Re the "do-it-yourself" home server setup shit - it's very very common; the forums that deal with it call it the "wife acceptance factor" and yeah, there's a reason an actual supported "home server setup" is many many times more expensive than throwing together something with Plex and friends.

Modern smart TVs and such can make it simpler; if something fails they can just use the built-in apps. Part of the reason for those apps success.

I suspect much of it is stupidity to get tax deductions for the cost of "home equipment"

Why does he need tax deductions when everything is provided free by sponsors? I don't think hes ever paid for anything in these videos.
Free from sponsor = income to the business (which we are 100 sure this clown accounts correctly) and then he leaves it at his house and of course accounts that as income to himself.

I’m sure.

Not overkill at all :story:

All while kvetching over motherboard costs. I guess he doesn't know anyone willing to give him 5 free motherboards too.
Imagine if he had the most expensive motherboards in his server and they all catch fire because of the cardboard that he put under each of them? You could expect another "LOL our expensive server died" sponsored video.

This shitty keyboard tester brings up a big point for me: there's something with the new LTT videos in the past month or so where I just can't follow them, it's like they're unable to make the talking points interesting, too many abbreviations, too many worthless tangents, all these other things being added to the main point of the video. I don't fucking care about the issues to get the 43" monitor to work in your faggy home configuration with needing a Level1Tech adapter, I don't care about the jank you have to do to make a $100 pc use modern components, I don't care about all the bullshit of a huge ass fan that will actually cut your fingers off.

I imagine he has a... ... ... I don't know what to call it. A sheet? Plate? Slab? A rectangular or square shaped rubber mat type thing, where they could arts and crafts a stand-off type thing for the motherboard. He has all sorts of tools, parts, and junk lying around, I know he has spare/excess rubber somewhere.

Or he could stop being an autistic autere and accept that his home server setup is fucking retarded and go with a simpler solution.

At this point the main channel needs a total rebrand. When was the last time they actually had a tech tip that wasn't related to some retarded thing hes done at home?

None of his videos relate to the common persons tech issues.

They are now doing content that was done years ago.

now imagine it's Friday night, and something breaks, but Jake, Dennis, and everyone else is drunk, fucking, or otherwise busy; but kid your can't watch his favorite animal torture videos and he starts eyeing his sister while holding a kitchen knife.
Linus's daughter is safe for now, because he got more cats.

At least in the past when they were doing non-relatable things it was "lets do this mad thing which is obviously mad" and not "lets MacGyver an convoluted solution to the problem caused by the arbitrary restrictions leading to my edge use case". The former can be entertaining, the latter is only confusing. Much like his video titles.

Their desk made out of radiators/fans was pretty cool. I can appreciate the mad science and "because we can" type videos. Pretty much any of... ... ... I don't remember his name, tall Aryan dude with insane cooling ideas.

Especially with all these LTTLab stuff, it all feels so disjointed. They have this microphone robot, this huge, industrial power test station and now this keyboard bs.

I don't understand why they don't start some of these tests (even though I don't care about them), because as long as they don't do anything with these, the equipment feels like spending 100k$ on one shitty video each.

There's a small clique of youtube videos centered around "heavy equipment rescue/retrieval" (see HeavyDSparks or Matt's Offroad Recovery - the latter is an off-road tow truck driver who videos retrieving cars, the former is a youtube entertainment channel that does similar things but with more and more insane equipment (and to be fair, more and more insane recoveries). I think they're up to a blackhawk now.

Linus seems to be mimicking that kind of "outrageous equipment" stuff, but for no real reason, it's all shitty computer junk anyway (and they didn't even put it in an autoclave).

It's even more sad when you realize a "I built a lego robot to press keys for decades on end" would be a more interesting video than "I bought a factory robot to do factory robot test things"

I bet one of the reasons that Linus wants a Lab is to be a Gamer Nexus, where they get into the major tech-news from time to time from their lab testings, like the Gigabyte PSU, 4090 power connector, NZXT rizer that caught fires and more. That bought a lot of viewers and trustworthy to their channel but unlike the ADHD Linus, Steve is consumer centered, less clickbaity and didn't go all out into the labs(which I think it will be a problem for Linus).

Linus main problem with a big lab will be the same problem that Steve has but in a larger scale, it's not uncommon for you to hear Steve saying that they purchased gadget X because the company didn't sent a review sample to them for testing as a lot of companies don't want to see it failing on a big channel. When the LTT Labs launches a lot of companies will stop sending review sample units to Linus or they will put a NDA clause that forbids them to test it but unlike Steve, Linus like how he does to Intel and NVidia reviews, he will shill for the companies that pays him a lot of money and force the lab to give them a better rating.

If linus don't burn the entire company down before launching the Labs(as he's hiring 100+ people for it and spending money on useless testing equipment), labs is doomed to fail because the average tech soy don't care about things like SNR, flat headphone curve, voltage spikes on PSU and more and at the same time he will be spending a few hundred of thousands of dollar per month just to maintain the lab

Linus and Luke once again showing how out of touch they are with the world. Imagine scoffing at people using Outlook like its not the global standard. Outlook is not just the industry standard in IT it's the standard of the rest of the world in almost any field. I have never worked or studied at a place that dosen't use the 365 package and Outlook.

This, the entire reason he's doing this LTT Labs shit is because he's butthurt that Steve pulls off very in-depth and interesting reviews with a small team somewhere in North Carolina and he gets mentioned by big media outlets that never talk about Linus because he never accomplishes anything significant. This is all fueled by envy, which wouldn't be the first deadly sin that Linus has committed.

I read that as "desk made out of redditors/fans". Considering how many simps he has over there, I wouldn't be surprised if a few hundred of them volunteered to turn themselves into a human desk for Daddy Linus.

Yep. The companies that need this kind of testing either do it in-house or already have a relationship with reputable test labs elsewhere. I can't see too many of them changing their current arrangements, especially when the new offering is run by a slightly awkward salesman with an army of 15 year old fans.

Meanwhile, said 15 year olds don't give a single fuck about anything other than "my e-peen is bigger than your e-peen", and those of us who are interested in technical deep dive videos lost interest in Linus and his shilling years ago.

He is overspending on labs to have the "best" or what he perceives as the best. You see what he bought to do PSU tests compared to GN's little setup? He's getting in way over his head with labs; does he think its going to be sort of UL or something? How is anything from labs going to make money? Does he think people are going to come to him for some sort of certification? Or will it just be the 6th LTT channel that nobody watches?
