This makes me think of the 2020 election, when the republicans were trying to GOTV by talking about Joe’s corruption vis-à-vis Hunter’s laptop. We all know why/how that story was buried, but even if it wasn’t, it was clear that the laptop wasn’t a primary concern to most voters. People voted against Trump’s personality and his “failure on COVID” (which was really just foaming-mouth media creation). And when they saw the republicans focusing on the laptop, instead of whatever issues that were most important to them, it was the democrats who reaped the electoral reward.

So, by all means, continue to beat that drum, Joe. I welcome the fuck out of it. Show the American people that you and the rest of the democrats are hyperfixated on a minor, peripheral issue such as abortion. Really drive in that this election is not about the economy, inflation, or crime…y’know, issues people on both sides are seriously concerned about. Nah, it’s about fucking abortion.

They deserve the electoral raping they are lined up to receive.
Just as planned.

I think this might sting a little more than the 2020 fuck up. When people are struggling to feed their kids prattling on about abortion might just leave a particularly sour taste in their mouth. It's probably the absolute worst thing they could focus on, especially when you consider that for most Americans their abortion access has not changed.
I am confused by this move on their part. I'm seeing a few cinge-tastic "roe the vote" signs on lawns locally (lawns that typically have signs planted right along the road: Clear indicator of a longtime Dem donor and volunteers planting signs for them). Every Dem flier I get in the mail is harping on a past statement allegedly made by the Rep. gubernatorial candidate saying he'd ban abortion (interesting how muh environmental concerns go out the window during election time. I'd love to see the size of the pile these tag board fliers make). They are leaning hard into it. The only thing that makes sense to me is that it's a means of energizing their base, who according to polling I've seen are the only ones who rank the abortion issue top three. But those are votes they'd obviously get anyway. Could this be an indicator that they are having turnout concerns?

Goes to show, there's no point in trying to convince neighborcattle of anything. Even the people who are scared about inflation now won't be thinking about why it happened. I truly feel for the political operatives, trying to discern what the schizophrenic public is fixated on in any given week.

Goes to show the importance of listening to boomer advice, at least sometimes. Can't make politicians do anything useful, and the retards you know certainly can't be trusted to vote in anyone useful, at least consistently. Make sure you can take care of yourself first and foremost. Never been more glad I decided to get off oil heating and put in a backup wood stove, just in case I find cheap wood. And these days, relative to everything else, wood is cheap.

Once upon a time women would march their men to the atm to get his wages then hand him his pocket money that he would be allowed to spend at the bar.

Men were breadwinners, but women where the bread manager.
Is this actually true though? It sounds like something conservatives made up as some kind of argument against feminism.

It was true and it was coming to an end when I was growing up, now everything is online banking. Even to this day it's women that are spending the most of the money whereas men are earning the most of it. Unless things have change in the last 5 years since I checked those stats.

Gas keeps going down because the democrats keep tapping into the Strategic Midterm Reserve. Was over 4 bucks here, seemed to go down 40 cents out of the blue, must have been some more political dumping.
The price that should really worry people isn't the price of gasoline, but the price of diesel. Diesel runs all the trucks and trains that transport goods across the country and keeps the supply chain going, and supplies and prices will be directly affected by it.

And last I checked, locally the price of diesel is...$5.00 a gallon.

One bit.

Banking hours VS job hours

Who is able to go to the bank, the telephone company, the electric company, the gas company, the water and trash company?

Who is able to pay the bills and who is working during those hours?

Who has the time to go to the store to buy groceries and who is working?

I saw an article earlier how hundreds of tons of food are backed up on the Mississippi river due to drought levels not allowing barges to travel. If so, then I predict prices will increase at least 10% over the next couple of months, especially when you consider the aforementioned increased cost of diesel making trucking/shipping more expensive as well as the relative price increase of fertilizer due to the Russo-Ukrainian war.

In my family it was. Dad worked full time in construction, and the only thing he had energy to do afterwards was drink a beer and watch football, so he happily handed over his paychecks to my mom. There was zero fucking way he was going to shop, cook, pay bills, get school stuff arranged etc. It should be noted that my parents are huge liberals, so it wasn't a political or "trad" thing, just purely practical.

It's very similar to the "we need an election holiday" point of view, if you think about it (and maybe we do, I'm not arguing either side).

The market is open from 6:30am to 1pm on the west coast, and you have to be up early enough to study the overnight market as well, so during active trading periods I basically wake up when the kids go to sleep
