Jim Sterling / James "Stephanie" Sterling / James Stanton/Sexton & in memoriam TotalBiscuit (John Bain) - One Gaming Lolcow Thread

Dunkey made the better video, also Blizzard seem determined to remove anything fun from their games:
It's like how trans women who don't do hormones or surgery are still totally distinct from men or drag queens.
They usually are since one of those groups puts in effort since they are putting on a performance and the other are either mentally ill or clout chasing.

This was actually quite poorly written. Jim is a faggot but he used to be able to string sentences together without sounding like he's struggling. Has the troonshine killed off this much of his brain?

it's really weird seeing such an inoffensive, pretty bland and family orientated game get a review full of expletives. The game is too generic to get annoyed about yet his review sounds like he's seething and mashing his keyboard violently.

they could condition western audiences into accepting it
They didn't assume they could or would have to, they thought they already did. Businesses are already exceptionally eager to think of consumers as interchangeable entities defined only by their relative buying power. Cultural differences is for the advertising team to worry about, not for the actual product price point. This is doubled up when you're also facing a woke infected management layer, where suggesting that two cultural groups have different expectations and values in their entertainment is racist and will get you an HR exit interview.

Its not that unique of a mistake either, companies make it all the fucking time, thinking they can just lift n shift a profit generator from one region to another. Blizzards just another on the stupid train.

This really comes off as less of a review and more of a seething that its not an animal crossing clone. Its an upscaled free to play facebook game, and he wanted a full featured animal crossing clone for free. This reads like a jimquisition script that Jim couldn't be arsed to record, so he slapped a score on the end and called it a review.

I just remembered why i don't check in on the Jimster anymore. Its depressing to see him have been right about everything, then either renounced because hes a faggot now, or ignored because of sheer apathy from people who don't know or care about anything. Even more depressing to see how he also stopped caring once he noticed the line consistently move past what he thought the worst was less than a year ago every single year.

Ultimately i think he trooned out because of a lack of attention, funnily enough. He was right, he knew he was right, yet unending apathy from uncaring consoomers consistently left his warnings about the industry totally ignored. Not to mention how he's basically blacklisted from the industry for being so uppity, all his contacts are either gone or leaving. Not surprised he seems so bitter all the time, I'd be too if i was Gaming's Alex Jones.

Alex Jones is gonna fall over the cuckoo house too, same as Nick Fuentes did. It's what happens when you pour yourself into something you find important, a scorching spotlight shines on you, you lose all your opportunities and at the end nobody cares. You've achieved nothing, you will have nothing and people will laugh every time your name is brought up for the rest of time. Fucking miserable innit?

Jim makes the most simplistic and generic observations though. It's not hard to be right sometimes when you describe what others have done for decades. Corporations only care about profit and not people is not really a hot take since the 70s. H8s lootbox crusade was fun. However, I don't think Jim is right about many things, including his simplistic takes on capitalism or his Anglocentric exceptionalist worldview.

He could just discuss video game matters with a wide variety of opinions like people end up doing in this thread, and he might have been able to bring some nice views to the table. Or he could have switched careers or taken responsibility for himself if he was truly depressed about the topic, like millions of people do when they see their passion unrecognised. Hell, he could have moved to the woods abs written a manifesto. But instead he chose to take HRT, overeat, whine about things he doesn't understand from a rich man ivory tower perspective and pat himself on the back for how right he is all the time. Jim imposes this martyrdom upon himself which is why he such a massive cow.

S'not actually so much for being all uppity - Jim is anathema to any movement, reveal, promotion or position as he inevitably makes it all about him.

If you want to reveal something important, you want to send it to someone who can express and contextualize it. This is why the handful of decent investigative journalists out there in gaming get basically all the backroom info - Its never about them, its always about what they've got, and the four other pieces of stuff that wasn't relevant to the conversation until this new reveal came, and they bring it out all at once. They sit on the info instead of waterfalling on twitter over the slightest leak, prioritizing a good story over immediate asspats.

