Silent Hill

Pretty much everything is off about the remake. They've missed the point completely. It's just a cash grab for graficskiddies.

I would be a lot more interested in forte if it wasnt a Silent Hill game, the way they called it Silent Hill but it has none of the hallmarks of the Silent Hill franchise just screams to me that they're trying to ride off the name. If it's a metaphor about the nukes, I'm going to kill myself.
Silent Hill 2 Remake is just lol. If I want to play Silent Hill 2 again all I have to do is plug my PS2 back in. I'd be a bit more upset about it if I had to contemplate its existence ever. A RE2make situation, this is not.
Townfall seems to be veering into the rightfully maligned SH2-esque "therapist town" meme that the series has largely fallen into, but i mean, its that or the cult so whatever. I'm most cautiously optimistic for that one since it at least seems like a Silent Hill game so far.

I was wondering, are they missing the point so hard for the SH2make that they're actually spoiling the plot for whatever zoomer hasn't played before? Because Silent Hill 2 was a pretty slow burn and James seemed genuinely optimistic, if skeptical, at first. You know why. Here, James Jr. is all mopey and blatantly depressed, and they chose like the most damning shots (him hanging himself, crying in the mirror) for the fucking announcement trailer. Gee, I wonder what he's so sad about??? I wonder if they're just not even trying and just assuming everyone knows what his deal is, in which case there's even less of a reason to remake it.

This poor series. Even when Konami does try to pay attention to it, it gets nothing. They should have just sucked Kojima's cock and begged him to come back and make Hills.

A word about Silent Hill F, while i *love* the idea of the Otherworld being different depending on the person experiencing it (one of the things Shattered Memories got right with the frozen Otherworld) that trailer is giving me Siren vibes...

If you know Silent Hill you probably know about the Forbidden Siren series too so i won't delve into it, but damn... In my opinion, those games are awful gameplaywise. Clunky, slow, unfairly hard... They've got an intriguing plot that's interesting to read about and/or watch someone else play, but as a game itself? They kinda suck.

Not a fan of the old rural Asia setting either, that's more a matter of taste but i always found it so... Monotone? Feel like it all looks the same.

Piling on the nitpicks... I don't mind having a schoolgirl as a protagonist, in horror, anything can take that role, but come on... Can't they just give her normal clothes? Swear the japs have some odd fetish about sailor uniforms, underage girls and feet, and it doesn't help that apparently the kid walks around barefoot too for some reason. Really just feels like whoever designed her did it with a hand down his pants.

Now, i'm a niggerfaggot, but am i supposed to know who Ryukishi07 is...? Game's bulletpoints include this guy writing the story, but if the writer's billed by what i assume is his online handle, first thing that pops to mind is "fanfiction", and i can count in one hand how many good ones there are.

Has anyone else noticed that the lighting and atmosphere in the remake just looks really off? Everything is too bright and completely lacking the graininess and desaturated look of the OG.
I remember complaints about the remastered ports being too clean because it didn't have the grainy filter.

He did horror visual novels. He used that pen name for so long that that's how people even remember him.

Its always been an inevitability in this modern age that people who started out producing online content and first made it big that way would be known by their online usernames within the industry (as long as it's not some shit like Cumguzzler007) and apparently the dude is a good writer so i think forte will probably turn out good overall, i just think that if he truly is that great a writer they could have had his title stand on its own and not pretend it has anything to do with silent hill

Let me be fair and say that wasn't why he was put on the map. The most fun Higurashi and Umineko brought was getting fans together and try to figure out what the hell was going on. The fanservice is a tiny fraction of his work and not even the most memorable parts.

PSA: Don't believe the anime profiles saying this guy can write. The reason why Konami is pushing this chink hard is because of his popularity, not whether or not he could be a competent writer.

Reasons why this guy sucks:

His "mysteries" are not only generic in premise, but also a complete cluster fuck full of archetypes and Anime cliches that would make anyone cringe. The best example of this is Higurashi, with it's carbon copy harem anime archetypes and self insert protagonist. Not only that, but the "most impactful" scenes from both the game and anime are just bad gore fests where loli girls get stabbed or murdered just because it's "scary." It's run of the mill cringe anime writing, any semblance of "engaging mystery" or "immersion" which is something the "fans" keep yapping about Higurashi, gets completely thrown out the window when the autistic blue haired loli goes "nipa".

TLDR: His writing is just coomer level visual novel where the guy is more centered on making self insert fantasies with archetypes than creating something engaging and not autistic.

"Isn't this scary? Anime little girl has dead eyes and is angy and about to kill you with a scynthe? Oh my this is sooo spooky. She also cooked meatballs for your pleasure. Oh my god those had needles in them! Oh my lord! This gives me the chills"

Alright, now give us your professional synopsis on Umineko.

Just realized that the OG Silent Hill 2 trailer showed lots of gameplay and very little plot details (the most they had was ingame cutscenes just showing off the cast), while the remake was majority plot teasing and flash and zero gameplay. Easy metaphor for gaming in general these days. They're missing the point so hard

...Yeah, reading this, it explains a lot... Not a fan of anime, so my expectations for SHF went down a little... Still, i'll give it a chance

Something that should be added besides that f is the only interesting looking title and that Blooper team is already fucking up the remake by not understanding subtlety at all is that this is supposed to be a revival of the franchise according to Konami at yet SH1 the one that started all in the original Playstation and by modern standards even those of latter SH games is clunky and rough around the edges is completely ignored to get any kind of remaster or I dunno maybe a remake? Imagine being able to play Achemilla or Midwich Elementary with the same level of detail that the Playstation 2 games had, being able to visit all the scenarios that Harry goes through and that weren't used in any other game of the series.

