You'd be correct. Native Americans are the demographic with the second highest rates of violent crime. People just don't notice it much because of the fairly low numbers of them, the fact that they're more out in the boondocks by themselves, and that the violence is mostly contained within their own community.

This seems so incredibly short sighted even for them. One more angle that hasn't really been discussed as to why the Dems are trying to forestall the inevitable as hard as possible: They're dying. Literally.

Many of the old guard are pushing well past retirement age and into the sunset. Time spares no one. There's a reason somewhere like 50+ Dems are planning to retire after 2022: Many of the lifer politician types have been there for decades - in a few cases, they've been in office longer than people on this board have been alive - and few, if any, have appropriate replacements or successors - the final short-sighted punchline to the Dems purging the capable mid-level leadership for better control of the party writ-large. The DNC basically expects them to RGB themselves and run forever, but... They can't. The DNC forced Pelosi to remain despite intentions to retire this year.

The goal for a few of them is to remain in power just long enough to fuck off with something resembling dignity before it all comes crashing down. There's no one to replace them at this point except for insane progressives who will utterly bulldoze what remains of their legacy.

Why did they do the purge? You mentioned the activist faction of the party got fed up with being handed lip service and primaried a few dems. or is this the result of obama and OWS?

When they did the purge, which was nearly 15 years ago, the people currently too old to stop shitting themselves in public were still young enough to want more power and money. When you're at the top of the pile, stepping down and letting go is something you'll have to be forced to do. It's like how so many college professors refuse to leave and give someone younger a chance, because they moment they do, they lose the funding, the grad students, the research grants, the conference invitations, etc.
