Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

I prefer Spider-Man Unlimited. While not the best series, I was more interested in that.
Unlimted was great, a little out there and felt like it was going to be a Spider-Man 2099 series but they couldn't get the rights at the last minute so they borrowed elements from that series and took the title of a semi obscure book that was more or less started to milk the comic boom of the 90's for all it was worth.

Flash forward to the 2010's...just before the dark times. Ultimate was WAY over hated when it first came out. Most of the hate was from fans butthurt that Spectacular was cancelled and we got Ultimate in its place. Which isn't true Ultimate wasn't directly responsible for the cancellation of Spectacular it was all cooperate bs over the Spider-Man right that marvel and Sony are STILL bickering over to this very day.

I still like Ultimate, even if my childhood belongs to the 90s animated series. (which I admit was and still is a flawed product of its time) Spidey turned 60 last summer and for better or worse he's here to stay. Here's hoping Freshmen year will at least be tolerable and an improvement over the "amazing friends" baby show. Seriously I get it, Spidey's almost as popular as Bluey, paw patrol, or god forbid peppa pig with little kids...even though his franchise has always been aimed at older fans even way back in the 60s. That doesn't mean you have to dumb him down more and more until he's literally turned into a baby's program Marvel/Disney.

I can name three, episodes 4, 6, & 9 of season 2.

Number 4 was mediocre while I like Doc Ock, the Master Planner should have been someone else.

Number 9, Shocker was one of my favorites but the enforcers were lame and unnecessary.

Number 6 had a good idea but what happened to John was just wrong.
but doc ock being master planner was a direct adaption of the comics
Well, that’s who the target demographic is, the adult fans who watch and review cartoons like that guy are usually stunted losers and faggots. I mean, I love cartoons but you should never get obsessed.

By the way, I look at Sarcastic Chorus’s videos, the guy is definitely gay.
i think he's a chaser

What is a chaser?
He wants to have sex with some who's HIV positive and in some cases to intentionally get the disease. I was gonna say developing treatments and especially prep for HIV was a mistake, but there are people who got infected without being degenerate/deviants. They at least deserve a chance at life.

But this is the western animation thread so...

That’s disgusting! Why would anyone intentionally want aids?

I miss the days when artists drew women with actual curves.

Now it's either toothpicks or hambeasts
You and me both brother. But it's not all lost. Rita loud still has her figure despite 11 kids

I'm assuming Johnny test's mom still has her figure in the new Johnny test but that's only cause she was designed in the far away and forgotten time of... 2005.

Ashi from samurai Jack season 5 got spared the fate by virtue of being from a reboot of a show still made by the old dog who worked on it back when animators understood the importance of appeal when it came to female character design.

Hell as much as I dislike turning red? I can at least give them credit for giving Ming Lee a curvaceous figure.* Being well a mom and all, but the fact that she's also the closest turning red has to a villain. While giving her that kinda design really says what the animators think of it here in current year.

*Actually scratch that, not that I can look up pics of her she does look kinda flat in that frumpy green business pantsuit....at certain angles you can see she has a bust and her hips do stick out occasionally but...eh it's defiantly a Karen body even though this movie takes 20 years before those are supposed to exist. still like I said in the right angles and with the right light you can kinda see her figure sticking out so it's' not like they pulled a Ms. Keene 2016 and made her a flat board/toothpick ALL the time.

I'm gonna stop before others start to thirst post in here.

Too late, you already did that yourself.

I love a beautiful woman as much as the next guy but you sounded a bit creepy there.
Spend enough time in clown world, and that'll happen to you. You get so desperate for some reminder that it wasn't always like this, once upon a time the world made sense and up was up down was down and 2+2=4. Unless you're pac man it's unhealthy to chase ghosts.
🚬

Well enough mellow drama who likes jello?

A. isn't that from what's new scooby doo which was 20 years prior to this "coming out bs."

B. again, female characters can ONLY be lesbian they can't be bi for whatever reason, Which honestly baffles me. You'd think the coomers who tune in to owl house nu doo and all the other ":stunning and brave" animated shows, would prefer the characters be bi because if they were strictly lesbian. Well that kinda means they won't be into you anyway right?.....oh wait I forgot, said coomers also tend to be troons who believe they are "so totes real women and can be legit real lesbians too!" Isn't that right Lucas sorrenti, Kevin Gibes, Landon Hiscock, Sophie "Billy boy" LaBelle?

Coomers like lesbians because it makes the carpet muncher "pure" by not be defiled by a dick (the same reason why it's also usually what child/child surrogates are in media, like The Last of Us). While they take every straight woman as being secretly bi by default.

reminds me of the "response" Mr. Warburton gave rebeltaxi when asked about that "authentic $1,000,000 KND treehouse" Cartoon network offered for sale all those years ago and I quote:

"This was clearly a trap set by the KND. When some rich adult sent them the money the KND would spend the money on candy and send a bonsai tree filled with junk."

There is something delightful (heh) about Warburton still being so passionate about the series even after all this time. I'm STILL bummed despite getting as far as it did CN in their infinite stupidity said no to the galactic KND reboot.

It got lost in the......mess of this past summer, but the in-depth teaser for del Toro's Pinocchio dropped during that time.
As expected, it looks to be heads and shoulders above both Lionsgate's animated abomination, and the Rat's (literal) shit-eating live-action debacle, but I want to call special attention to the Blue Fairy's design in this:

TAKE FUCKING NOTES, YOU DIRTY RAT. THIS IS HOW YOU DIVERSIFY AND UPDATE A DESIGN WHILE STILL KEEPING TRUE TO THE SPIRIT OF THE ORIGINAL WORK, NOT....

UNGA-BUNGA OVER HERE.

Good on Criag. Especially since that offer live action Powerpuff girls pilot shits all over his creation and shows zero love for it.

Good on him. I mean it

You know she’s actually in the movie less than in the original? She only appears at the beginning, and the lying scene is changed to “Pinocchio lies so he can grow his nose and grab the key keeping him locked in.”

They turned “don’t lie to be good” into “lie to solve your problems.”

I know right?! Like, I knew that del Toro's version was going to be at the very least, good, and leave the other two in the dust, but HOLY SHIT, bro, it's not even a fucking contest at this point.
Two more things of note:
1. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the art direction. The Italian aesthetic is gorgeous, and Pinocchio looks like a real wooden boy.
2. I also love how Pinocchio seems to be a re-incarnation of Geppetto's dead son, giving Geppetto a bit of pathos as well. (ALSO HIS SON IS NAMED CARLO, LIKE CARLO COLLODI, MY HEART, AAAAAAAA)
If this movie happens to hit a theater near me, you can bet your ass I'm gonna go see it. This movie clearly had a lot of love and care put into it, and damn if I'm gonna let it go to waste.
