Are we sure she doesn't know we are back and is just not saying anything? She sure is subtly responding to a lot of recent criticisms, and it was only a few days ago someone said she'd get better engagement if she actually posted pics of the damn cats once in a while....
I've had the same thought. She sure seems to be bringing up some of our points.
I think Polly is a complete sack of shit and those animals are being neglected and abused. Gomez's coat looks like shit - he looks dehydrated and stressed at a minimum.
But Alabama is one of the poorest states in the country. I've got a few friends in the area in animal rescue, and things are dire. Shelters are overflowing and rescues are full. One of the few low cost vets in the state died a few days ago. Many people cannot care for themselves, much less pets and there are few resources available. The state taxes groceries, FFS. Realistically, the best option for Polly's sick pets is euthanasia, even for the preventable, treatable illnesses. In an ideal world, she would rehome them, but when there's no homes available, what do you do?
I currently live in a major metropolitan area in a prosperous state. There are so many resources for pets here that just don't exist in Alabama, like free spay/neuter/vaccine programs. There's multiple, true no-kill shelters in my city. One shelter I foster for has an FIV+ cat room, an FeLV+ room, a feral cat room, and a senior cat room. There are catios available for the cats. It has a medical foster program with cats with feeding tubes. There's even pet foster programs for people seeking rehab and sober living.
Alabama is so poor, and medical resources so scarce, that it has the 3rd highest maternal death rate in the US.
