It's like I said about Mitt Romney years ago: What you start preaching when you have something to gain--or lose--doesn't mean anything. It's going to be a long time before anyone trusts these guys again, if ever.

The problem with Saville was the scale of his charity work effectively made him bullet-proof. Information could be more easily suppressed during that era because it was held by very few people and it was difficult for people of similar experience to seek each other out discreetly, this was only aided by the internet and other media outlets upon his death when the 'rumours' resurfaced and were more properly investigated.

But you see, that's the self-described purpose of the media. They're supposed to search out, investigate, expose, and inform. When you fail at what you set as your own job description--and when you engage in systematic shielding of the people you're supposed to be exposing--you're fired. Time to rethink the system. Time to reform, and do away with the corrupt and the unnecessary.

Dyne's brought up the fact that GG is a self-sustaining resource when it comes to lolcow generation, but I don't even he realized the breadth of nuttery we'd see from all this stuff. None of these people can take responsibility for anything, no matter how directly culpable they are. Alison Rapp was just the newest part of the same goddamned thing we've seen for over a year now.

I only "feel sorry for them" if they actually try and seek help (from a qualified therapist, not an online self-help group like the creeps over at VirPed). If you truely feel like "I can't help it", then you need to try and deal with it like the disorder it is, and not just say, "well, it's an orientation, like being gay!" Nope, we're not supposed to be attracted to children.

So I read the OP and it sounded to me as though this virped.org place was actively seeking to protect pedos from public scrutiny and actively matching them with communities that will protect people. The mentioning of Butts, Colby and Rapp in the OP on this virped community led me to believe that this community had some sort of direct link to those three. I looked through the replies here and no one was really elaborating on what those links are, however people did seem concerned so I decided to look into this virped community a little further.

Virped.org is a community that boasts a community of 1,200 members, however there is no public discussion and for access you must contact the administrators of the website.

There is a tab for quotes from scientists on pedophilia and the treatment of those who seek to never harm children. None of the quotes seem to advocate for those who have actually committed a crime or violation against children or expressed that the use of other media that sexualizes children in fiction should be used to suppress the urge to hurt children. It simply accepts that pedophiles exist and that research and practice in psychology should support prevention of child molestation. One way is through treatment of the condition.

Reading posts by those pedophiles makes me want to bathe in bleach for a week. I really wish there was a way for putting these people in some sort of data base who made these posts, but that opens up whole other box of issues. The posts made by the men with children is very disturbing they may think they did nothing, but I'm sure the children even the adult children have memories of something not being right with their fathers. I'm sure they at times caught their fathers leering at them or have repressed any memories that is to horrible to fathom for most people. I just wish there was some way of once or if these people are doxed they are put in some remote place where they can never see children again. Also since the American government loves to spy on our data online I really hope they are watching these sites, because they may say they have not touched children, but it is probably a lie as all pedophiles do is lie.

I have begun to do some investigation on some of the players in this VirtPed thing. One of the most prominent ones that I have come across has been this Todd Nickerson. He is a staff member on the VirtPed forum and is currently on Twitter. His ED page draft has a lot of info on him as well.
