Today there have been a lot of strikes all around Ukraine. Vatniggers are claiming that there have been over 60 hits in Kyiv alone, and dozens in each of the other big cities, including Odesa and Lviv. There are also once again rumors that Russian units are moving through Ukraine, which some say is a sign that the new commander will take the gloves off and finally attack Kyiv itself.

It's also pretty surreal watching Russian conscripts charging over a battlefield littered with their own dead online to be honest; the amount of footage this war has generated is insane, the proliferation of drone and smart phone footage has allowed for an unprecedented amount of coverage. Imagine if in the 1940's people had been able to follow the social media account of some american soldier assaulting Omaha beach, or German drone footage sweeping over the whole Normandy front.
The US Army did shoot a ton of high speed high resolution color film of the Normandy landings. But it was all lost when the guy assigned to collect it and take it to be developed fell overboard and dropped the duffel bag full of film. It's somewhere on the bottom of the English Channel.

Most likely, it's also useful to remember that this part of the front is comprised of mostly Wagner paramilitary, whose command are apparently entirely separate from the conventional Russian HQ apparatus, leading to strategic objectives that are wholly divergent from one another. Honestly its probably best to see the Russian Ground Forces involved in the war as separate and independent armies, compromising regular forces, Rosgvardiya and PMCs such as Wagner.
Yeah, that's a good point. Buddy of mine told me a story of how some guys from militarized security of Gazprom (responsible for patrolling pipelines and the like, got equipment like thermal drones on their hands) volunteered and were sent to the conflict zone, but weren't assigned to any sort of unit or officially processed in any capacity, just got handed some equipment and left to their own devices. Not under any PMC or MoD itself, just a bunch enthusiasts on the frontline, essentially (which to my knowledge is actually a crime).
It left the guy telling me puzzled, and I share that confusion. It's a goddamn mess.

Wouldn't have happened if they had just uploaded it to Icloud though, would it.

I think russia is past the point where they can repair this image, esp. after fucking Azerbaijan broke CSTO (russia's own little NATO) when they attacked Armenia and Russia did not come to aid it's ally despite being obliged to do so, and fucking France had to step in to russia's backyard and broker peace

Just what Russia needs, more tard rage.

But I was told NATO is ebil US supremacy and only the US wants NATO very very much, otherwise nobody would ever want NATO and everyone who joined NATO were forced to do it by jew.

Damn, I guess Belarus and Russia are gonna just beat the shit out of Ukraine as everyone lights their Brandenburg gates and Eiffel towers in blue and yellow.

The sanctions will work THIS time, bros.
OHHH I'M A FIXIN' TO CONDEMN.

By all means please explain how the Russians, who couldn't capture the captial after achieving surpise with their fanciest tanks and other weapons are going to kick the gates to Kyiv in rust wagon T-62s with a bunch of Yokels from the world renowned Belarussian army all while the US gives Ukraine real time updates on when Putin scratches his asshole. Hopefully they skip Pripyat and don't try to build trenchlines in radioactive marshes this time

Because they never tried to go for Kiev, it was a feint attack and retreat so the real force could push through in the south and get mariupol.

This global dominance makes my heart soar like the eagle :semperfidelis: 🇺🇸
The US is walking on thin ice right now when it comes to the approval of Europes population. In the recent protest in Berlin against Sanctions and Inflations you had banners like "American go home" or "How can you sit and watch TV while our "friends" bomb our pipeline". The US knows that and they know that european countries would have caved to the large protests this winter and lifted sanctions, no better way to counter that than blow up the pipeline that supplies it.

Mentality towards the US is the same here in Austria and Italy, people know whos fueling and prolonging this proxy war.

There's a show, BattleZone, where they take an American soldier and a Wehrmacht soldier and have them talk about the war, accompanied by footage from both sides. It's a good show but it's unsettling how the American footage looks like a real movie from the 1940s while the Nazi footage looks like the earliest days of silent film.

Big fuckin deal vatnigger, cope copey cope moar

I don't see how one could win with the army that doesn't know how to think against the one that does.

tl;dr - because they are fighting in Ukraine not Russia. If you were posing a material threat to Russia, the professional army units would get mobilized. You try to send the actual professional defense units to Ukraine and they will mutiny, and their commanders might very well do something about it.

Not under any PMC or MoD itself, just a bunch enthusiasts on the frontline, essentially (which to my knowledge is actually a crime).

Its a Geneva convention gray-area. Your forces are supposed to be uniformed (or at least identified, ie armbands) but the convention recognizes the reality of non-conventional warfare - spies, inflitrators, etc. The usual counter for that is Uniformed troops are to be treated per Geneva convention, non-uniformed soldiers have no rights. Since most countries have treason/sedition/armed insurrection laws, that means they are liable for summary execution.

