Well, there are official numbers that each party gave against their interest.
So far, Russian MoD admitted, that Russian casualties are around 5.9k. They admitted to it somewhere around the time partial mobilization was declared (around 1,5 months ago). BBC and their investigation puts number of dead at around 7k at the current moment. (While BBC isn't exactly the most neutral publication when it comes to this war, their investigations in the past yielded numbers that were around the same (+-300) as numbers provided by Russian MoD, so i don't see many reasons to distrust them, considering there is around a month between Russian MoD giving their 5.9k figure and BBC coming up with their 7k. Of course, there is no way to actually know until Russian MoD makes its statement on casualties again.)
There is also data provided by DPR and LPR. DPR data goes up to 20th of October and states that 3459 people were killed and 14652 were wounded in the course of hostilities(and this is military loses only. There is also 1017 civilian deaths and 3218 wounded). Did not see any updates from LPR in a long time (maybe they are there, but i haven't seen them), but they usually a little bit lower than DPR numbers, and last time i have seen them (probably at the end of August), they were somewhere around 2.7-2.8k dead. I guess it safe to assume they would be around the same level as DPR ones by now.
Ukrainian MoD admitted to 9k dead somewhere between Kherson fiasco and Kharkov counteroffensive. That was somewhere in August, i believe. Ukraine is the most timid when it comes to giving any credible looking numbers, while DPR keeps their number of casualties updated on 1 to 2 month bases and usually they look as the most credible from the 4 participants.
While it is not much, but official numbers during August would lead you to believe that loses are somewhere in a 1 to 1 area. There is a lot of debate to be had about how many wounded are not able to return to military service because of their wounds (such as loss of one or multiple limbs, loss of sight and so on). Or what the actual number of prisoners of war each side possesses. Or how many dead are reported as MIAs. Or whether or not both sides include their mercenaries in those figures (i would assume that they do not). While it is all interesting (and pointless) to debate about, but numbers of dead soldiers that each side officially recognizes will look like this:
Russia: 5.9k since somewhere around 22th of September (i believe official number was 5849.)
DPR : 3459 since October 20th.
LPR: around 2.8k since August (from my memory.)
Ukraine: 9k since around middle of August. (timing from memory.)
It is important to remember that neither side have some sort of obligation to report true and honest numbers (maybe DPR/LPR had some constitutional obligation which i do not know of, but now they are part of Russia, so such an obligation, even if existed, now null and void), so, while they may be actual figures at the time, there is no way to prove it and there is no reason to trust them. But the casualties should be at least not lower then officially reported.
