President Joe Biden on Tuesday said that the United States will impose sanctions “far beyond” the ones that the United States imposed in 2014 following the annexation of the Crimean peninsula.

“This is the beginning of a Russian invasion of Ukraine,” Biden said in a White House speech, signaling a shift in his administration’s position. “We will continue to escalate sanctions if Russia escalates,” he added.

Russian elites and their family members will also soon face sanctions, Biden said, adding that “Russia will pay an even steeper price” if Moscow decides to push forward into Ukraine. Two Russian banks and Russian sovereign debt will also be sanctioned, he said.

Also in his speech, Biden said he would send more U.S. troops to the Baltic states as a defensive measure to strengthen NATO’s position in the area.

Russia shares a border with Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.

A day earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered troops to go into the separatist Donetsk and Lugansk regions in eastern Ukraine after a lengthy speech in which he recognized the two regions’ independence.

Western powers decried the move and began to slap sanctions on certain Russian individuals, while Germany announced it would halt plans to go ahead with the Russia-to-Germany Nord Stream 2 pipeline.

At home, Biden is facing bipartisan pressure to take more extensive actions against Russia following Putin’s decision. However, a recent poll showed that a majority of Americans believe that sending troops to Ukraine is a “bad idea,” and a slim minority believes it’s a good one.

All 27 European Union countries unanimously agreed on an initial list of sanctions targeting Russian authorities, said French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, and EU foreign affairs head Josep Borell claimed the package “will hurt Russia … a lot.”

Earlier Tuesday, Borell asserted that Russian troops have already entered the Donbas region, which comprises Donetsk and Lugansk, which are under the control of pro-Russia groups since 2014.

And on Tuesday, the Russian Parliament approved a Putin-back plan to use military force outside of Russia’s borders as Putin further said that Russia confirmed it would recognize the expanded borders of Lugansk and Donetsk.

“We recognized the states,” the Russian president said. “That means we recognized all of their fundamental documents, including the constitution, where it is written that their [borders] are the territories at the time the two regions were part of Ukraine.”

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Putin said that Ukraine is “not interested in peaceful solutions” and that “every day, they are amassing troops in the Donbas.”

Meanwhile, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday morning again downplayed the prospect of a Russian invasion and proclaimed: “There will be no war.”

“There will not be an all-out war against Ukraine, and there will not be a broad escalation from Russia. If there is, then we will put Ukraine on a war footing,” he said in a televised address.

The White House began to signal that they would shift their own position on whether it’s the start of an invasion.

“We think this is, yes, the beginning of an invasion, Russia’s latest invasion into Ukraine,” said Jon Finer, the White House deputy national security adviser in public remarks. “An invasion is an invasion and that is what is underway.”

For weeks, Western governments have been claiming Moscow would invade its neighbor after Russia gathered some 150,000 troops along the countries’ borders. They alleged that the Kremlin would attempt to come up with a pretext to attack, while some officials on Monday said Putin’s speech recognizing the two regions was just that.

But Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin told reporters Tuesday that Russia’s “latest invasion” of Ukraine is threatening stability in the region, but he asserted that Putin can “still avoid a full blown, tragic war of choice.”

Better a warhawk than stand aside and let another genocide happen.
What genocide are we talking about exactly? I haven't paid attention to this pointless war for a while. Are we saying that Ukraine is being genocided now?
He could've taken less Ambien and give his Twitter back to his handlers, if free Starlink subscription for the UAF bleeds money that much for him.
Frankly he should have taken more Ambien and continued to give the Twitter mob the finger.

40s called, asked for their guns back
First I stumbled upon it on social media and had to find an article talking about it. C-60, WWII-era anti-aircraft guns. I have no idea what Russian army is planning to do with these.

What's Musk's problem?
If he wants to get paid for his product, fine, arrange a payment deal, it's not like Ukraine doesn't have the cash for it.
But what the hell is this internet stutter bullshit, right after you basically told the winning side to give up and submit to the enemy whose ass you're kicking?
He has poor impulse control and thinks he knows better about things than he actually does. It's great in some circumstances (SpaceX got its start because he woke up one morning and just decided he wanted to go to Mars), but he keeps fucking himself over with it. He also thinks (probably rightly) that staying in the news averages out to a net positive for his stock prices.

Personally, I think he should just shut up for a week and go back to buying Twitter. That's the funny rocket man I prefer. He can send Ukraine a bill.

1.5 million Ukrainians are currently being held by Russia and filtrated in camps across the country, with tens of thousand of children being basically forcefully indoctrinated and spread across Russia, to impede their return. You tell me.
I'm sorry. Last I tuned in Ukraine was on the path to glorious victory with full control of the situation with the Ghost of Kiev flying around blowing up all of Russia, and any Ukranian dissenters being hunted down and killed, so to hear what is going on over there described as Ukraine being genocided is a little change of pace.