Oh yeah sorry, I forgot that the first game is about that silly little cult and apparently fans don't like that because they can't jerk off as much with their muh drepesshun themes as much as essayfags love to do with 2. Oh well maybe Twich plays Silent Hill directed by JewJew will fill that void, don't forget to buy your skateboard!

Mother fuckers really out here saying Higurashi season 1 at least wasn't entertaining.

The dude's an interesting pick for a Silent Hill game, simple as.
I won't lie, he needs a wrangler. I think there's more to his stuff than just "killer waifus" but he needs someone to tell him 'no'.

No kidding, this was MGS1 at E3:

The first Siren is one of the most impenetrable games i've ever played. Anyone who says they beat the game without looking at a guide is a a liar, simple as.

"Bro you didn't know to pick up a face towel, go to a sink in another building, wet the towel, then plug in a freezer, place the wet towel in the freezer, then in a different mission with a completely different character 12 hours later, retrieve the same frozen towel, take it to a piggy bank elsewhere in the level, place it under the piggy bank, wait two minutes for the towel to melt, causing the piggy bank to fall, which will distract the attention of an enemy so you can sneak past??"

Thankfully Siren: Blood Curse, a reimagining of the game on PS3, is a much more linear affair which removes a ton of the esoteric puzzle nonsense. Absolutely recommended for the atmosphere and mindfuck plot.

Not a bad OST either:

Siren was basically meant to be its own form of online co-op for its' day. Like the insanely convoluted mission design was intentional, made for people on early forums to work together to figure shit out. You were never meant to beat it on your own. I don't really like to fall back on "it was acceptable at the time" as an excuse for shit game design but it really hinged on web 1.0 enthusiasm to get people to work together to solve the game, kind of like MMOs. It's a flash in the pan that we can never really have back, unfortunately, because the novelty of the internet is long gone. That said I'm biased towards apologetics because I fondly remember getting a demo disk for it in a magazine as a kid and it scaring the fucking shit out of me

Really no point in suffering through it now, i suppose, except if you're a horror buff. Sightjacking still is a cool mechanic

I didn't say it was a masterpiece, calm down.
Never even implied it should have been.

Ok, I won't derail the thread any longer than I have done so, I will just leave this. If you want to feel optimistic about F go ahead, more power to you. But it seems really strange that the only people in this thread whom have vouched for Higurashi have been anime pfp's, one of which has not even played the game, and a coomer. Not only that but they couldn't come up with a clear and valid reason why Ryu's writing isn't shit.

I won't lie, he needs a wrangler. I think there's more to his stuff than just "killer waifus" but he needs someone to tell him 'no'.
I never even wrote that's what it was. What is it then? The mystery?
a fucking virus making people kill each other, how fucking stupid
The secondary characters whom are comically evil/good? The switch in perspectives that is sloppily written? The tragic backstories that are forced? oh she has an abusive uncle, that's why you should care for her and let her be your little sister.

That's it. I don't even think the people who will play F will even give a glance to some autistic vn to know what they're getting into. Just know that if you think Bloober team has no understanding of subtlety, wait until you see this.

I know it's the anime but it's a one to one adaptation of the game

Siren could have been even more successful if it wasn't for that awful dub.

I'll just say Silent Hill 2 remake looks better than expected. It's almost impossible to recapture the specific visual aesthetic of 5th & 6th gen games.

I'm just worried the gameplay will be generic action game fodder, you know, Uncharted but foggy. I don't know what to think about Silent Hill F, first impression is it's "try hard". Feels forced, I don't know, contrived? We'll see.

Konami is really dumb if they didn't approach SadSquare to make an SH game. Those guys clearly love the series since they went through the effort of remaking the apartment from SH4 for a 10 second gag in Visage.

I like how that isn't even the right setting for when the noose cinematic takes place, considering the whole noose thing was an indoors puzzle setpiece originally.
With the rain it makes me think that that particular shot might be from the prison yard gallows sequence that they've Improved™ but tough to say. Another example of fantastic mood and ambience with the sound of horses running around you in the darkness of this giant open yard after the claustrophobic horrors of the prison interior. And even better when you remember there are subtle references to being drawn and quartered hence the sound of horses in the first place.

The shot of his trembling hand killed me. It's impossible for me to separate my own knowledge of the game from someone without any idea of it but maybe someone who's going in blind might see that and just think 'oh, he's so scared from the scary town that he's shaking!' Maybe.

I've posted about this before I think but Siren is one of the greatest games you should never play. It's clunky and obtuse and the original PS2 version has a shitty frame-rate (Blood Curse is atrocious too when sight-jacking) but the story and ambience and sound design is so so so good that you just need to watch some of the fans who've done Let's Plays and aren't total spergs show it off. Siren 2 is bizarre and worth watching too but not as interesting as the first game. Siren 1's OST is fantastic dark ambient by way of Japan.
Siren could have been even more successful if it wasn't for that awful dub.
The dub is awesome. So strange, perfectly fits how bizarre the game is.