It would come down to if they uniformed or not. I had a uncle who was DoD civilian contractor doing boring logistic things, but when on duty in other countries had to put on a military uniform during working hours despite being a civilian, and the reason he had do that was it made him uniformed personnel and protected by the Geneva convention should someone launch a surprise attack.
Otherwise he was someone not in uniform doing work for the US military on foreign soil and made him fair game for intelligence services.

I know its hard to tell around here but I was being rhetorial. I know why Putin is losing his mind, his KGB-wired brain believes that Ukraine belongs to Russia, along with all the other WARPACT escapees.

I was mainly rhetorical at the vatnik Putaboos in those posts. I am also against Globohomo, and while I disagree the whole "we need to invade Ukraine to keep NATO from encroaching" line of reasoning, there's a logic there.
But the indiscriminate attacks on targets of no or limited military value.... how is that justified retailation, when the only thing Ukraine has done to Russia is tell them to fuck off, stop their invasion, and now is humiliating them by taking retaking their territory that was taken from them.
This isn't even breaking into someone else's house to take back something they stole from you levels. This is like you trying to get back something from a thief that is still in your house.

Just a reminder:
The sand niggers at al jizz, terminally butthurt they are prevented from ethnic cleansing the Jews and other, bad sort of Muslims, are really stretching the meaning of "base", where "base" often means a building/barracks/hanger on, in, or adjacent to a base for one of those countries. (Which is also why Guam, which is a island smaller than many cities, has 73 bases.)

So public opinion of the US in Europe is still the same as it has been since the mid 1960s

Big fuckin deal vatnigger, cope copey cope moar
Oh you have no idea, public opinion on the US has been deteriorating in the last couple of years, in the last 8 months quicker than ever. People are not stupid. They realize whos the actual baddie when the Nation that funds the war also blows up a pipeline and then gloat about how they will increase liquid gas exports to Europe.

The only ones in need of cope seem to be the hohols today. Continue your seething.

How it started in Lvov

How its going

There's a somewhat absurd reason for that. America had Hollywood. When a lot of relatively known Hollywood types entered the armed forces to fight the war, they were handed Cameras and told to document everything. For example legendary director John Ford was on Midway Island filming during the battle of Midway. The US Army and Army Air Corp especially realized what an incredible tool good camera footage of everything and anything was. They paid highly skilled people to take the best cameras into combat. In much the same way Ukraine is capitalizing on Drone Footage and open source imaging today. Neither Germany nor Japan went as deep into combat footage. The Brits were particularly good about it, at least the RAF was.

Ok, mr. aYN rAND epitome of superhuman capitalist struggle
This is funny that every idea you reffer is constructed by lolcows or pre-lolcows.

Ayn Rand, panslavism, neoslavism, strange mix of homophobic and vatnicism, technocracy - man, it is like a fight between fans of Pokemons and Digimons about which bunch of childlish animation was better.
finally attack Kyiv itself.
They tried it few months ago. This time it will work, sure.

He was fucked in 1991, now he is older and will probably also will not win.

If this is true, it tells a lot of how to wast human resources. What the hell is a role of non-assigned volunteers on frontline? To get killed or to get into freidnly-fire?
pipeline that supplies it.
NS was dead from weeks when it crashed and they are still a shitload of other pipelines from Russia to Europe.

I suspect why the British particularly recognized the value of combat footage and were willing and able to expand resources to capture it was because at the time it possessed an efficient, government-owned media company in the BBC, who could offer a persuasive voice in discourse about the war (oh how far it has now fallen). Anyway on the subject of combat footage provided by wartime governments, the Ukrainian one has released a video featuring the result of a HIMARS strike on a Russian artillery grouping.

Judging by reports and footage it seems to be a slaughterhouse in the Bakhmut direction, the Russians have been throwing themselves at the Ukrainian defenses for three months now, apparently leaving the fields in the area covered in corpses. I don't really get it to be honest, since the liberation of Izium and Lyman there's no longer any strategic value to be gained from taking the city.
There's a funny meme that describes the obsession with Bakhmut as 'emotional' and 'divorced from reality', but I can't find it right now. There has been speculation that Wagner is attacking the town because they have been promised a bonus, but I have not seen that confirmed. Leaving the dead behind isn't unusual for the Russians. I won't post the videos, but there are several videos of dogs, cats and even pigs eating dead Russians. It makes sense that they might be left behind during a rout, but some of the corpses seem to have been there for a long time when the Ukrainians arrive.

Here's another video from the Bakhmut area, showing Ukrainian infantry attacking Russian positions.

Now that I'm posting videos, I might as well post some more. Here's some new HIMARS footage.

This video is supposedly an attack on Russians who were retreating from Lyman.

And here are some Ukrainian vroomers.
