That only works where force can actually applied. On the Internet it's basically two groups waving willies at each other forever. There's no actual resolution point by which "conflict" can come to an end.As I said, I believe in democracy and numbers, so the 2 threads should be merged, so we can reach consensus through conflict.
Besides, you're supposing that each faction wants to convince the other. We have a faction here that merely wants to shut down discussion. If a good point is made it's followed by a mess of crass blitz-posting to move things on and stoke slapfights. Why would anyone want that? Well patently it's the case that if there's reasoned argument - even between conflicting factions - real information is produced and false information shot down. That's your "consensus through conflict". But that is not in the interest of anyone who doesn't want people forming their own views. And given the most reasonable view, imo, is that ordinary people would be best served by negotiations taking place and acknowledging that the war sucks for nearly everybody, people who are very pro-war love to thread-wreck.
