Is it just me, or is she speaking incredibly quickly and with an odd, uncaring cadence? I think she means it to convey as desperation but with the tone and the way she keeps glancing to the side it comes across very much as someone hurrying through a frantic lie instead.
It's incredibly strange, and comes across as deceptive, disingenuous, etc, to the point an autist can read her like a book. It's like pulling teeth for her to admit she let the can spawn, a million can ladies criticizing her a bleeding narc injury in her grandiose brain. She knows more criticism will come, something she just cannot tolerate.
No, she won't freeze. She's insulated well enough to survive on Mars. And what does she care if a couple of her ego fuel "pet children" die, that's just sweet pity points. People like her don't feel concern/care/love for people or pets, they just enjoy the status and power of being provider, sole source of affection, and god to the hoard. They just enjoy what those "objects" provide for them, begging at their feet and providing a source of involuntary affection.
I've seen the potent rage in one of these hoarders watching their "aloof" scapegoat cat get friendly with a temporary caregiver. It's all that matters to them, that feeling of being the whole world to those animals. Just like an abusive parent shitting out kids for fuel, the pets never quite measure up, and they need more and more and more to feed that itch and desire to ultimate subservience.
She calls them children. Would a parent that cared watch their human child die horrifically of an infection just to say "it's mine", or would they turn it in to adoption services if it meant saving their life? Funny how her self serving metaphor only makes her selfishness more obvious.

Haha! Knew this was going to happen. You let an unlicensed driver drive your car, your insurance is null and void. How much you want to bet the car was only insured for one nominated driver, too, because that was the cheapest she could get?
I'm more than willing to make that bet, and I'm also willing to bet that she never even read the terms of her car insurance. She just chose the cheapest one and called it good enough. Foresight? Not Polissa's thing.

"Except I'm in Alabama, where there are no renter's rights unless you have money to pay for a lawyer. Calling the housing authorities won't do anything, not in this state. This is not the first bad renter we have rented from. I had to leave one other house because they wouldn't fix the water leak and I ended up with a $700 water bill, so I had to move out because I couldn't pay that. That was years ago, but with this particular incident, he's not giving me any reason to believe he has insurance on this house. It's not required in Alabama."

"That's a really good question. If it had not been for 2 or 3 really good friends of mine on Twitter consistently sending cat food and cat litter from Amazon, we wouldn't have made it. And there were times I had to use my own food money to buy the cats food. Like human food to be broke down and made like into a pile of food for the cats. Tuna, chicken, pumpkin, barley. Those are all really good items you can feed cats if you're ever in a bind. You can also give them broth that's not salted. So there are options and that's what I have done. But mostly if it hadn't been for my friends providing the cat litter and cat good - we wouldn't have made it."

She knows it, too, and is dancing around by saying "there are no renter's rights unless you have the money to pay for a lawyer." There are no renter's rights because she is completely unwilling to even try. And I say this as someone who 100% believes that Alabama likely favors the landlord legally-- there are indeed states where that's the case, and a lot of them are Southern states. I believe that. But I don't believe that the situation is so hopeless that all she can do is beg for money to move to a tin can trailer.
Also, whether or not he has insurance on the house is irrelevant. He's a landlord who, crucially, is participating in a Section 8 housing program. I've posted the relevant chunks of text before, but Alabama landlords-- by state law-- are required to maintain a habitable structure. And that's before you get into any federal housing program requirements.
I maintain my original position: if repairs aren't getting done, it's because the landlord doesn't even know the full extent of the chaos. I will additionally bet that she got stuck with the $700 water bill because she didn't report the issue in a timely fashion. A $700 water bill didn't happen overnight.

It's not defeatism, this personality type seeks these situations out. She thrives on victimhood status, so setting the stage for being woefully wronged in literally the whole motivation for most of what they do. She deliberately doesn't call, deliberately doesn't go fix these things herself, and deliberately wails that she will lose because if she tries, it might actually get fixed. That doesn't fit her world view. Trying takes mild effort, she wants to apply zero effort, and proving effort can pay off will burn her excuses across the board and hurt her ego.

I watched someone pay rent on an empty house for a year after trashing it because they didn't want to be caught in their destruction. I haven't heard anything about the COPD mattress lawsuit in ages. Last I heard she was dropped by the lawyer for that one. That was... I think that was pre her finding out about us, actually. Somebody needs to point out to her that now that her car insurance claim has been denied, her policy has been cancelled, and the car is totalled anyway, she no longer has any of the expenses associated with car ownership, and thus should now be able to scrape the money together to get the power turned on at the trailer. If her insurer refunds her final payment (or, if she's lucky, retroactively refunds all payments made post-accident), she can get moved, and we can enjoy the, "Grinding rural poverty in a filthy, decaying trailer full of dying hoarded cats, no car, and Josh being unable to work because he can't get there," saga.
Honestly, as shitty as that house is, it's in town and close to job opportunities, shopping, and various essential services. Living without a car in Florence would be a serious inconvenience, but in the country it means isolation, the inability to work, and deeper poverty. You do not want to live in the country without at least one running vehicle. I've seen what it's like for people too poor to afford even the worst beater, and it's fucking grim.
Polissa probably expects Meemaw and Auntie to willingly play chauffeur-on-demand, but they're going to get mighty sick of that, especially once Polissa and all those cats start ruining the trailer in earnest.
