Escape From New York: Louis Rossmann Edition - Hopefully he does not make Texas a bughive

From the comments section of Louis' latest YT community post (archive).

The last point supports my hypothesis that Eron Wolf is Louis' new employer. Speaking of which, the community post itself is interesting:

I still have no idea who this Eron Wolf cat is or how he made his billions, but he seems almost too based to be true.

First of all, I'm surprised Mitch Altman is still alive (he created those universal remotes that turn TVs off). From presentations I've seen of his, he's given me the pedophile vibe, like almost everyone in Silicon Valley. As for Eron, according to the Q&A above, at 41:04 he mentions he wrote a game web site that Yahoo bought and turned into Yahoo Games. He also talks about it on his company's channel in this video:

Going through the Q&A, he sounds like he was one of the lucky nerds who saw what a shithole SV was becoming and faded into the background after making a his fortune during the dotcom boom. For instance in the section about SV politics starting at 20:46, he talks about James Damore, lamenting that Damore fell for the HR bullshit that lead to his ostracism.

Doubleposting, but Louis did a stream yesterday on his second channel answering some of the questions about the move. Stream is here:

Some highlights include:
  • 0:20 - Why is he moving? He got tired of putting up with the fines. The latest business audit claimed he owes NYC "to the tune of $600K". Also, he liked what Eron was doing after meeting in Austin.
  • 2:25 - He will be working for Eron as the "Director of Community Outreach". This includes running a local hackerspace.
  • 3:25 - He doesn't see it as selling out, instead he is tongue-in-cheek about it, saying it's a "public service" and that if he hadn't met Eron, he'd still be doing it for free.
  • 4:00 - Cats are moving too, and anyone who asks that question is retarded.
  • 7:12 - His top employees, Chris and Steve, as well as three other people are coming with him to Austin.
  • 9:07 - Half of his business was from walk-in, half was from mail-in. Moving forward, he will be doing less types repairs since the cost of certain spare parts is no longer profitable. Also, the remaining employees didn't want to learn to do the more involved repairs or move to Austin, so they will have about four months remaining in their employment.
  • 13:11 - He's already answered what happened with Erika, and if people want him to talk about it now, they have to pay him fifty bucks.
  • 13:40 - He got scammed by one of the "for rent" posts on apartments.com.
  • 16:03 - His store will be in the same area where Eron's company is, and he won't have to pay for the space.

Here's something I haven't seen mentioned in Louis threads but might be relevant. Louis suffered a concussion in 2018 after slipping on his bike on a metal plate lovingly put up by NYC.
Might've contributed to his instability. I'm glad to see he is doing better after moving to Maine and commuting on autopilot rather than riding the seventh circle of hell that is NYC underground

I always found this guy curious, because he obviously hates Apple as much as the average Linux user yet he makes a living from repairing their products.
If you made a living repairing MacBook's, you'd hate Apple too. There are so many retards out there who dont take care of their devices and a lot of them happen to be Apple owners, that and a lot of Apple devices are ridden with manufacturing defects, lots of money in Apple repair.

He's also said that he wishes Apple would make good products that didn't break all the time, people would be happy and he would be forced to find another job.

Mazel tov, Louis.

Pro-click, that one was very funny. Rossman rarely leans into the humor like that.
Not going to lie, while I can't respect anyone who thinks either Destiny or Jordan Peterson have anything worthwhile to contribute, let alone both, that was pretty funny.

New York State slapped Rossmann with a six figure tax bill for reasons they never said and he had to fight with them to correct it. Hence why he's leaving not only NYC but the state too (and that's besides the general crime, unpleasantness and shittiness of NYC).

Good video from Rossmann.

There have been rumors about a Tesla phone for at least a year now. It could end up like a Freedumb Phone but not just another rebranded Chinese Android phone, and with some features specific to Tesla car owners.

Not that you need a phone app to use Twitter. There's something called a mobile web browser.

He makes a good point. Too many idiots rely on other people to tell them what to do instead of doing things themselves. Fucking around with your own computer, installing different OS', figuring out what works and doesn't work is part of the fun of owning a computer in the first place, and it's why I go back to older windows on VMs... to relive the glory days and play old-skool games that don't work (properly) on newer OS'.

It fucking sucks we've come to a point where majority of people are actually fine and O.K. with loosing that freedom with technology. I never would have imagines society being that mentally weak where they are told what to buy and how to use it, and people just go with it without asking questions.

What I wouldn't give for a phone that uses Sailfish, instead of anything android-based. Anything to break the duopoly.
I remember the good old days when I thought that Firefox OS could be a contender (at the low end).

There are reportedly a bunch of Linux-based operating systems for the PinePhone. I can't say how well it acts as a phone though.

He also has made the point in previous videos that nothing is going to get adopted if it feels "open source", AKA, janky as hell and you need to do 4 extra steps to do anything that a corporate OS does as a default to cover 99% of use cases.

You can see it on Linux all the time, every single desktop environment sucks compared to Windows or IOS, even when you can tweak some of them to kind of emulate some behaviors, there is still not a single one that just copies Windows, because every single open source developer feels like they "know better" than Micro$oft and the 30 years of cumulative updates meant to make an OS as intuitive and productive as possible by teams paid hundreds of millions of dollars to do just that, regardless of what you think of the backend. The result is there is no real desktop competition for Windows, just people who don't actually work on computers on IOS and tech savvy power users with high tolerance for dealing with bullshit on Linux. I've given up on trying to convince anyone to use Linux unless i know they have a comp science degree and are trying to setup a server, its not worth my time.
