And also that Wyoming, Utah, Idaho, North Dakota and Iowa are all red states and have low violent crime compared to the US average. I am 100% convinced South Dakota being that high has to do with Injun reservations.

This is pretty much attempts to counter the absolutely brutal point about Democrat cities turning into hellholes. The Dem machine is crying about 'the most racist political ads since Willie Horton to hit the small screen'.
It's interesting they bring Horton up. Yeah, I'm sure for some, Willie Horton's race was a factor, but what got people pissed -- and sank Michael Dukakis's presidential run like the Titanic -- was that there was no way he should've been out on furlough, and yet mysteriously, he got set free. And then Dukakis was about as empathetic as a sponge to the couple he assaulted and brutalized.
No one was fired, disciplined, criminally charged, or even so much as given a stern talking to for letting a bipedal predator out of the cage he belonged in. But we're the racists, guys. No, really.

Eh yes and no. Crime on reservations does tend to be high but I don't even know if those factor much into federal reports since they're typically handled by tribal law.
A few years ago though there were a ton of people going to both the Dakotas to work in various fields. Iirc there were a lot going out to work oil or some form of resource mining when Trump was president. With that kind of work they tend to hire a lot of people who are already crazy enough to spend 18 hour days doing hard labor, which usually means hiring at least a few meth heads or guys with records.

The thing with Indian reservations is that they aren’t part of the state. Nor are they part of the US in general. So murders on the rez are basically in a vacuum and never counted for anything.
E: fun fact - the same applies to international airports, but it’s harder to murder someone in ATL than it is in Atlanta.
