The idea of Stacey Abrams suggesting that abortions are good for inflation seems ghoulish if one thinks about it. When she pivoted towards the same climate change agenda, she’s essentially suggesting that killing babies and/or not having children is good for you so you don’t go broke in life.

If you look back on it, the main tactic they used to shut down the Tea Party (and also Occupy) was to promote the craziest motherfuckers as hard as possible - and prop them up to ensure the message got as muddy as possible. That required that you have a ready supply of usable crazies (the Moral Majority clowns in the case of the Tea Party, and the Intersectionalists in the case of Occupy) which can be counted on so that the message goes from something cogent to something ridiculous. For the Tea Party this meant getting people opposed to gay marriage shrieking about random nonsense, and for Occupy.... well fuck you've seen the infamous Daily Show clips by this point.

But the establishment has a lock on the craziest motherfuckers and everyone knows it by now - a cold side-effect of the same shit several of us (myself included, but especially @MirrorNoir and company) talked about all thread long. Oh, you can find a few MAGA supporters who believe in something patently ridiculous? Sure would be a problem there if we didn't have sitting Dem congresscritters going on about how 9/11 was a good thing or something.

Abrams is butchering and badly butchering at that, a sort of unpleasant truth about life in eras of high inflation and economic catastrophe: that abortion becomes a viable alternative to people who just don't have the financial stability or resources to raise a kid.

If you are poor or middle class and barely getting by, having a kid can be an economic catastrophe to your very existence due to how expensive it is to have a kid, let alone raising one. To the point that it's much cheaper in the long run to pay $500+ to kill the kid inside of you, than actually have the kid and be on the hook for thousands upon thousands of dollars raising and educating and feeding them.

But it's not something people want to talk about because it reduces abortion to literal eugenics for poor people and incentives the notion that abortion as a means of population control by way of allowing poor people to kill their unborn children because society makes it impossible for poor people to raise kids in such an economically apocalyptic society.

This is the danger of leaderless movements. The two largest problems they face are, as you say, the grifters, but also the opposition trying to concern-troll them into appointing a leadership, which then becomes a single point of failure. Either they're bounced into accepting already-controlled leadership; or they're harassed into anointing one of the self-appointed "leaders" that pop up to try and grift, who will almost definitely have skeletons in his closet that can be exploited by the opposition to discredit the movement.

The Tea Party suffered and eventually fell to the latter, allowing itself to be conned into picking leaders, who were then systematically discredited and destroyed, taking the movement down with them. Occupy suffered the former: Deliberate subversion by outside forces assuming leadership positions, though they were certainly exploiting flaws that already existed within the movement. It's likely occupy would have fractured eventually, due to the woke discourse that had already permeated the American left, but it would probably have split into a weak woke rump and a larger, non-partisan or centre-left populist group. Instead, the woke infection was deliberately encouraged, in order to drive out the populists and "centrists", and the woke rump ended up becoming the only part left standing.

A movement that aggregates around a single figure, like with the Trumpismists, is far less vulnerable to that brand of subversion, though it does come with its own set of problems.

I have a feeling that a significant portion of the black male voting population of Georgia isn't going for Stacey Abrams. She's a fat, obnoxious, aggressive, gap-toothed black lady, and they've been around women like that all of their lives and won't be enthused about voting for one to run the state. That doesn't mean they'll vote for Kemp, most of them won't, instead they'll just stay home on election day.
