Armenia was also a client kingdom and Mesopotamia was fought over with the Persians and if you have eyes, you can see that they're east of the Dnieper, so he's wrong.
Well, sure, but it's hundreds of miles away in a completely different direction. The Dnieper is east of the Danube but I don't think the Romans considered anyone in Germania civilized.

Really, the direct influence of Roman civilization stops at the Jireček Line. East of that, the culture was thoroughly Hellenized and so Roman culture and the Latin language never made any significant inroads there. Greek culture and language were still the most prestigious during the period.

Once the Western Empire fell, Justinian was the last native Latin-speaking emperor and the rest were all Greeks.

>Recognize Kherson as Russia
>Leave a little later to set up a trap
>Use artillery to turn the city you just recognized as Russia and the one you just left to dust
I don't doubt that Russia will use some artillery on Kherson at a later date, but saying "No guyz, Russia is only leaving to set up a trap!" Is a nice example of cope.
That sounds like a very russian tactic to me...

Not going to lie, it's a shame that Kherson is going to get Dresden'd. Was a beautiful city. Still, burying hundreds of thousands of NATO scum under rubble is going to be worth it. Hopefully enough of them get captured alive so they can rebuild Kherson later.

Okay there, Justin Trudeau. Destroying your enemies means they win.

Must say, did not expect so much seething. It's pretty amusing.
> nooo you can't lure hundreds of thousands of our troops into a trap, it's NOT FAIR

All of that shit got genocided by the Huns/Avars and wa settled by the Slavs. The Hellenic world really got it's shit pushed in, in the 7th and 8th centuries. Still though, it's retarded to say that Ukraine is part of western civilization just due to an arbitrary line.

Pretty much unless it's part of Greece itself, it's gone in that part of the world. So thoroughly so there isn't much carryover between the cultures.

Arguably Kievan Rus' ties to the Norse Varangians is a closer tie to the West than anything before that.

EDIT: Kherson is in fact named after Chersonesus. Catherine the Great was up to some interesting stuff in the region.

Why would Ukraine need to pour men and equipment into Kherson city lol

Russia has zero chance of crossing the river again. Ukrainian artillery already controls the river. It will now be able to reach almost to Crimea once the Russian retreat is over. Russian artillery and aircraft have been totally incapable at neutralizing Ukrainian artillery. Also been incapable of taking out Ukrainian units in the field

The local population is overwhelmingly anti-Russian and will be even more so with Russia taking the collaborators with it

There is no reason to put anything more than minimal troops into Kherson city and maintain a strong artillery force in the field that will be able to hit deeper over the river. Along with some mobile reserves back a little from the riverbank in case Russia was stupid enough to try to cross. Russia is suddenly going to stop failing at getting worthwhile battlefield use out of its artillery and planes?

By the way, in Syria, Syrian army units held territory in the cities while Russia flattened the rebel held parts. There will be no forces north of the river to hold Ukrainian units, they will be able to maneuver even more at will than before to avoid Russian artillery. Russia has been losing about one plane or helicopter a day over the Kherson battlefields, aircraft strikes are not going to be successful spikes in a trap. Neither will artillery guns and rockets though, as I said those have already been failing since the two Ukrainian counteroffensives started

Much trap such wow

All this vatnigger cope is hilariously dependent on Ukraine abruptly starting to fight the war strategically and tactically way more retarded than Russia has. When Ukraine has been fighting intelligently from the beginning. Only if Russia had already won and Russian generals and the grand high orangutang Putin were in charge of Ukrainian soldiers would Russia have a chance at Ukrainians suddenly fighting so stupid

Ok so I just found this fragment of a Putin speech from today whose translation has been confirmed by a bunch of different sauces and im looking RN for the whole thing because jesus fucking christ.....

We are officially at the "PWEEZE WE JUST WANT TO BE FRIENDS WITH OUR BELOVED UKRAINIAN PARTNERS SO WE RAN AWAY AGAIN AS A GOOD WILL GESTURE SO THEY STOP BEING MEANIES!!!" stage of the three day conquest of Ukraine

Oh and just to remind those who were gurgling about how Ukraine was totally gonna surrender within a week back in february, we aint forgotten this shit

This shit right here is why I am so fucking gleeful at the buck breaking that russia is only now experiencing the messy foreplay to.

Even when you factor out the evil and heinous shit they were and are gleefully doing to civilians, especially women and children, and POWs, all because of what is literally just a national case of small dick syndrome and jealousy because its former subjects want fuck all to do with it, the fact they were so fucking insufferably smug for so goddamn long about how mighty and unstoppable and gloriously powerful their military is and how they are the new multipolar superpower that shall overthrow the western world order and blah-blah-fucking-blah makes their utter military and geopolitical humiliation this past year, the cringing grovelling begging for negotiations and a face saving exit going on now, and the inevitable zimbabwefication of its economy for the next decade so thoroughly delicious to witness.

Sadly, collaborative wargaming amongst every western superpower shows that Ukraine totally didn't consider this contingency and will fall into the perfect trap. It is inevitable.
Only the triumphant return of Sky Ghost Marshal of Kiev Hydenskyy can prevent it

Right, because autistic game theorists at the Pentagon totally didn't consider the possibility of Russia's Kherson withdrawal being a trap.

It's called a shit-eating grin, faggot. Come on, walk into the city. You know Ukrainians need the propaganda victory.
Christ the cope. I know in your brain you are imagining entire brigades of Ukrainian troops getting carpet bombed in downtown Kherson, but that is not how this is going to work and you know it. At most a battalion of infantry and the EOD crews will be sent in, along with civilian police and the exiled municipal government. The Bulk of the Ukrainian Army is going to take up position outside of the town, to await redeployment as things wind down. The only way they would actually go in is if Russia actually dug in for an Urban battle. In which case your little daydream here would also involve thousands of Russian troops getting carpet bombed too.

Let me get this straight, you're saying that Ukraine is going to position the bulk of its army in an open field right outside Kherson, even more exposed to drones and artillery than they would be in the city? Brilliant strategy, let's see how well it plays out.

You need to play less video games, nigga.