I'm sorry, I thought you were engaging in earnest and not being a sniveling, sarcastic jerk. My bad.

If there's one positive thing I can say about Russians is that they're shooting their conscription officers and lighting their offices on fire instead of wearing tyedye and listening to awful music.

Ironic given the Ruskie fucks funded the hippies and are 99% of the reason "the west is degenerate". Fuckers should have to pay in pure suffering for the long march through the institutions. The fact I can't give a fuck about the environment without having to deal with faggots who got brainwashed by their agents into wanting to sabotage western infrastructure alone makes me want Moscow flattened. The fact so called right wing people are willing to forgive and simp for these faggots despite the damage they inflicted on the western world just makes me think they are nothing more than contrarians with 4chan poisoned brains.

A question for any Russians here. How the fuck do people there seemingly ignore he fact that Russia is just as responsible as the Nazis for WW2? Just brainwashed to not think about it? Obviously don't be like the germoids about it but jesus it's like half your fault.

It doesn't cease to amuse that Ukraine is simultaneously kicking the ass of the RF, and Russia is a bumbling incompetent mess.
But also needs endless support and help because Russia is scary and can totally take over the rest of Europe guys.

Everyone was surprised that Ukraine managed to stall the invasion, to the point that the very countries who expected it to end swiftly with Ukraine's defeat deemed it worth to support them. At the same time Russia fucked up a lot, as a result of corruption, outdated tactics and just sheer hubris, all of which helped Ukraine.
Make no mistake, Russia has a lot more resources to spare than Ukraine (at least on its own), but it proves to be costly and at this point is certainly not worth it, but Putin seems to be the kind of retard to fall victim to sunk-cost fallacy.
Ukraine is a fairly small and relatively poor country, yet they managed to fold plans of the Russian army, to the point that there's now even a possibility of liberating Donbas and Crimea, which no one would've believed just few months ago.
When it comes to aid, Ukraine hardly got the best of what US military industrial complex has to offer, let's not kid ourselves. Vatniks talked a lot of shit comparing Russian army to NATO's capabilities, and specifically US. If they can't even handle Ukraine, a country bordering theirs, with a few Western toys, what can they possibly do against NATO?
So yeah, Ukraine got help, but they're still fighting with their own hands. Russia bragged about being able to take on much more than that, so how is that not embarrassing for them?

You guys better stop huffing copium and accept reality. This war is likely to extend past a year mark, Russia exhausted its forces to the point that they're chasing people down on the streets of Moscow to plug holes on the front and are rolling out WWII-era gear. Putin wanted quick annexation and a coup over few weeks at most, but he got himself war instead. Doesn't matter what he decides to call it.
There won't be return on investment for Russia in this, regardless of what happens next. It cost too much in military assets, in reputation, in political capital, in relationships and in human lives... Losses all around. All this to sink Ukraine, who wasn't even supposed to be a real opponent, but a stepping stone on their retarded journey toward "multipolar world".

I'm sorry, I thought you were engaging in earnest and not being a sniveling, sarcastic jerk. My bad.
Sarcastic? Definitely. A jerk? I guess if you really don't want to pick a narrative. Are you guys beating Russia with your hands behind your back or being genocided? Pick one and only one, or engage earnestly yourselves and stop with the bullshit. Sniveling? lmfao you wish, but then being in a glass house casting stones has been your schtick for a while now. Too bad that much hasn't changed.

Exactly. This is your brain on propaganda. You're simultaneously kicking so much ass and invincible and your enemy can't even compete because they are so incompetent, but your enemy is also a mastermind looming threat that is killing literally everyone that needs *you* to go join the war effort. Maybe the truth is actually neither, and by maybe I mean obviously.

Yeah, because nobody on this forum is familiar with the concept of tard strength. The retard country known as Russia decided to pick a fight with someone smaller than it, and since nobody else is keen on directly tard wrangling it because they don't want to risk a thermonuclear right hook to the jaw if they do so, they're giving the smaller guy enough pointy objects to hopefully make the retard realize he's hurting himself just as much, if not even worse, than the smaller guy he's trying to crush.

False premise. They are all retarded.

Some minor thoughts on the side. A lot of people love to shit on Kadyrov (mainly for his lolcowish behaviour) but honestly that dude made quite a good deal for himself and his people. Grozny was fully rebuild to a modern city with Russian taxpayer money and still get's shitton of money every year from Moscow (to my knowledge a small percentage of their FULL GDP). Their soldiers can hang out on TikTok all day and occasionally shot at retreating Russian soldiers. The Chechen police is allowed to cuck ethnic Russians all over the country without direct control from Moscow......seems like a good deal.

Inb. "traitors" Chechens never had any sort of honour in their blood through history. They always used to be poor Muslim inbreds that worked as mercenaries for their powerful neighbours. Check what degenerated shit they did in Georgia in the early 90s. People like Dudayev were a exotic case in Chechen history.
