I mean yeah it's just fiction but saving the world and taking down evil can really put stress on a person's psyche it's just a normal coping mechanism for people to give out sarcastic wit one-liners. What do you want these films just to be about as dry as a courtroom drama?

To prove he's a real woman despite constantly saying "I'm not trying to be female, I'm trying to be trans." Jim is effectively trying to be intersex but can't claim that because that would be seen as offensive to intersex people since that's actually more of a birth defect and there a disability. There are more... horrifying possibilities as to why, but I refuse to think about any reason beyond self-validation for the sake of my own mental health.

They were never real journalists. Jim and his ilk just lucked out because they came around in a time when everyone and their mother had a gaming website and needed content so anyone would do.

It was good when Gunn did it because it was different, now every single comic book movie tries to do the exact same thing and it's just boring and played out, the exact same way Far Cry 3 was great when it came out, but every Ubisoft game since sucks because it's just mimicking what Far Cry 3 did instead of trying to innovate the genre in its own way; the same way when Assassin's Creed first came out it was a legitimately interesting concept and new take on the genre, but then every element of gameplay got sandblasted off til it was literally just a case of holding the parkour button forward then pressing square in the vague vicinity of your target to win, then they abandoned any semblance of originality entirely and just turned it into another shitty live service game.

Every single Marvel comic book film.
It was good in Guardians of the Galaxy because those characters were comedic in the comics - their whole premise was meant to be funny but what Marvel got wrong (in my opinion which does not seem to be backed up by the mainstream audience) is that this comedy doesn't work across all characters and all films.
I hated Thor: Ragnarok due to the extreme comedy throughout. Infinity War had them making stupid jokes while the fate of half the universe was in their hands! WTF?

This is why I prefer DC films. Marvel films are never utterly terrible but also are never amazingly good. DC films rarely hit the middle ground. I don't think I've seen a single Marvel film anywhere near as good as Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, 300, V for Vendetta, Watchmen, Wonder Woman (not 1984), A History of Violence, Batman (1989), Superman 1&2 (Christopher Reeves), Man of Steel, Justice League (Snyder Cut) or The Suicide Squad.

I mean, the original Superman film is hardly dry and without a sense of humour (Lex in particular is basically a comedy villain, albeit a dangerous and competent one) but Superman isn't cracking shit, punchline free jokes through the entire running time. One thing I liked about the first Wonder Woman flick was that the jokes in the movie mostly emerge organically from the situations, not the characters acting like arch, ironic observers of their own reality. It's the difference between Diana matter-a-factly mentioning that her people write scholarly treasties about how much fun lesbian sex is to a man born in 19th century America, versus Ant-Man going "Okay, so, that happened."

Superman 2 made this mistake after the original director was fired. The Donner cut is far superior and has far fewer jokes. There is a level of humour in most DC films but it's not in your face and is usually presented more naturally and realistically. Batman Begins where Bruce Wayne and Alfred are talking about going to the party so Alfred asks him if he'll be using the Batmobile. Bruce replies he doesn't want to bring attention so will be taking the Lamborghini, with Alfred sarcastically retorting "Oh yes, much more subtle". Batman 1989 where Vicki Vale asks how she'll know which car is his, etc. These are all dialogue you can imagine occurring in these situations whereas Marvel ones are cracking jokes when people are about to die.

They also benefited from coming up in a time when snarky nihilism was the in thing so you just had to be a perpetually negative prick and you were virtually guaranteed success.

Time has shown who the actually talented people were. Guys like Yahtzee and Metokur are still largely well regarded today because their cynicism is backed up by being actually quick-witted and good with words (also the fact Jim is a genuine nihilist probably helps), while people like Spoony and Jim have burnt out and are rapidly fading into obscurity because the only punchline they ever had was 'this shit sucks. LAUGH YOU PLEBS'.

I agree, this is why I will still give new DC films a chance whereas I wouldn't even watch a new Marvel movie for free because I already know what's going to happen.

As you say DC don't do middle-ground so I know I'm either going to get something genuinely interesting, if flawed in places (Joker, The Batman, The Snyder Cut) or I'm going to get something so bad it is beyond comprehension (Batman Vs Superman, Joss Whedon's Justice League, Suicide Squad 1.0).

Jim has been the best argument to me that gatekeeping is good. The idea that "gatekeeping is mean everyone deserves to be involved" is the same type of hippy dippy reasoning that leads to everything being bottle-necked by the smoothest brain in the room. It's really reminiscent of that magical thinking of an autistic 12 year old, that thinks that everyone can do as well as everyone else, there are some hard realities to life that people like Jim need to realize. And one of those realities is that not everything is made for everyone, and not everyone can be good at everything.

“All games should have a dynamic difficulty so there’s never a time when something is too hard to beat.” Which in reality would just make every game boring since it will quite literally never be challenging and you’ll never feel like you overcame something or developed a skill.

I’ve noticed it’s only ever the lefty’s who have this weird notion that all games should be accessible. I think a lot about that Grounded game that everyone ignored as soon as it game out with its arachnophobia settings that can turn the spiders into giant floating happy faces. Lefty game hour is like Jim praised that feature, but they’re also the same people who try and claim game designer’s intentions are paramount and shouldn’t be attacked even if it makes the game bad. Which baffles me because I’m a game where you’re shrunk and exploring a lawn, you’d think the spider enemies, the hardest enemies in the game, were supposed to be scary. And maybe, if you’re so afraid of spiders that even a cartoon spider in a video game causes you trauma, you’d be smart enough to just not play the game. Turning off an intentionally scary enemy would be like taking a horror game and removing all the monsters and making it bright and cheerful.
Then again, modern horror games are just brainless lore dumps for children,

He called the developers "lazy hack fucks" because the environments look like an asset flip. and that didn't sit well with Sonic fans. They're claiming Jim is harassing the overworked dev team who had been working on this game for a long time and giving the game a 1.5/10 and calling them lazy hacks is "rude" and "exposes that Jim tries to call out industry abuse of devs and workers.... unti it comes time to play their games at which point he stops being kind if he thinks the game sucks, then he becomes a bitter harasser like he's being to Sonic Team, and he was pre-transition to so many indie devs on Greenlight."

It's been hillarious to watch unfold. Even his usual orbiters have called him out. I forsee a tranny exodus from his sub count and patreon.

Also included some examples of even other lgbt people calling him out for his review. returning to actual games criticism rather than just talking about problems of the industry has been a DISASTER for Jimbo, because he's so bitter he can only ever find things to hate anymore. I don't think he's written a single positive review since he's started doing game reviews again. It's like Breath of the Wild all over again. and I REALLY HOPE he doubles down on it like what happened with BOTW and he loses even more of his lgbtq supporters for speaking ill of sonic team.
