Tor project core contributors usually justify the project by saying that they're helping political dissidents in their home countries connect to the liberal world. They don't care much about free speech in the West. Much like GPS, it's a project by the U.S. military to promote the ends of the U.S. military, and if it happens to benefit you incidentally, that's a nice side benefit.

No. We're not as big as we or Elliot thinks we are in all honesty. Outside of people in-the-know we're really just a bunch of internet retards being retarded on an obscure corner of the internet. Even Josh blows it out of proportion.
Realistically speaking Elliot is a karen whining about a petty crime and they're hyping up what they're doing as some kind of tranny-saving mission complete with Joss Whedon tier faggoty quips on twitter.
