𝕏 / Twitter / X, the Social Media Platform Formerly Known as Twitter / "MUSK OWNS TWITTER"

He went onto explain that he was not joking and was seriously trying to find out how to pursue this against Musk:

Originally I thought this was just dumbfuck attention whoring from Elon Musk...He'd better run this shit into the fucking ground. Make every blue checkmark gnash their teeth and cry every time they log on and see what new hoop they'll have to jump through to keep their clout badge. Then take away their power and status over regular users by making them just as susceptible to banning as everyone else.
I never understood the check mark system, but I'm also slow to adopt new things like Social Media. The checkmark system, I had thought, was to identify the real identity of public figures; because bots, scammers and trolls. Can't say when it lost all meaning or value but it certainly has. Martingale that shit Elon, do it until none can afford the dopamine rush of being "verified".
Unrelated, I had heard that there was a lot of salt as bots are starting to get banned on Twitter which means folks are losing subscribers and the loudest Leftist are Reeeing.

Regardless of your personal feelings towards Musk, the fact that the man's very presence makes the overweight trannies squeal keeps me warm at night. Yes, Muskbro, keep driving Twitter to the ground. You're doing God's work here.

Can't say when it lost all meaning or value but it certainly has.
It started being used Punitively. The identification was restricted to "Figures of public notice" or something like that, which just so happened to not include a significant amount of right wing figures. Lefty with 20 followers? Verified. Right Wing Content producer with 100,000 followers on twitter alone? Not a public figure, no verification. In many cases, it was revoked post-fact as a measure against someone saying something undesirable, with little explanation as to why ever given.

It lost all value when it was weaponized, but amusingly enough, it actually stands to gain value when its monetized instead of weaponized. It, at the very least, draws a line between a 'serious' twitter user, who put their personal details and money on the line, and shitposters, who don't give a fuck and ain't trying to be anything. This is a genuinely useful distinction going forward, if Musk were to pursue his prior desires to make the algorithm less a mandate, and more an individual tool for one to cultivate their own feed. Dropping anyone who isn't verified would be an immediate filter of decent quality.

I'm not entirely convinced bots are suddenly being banned. All indications are people either lost access to mod tools, or lost the fucks to give about mod tools, neither would indicate sudden mass bot bannings. Rather, I suspect that bot operators are suspicious, wiping their accounts and backing out before they get all their toys banned. Building a large botnet is easier said than done, and its a tool worth preserving. A smart operator may pull back, wait for the dumber ones to get caught in the newer security measures, and use that knowledge to try and avoid them. No need to be the first one through the breach. The war against bots will never end, but uncertainty always slows it down.

I wish the checkmark good luck because USCIS doesn't play around for stupid shit
I think they'll enjoy getting a frivolous request to hand over someone's immigration files so a retired lawyer/"comedian" can look in it for "lies" that the national security apparatus apparently missed, all for the purpose of punishing someone for charging for services on their website?

Maybe some of the journos making six figures, but lolcows like AmHole man and Moviebob are going to have a really hard time justifying handing $20/mo to Elon Musk when that actually costs them an action figure/case of PBR.
this, i consider it a tax on being a lolcow essentially. one less makers mark for ralph per month.
Thank... Fucking god it happened. I'm just glad to be here to smug about it.
kf back on halloween of all nights and the twitter brigade get to build their own internet after years of only knowing how to take down sites for saying nigger in low effort manners.

The blue check panic over the blue check changes are hilarious. $20/month sounds sharp to the individual, but really anyone who 'needs' to prove who they are on twitter is a business, and $20/month for a business account on any consumer facing service is pennies compared to the value being offered. Even the journoscum really can afford it, what with all their grifting.

Its a great move though, it adds an independent and irrevocable part to verification that allows anyone who actually wants it to pony up, and provides a decent bot filter. Very few bot operators are willing to drop $20 per account plus personal information to try and get through it.

Still got the feeling that $20 might be a "big ask" moment, and that it'll come down to $5/$10 whenever it actually boots out. Its achieved its goal of starting a convo around the whole thing.
My thoughts on this, is what is Ralph going to do? is he going to fork 20 bucks a month to keep the status that so protected him in many ways, or is he going to let it go?

I personally feel his ego will get to him and pay the fee for it.

It's important to note that although a lot of things will change with the acquisition of Twitter by Elon Musk, this does not mean that he suddenly stopped being a wildcard. Don't trust wildcards. He's been known to make decisions arbitrarily.

My prediction is Twitter will not be a haven of any sort for free speech. This short windfall will eventually erode because it's a mainstream public platform and there's pressure from above and below to make sure that this new "status quo" doesn't persist. Don't underestimate that pressure, and don't underestimate Elon's ability to cave to it.

Love all of the malding and repeated daily announcements of imminent departures

>I swear I’m going to leave once the midterms are over
>I swear I’m going to leave if orange man bad comes back
>I swear I’m going to leave if Elon doesn’t give starlink for free and send six trillion to Ukraine

It’s like Groundhog Day for these people
