Another thing to consider is the timing of any Presidential nominee declarations. If the latest rumours are correct Trump will announce in 2-3 weeks, and doing so means it's doesn't matter what DeSantis actually wants at that point; Trump by virtue of declaring first sucks all the air out of the room, and being so far ahead in the speculative polling all but secures the spot. DeSantis or someone else could still declare after, but unless Trump drops dead (since we all know any Garland-fuelled indictment or arrest would only make Trump more popular) it's political suicide.
Going to be an interesting few weeks post-Tuesday that's for sure.

At this point it wouldn't surprise me that with a phony indictment it means 90% of the GOP stabs Trump in the back and lets that be their excuse.
The GOP is stupid enough to try and run the 2004 strategy of trying to win the west and Virginia and ignore the rustbelt if Desantis is the candidate. This was the 2004 map:
That can't happen anymore, this would be the best case for Desantis under that Rove strategy and every chance of winning would be based on flipping VA which I just don't see happening, maybe NH flips for Desantis and he wins barely:

I've been saying Ron was a Uniparty Manchurian candidate for over a year now. It's obvious in the way the media attacks him. It's not the Trump "He's the worst man ever, and should disgust anyone of reasonable sensibility" screed. It's "We, the liberal media you hate, are so mad at this guy for doing all the things you like." I wholeheartedly believe the media attacks on DeSantis are designed to influence those that hate the media, but a sort of my reverse psychology.
However, I don't think they are going to have DeSantis try to unseat Trump. That would just burn up the false MAGA star they've been burning capital on. I still say the goal is to prevent Trump from being able to run. DrSantis is there to step in, maybe even as a fire brand against the GOP for however they disqualify Trump. That's their plan though, change the rules, the Dems burn their own capital and charge him, or outright arrest him and that is made a disqualifer, maybe put an age limit on the GOP nomination. The restrictions on the Presidency are not the restrictions on being the party's nomination, they can forbid whoever they like.
It's about making an opening for DeSantis to step into a Trump sized hole, and convincing people that he's not just wearing MAGA sheep's clothing, he's the real deal, stop noticing all the wolf features.

If Desantis competes with Trump he is dead politically. If he wins the primary against Trump, nobody will fucking believe it. Even if he is a RINO faggot in disguise he'd best bide his time if he wants to pull out a Pence for any real impact.

I know I brought it up before, but seriously, Florida will take great umbrage at Desantis in either slot for 24 unless it is literally like, Trump keels over middle of a rally on live tv and his last gasps are "run... Ron..... run! blurhg"

Kari Lake definitely feels like a more authentic Populist/MAGA candidate. I think 2028 would be too early for her, unless she has a really exceptional term in Arizona. 2032/36 depending is a long ways out there, but I see as more viable.

If everybody was on the same page then yeah, Kari after Desantis would be ideal, but I honestly dont fully trust him or at least not till I see he doesn't obstruct Trump on 2024

Figure I'll hop on the current wagon and admit I am wary of Desantis longterm as well. I think at his core he's a groomed traditional GOP good ol' boy and that's what he intends to be further on down the road.