If you want to promote something, particularly review copies, media contacts for questions, etc, you want to give these to creators with passionate fanbases, creators with styles, but most importantly, creators who's style is to maximize engagement with a title in their own unique way. Think Spiffing Brit, who goes apeshit on examining all the fine details of a games mechanics, to find gaps and exploit them. You want someone who multiplies the titles charm, as opposed to simply commentating.

Jim doesn't meet any of these criteria - If a game is bad, he makes it about how shitty his life is instead of about the game. If the game uses mechanics or monetization he opposes, he makes it about how he was right to highlight X flaw in the industry and its getting worse and all this is pointless because his life is shitty. If someone reveals industry secrets to Jim, he immediately goes full blast with them to promote his soapbox about how the industry is making his life shitty. Anything of substance that is being communicated is smothered by his obsessions.

Jims a failed content creator and journalist as he's lost that distant position from which he had a personality to engage with a product in a distinct way, and instead is just using everything as a springboard to bitch about his life. Complaining is not creative, at the end of the day.

Jim must be utterly creaming himself over the recent Bayonetta controversy where the voice actress was only offered $4,000 for voicing the entire game.

He can mention capitalism, sexism, anti-Japanese stuff, voice acting (he's done some voice acting in games previously so I am expecting "I did 10 lines and got more than this!"), Bayonetta being a sexualised game, Nintendo...

This is the perfect storm for his videos but the real question is which Jimquisition will be about it? I am going to be generous and say Oct 31st but I think tomorrow's will have a quick voice over saying "fuck Hideki Kamiya and fuck Nintendo"

oh yeah im totally expecting a JQ over this. Along with the tradition of Jim being completely wrong on it, and only doing it for clicks.

I think you've all missed the point here. Jim wrote an endless, repetitive, joyless article as an act of satire to mirror the game he was reviewing. He is actually very smart, you chuds! Meanwhile, in the real world, I got bored maybe 20% in and gave up, but what I did read felt like a first draft at best and in dire need of an editor; nobody needs to write this many words about an F2P Disney life simulator.

My real question is why did Jim suddenly decide to write a review for the first time in 5 years, and why did he choose such a thoroughly bland game absolutely no one expected to be good?

I think the "I wrote a script for a Jimquisition but can't be assed to record it" angle has some merit there. That thing reads like a JQ episode without adlibbed lines and sketches.

Which option do you think he'll choose though? Is the sexualisation of Bayonetta empowering brave (trans) women everywhere to be themselves or is it oppressing honest (trans) women's fight for (trans) equality?
Bayonetta Passes and doesn't need to browbeat people into sexualizing her, so she's oppressing honest trans women by making their job of passing even harder by setting the bar for femininity too high.

I might buy that if he did his own editing, but for a lazy fuck like Jim surely talking into a mic for 10 minutes over gameplay footage you had someone else record for you then calling it a Jimpressions is easier than typing up a 10,000-word review?

This might be pure schizoposting but I wonder if it's a tax thing, where having an active website let's him write off more money. The more I think about it it makes sense, because if Jim's been reporting his website as a business expense but then gets audited and HMRC see it hasn't been touched in 5 years that would surely seem sussy baka to the tax man.

To be clear this is 100% Just A Theory™ on my part, but of all the bad ending routes for Jim to go down massive tax fraud due to stupidity seems plausible.

The sudden realisation that what made him popular is writing about video games and so he's quickly rushing back to that in the vain hope to preserve his hemorrhaging fanbase and (more importantly) income. Maybe him being invited to write some in-game fluff for Vampire Survivors has something to do with it.

Yes, because then he has to write the script and then spend the ten minutes recording. Thats ten minutes he could spend consooming instead.

I guarantee it took him longer to write that article than it does to write the script of a JQ and record it (not least of all because all his JQ scripts are copy-pastes of each other).

That would also be very on-brand for Jim, jumping on the dying medium of long-form written reviews in a desperate bid to shore up his own dying career.
