Alright y'all, prepare your MATI and Late stickers, cus the newfags gotta vent a bit. I'm a bit behind the curve, as ever since Hololive, I've been kinda casual on VTubing. I loved Kizuna AI back in the day, and even first gen Hololive was pretty interesting from the sidelines, but as time's gone on, I've seen this medium that I looked at as having such potential to be, for lack of a less cringy term, the great equalizer in streaming fall to the same bullshit as normal streaming, and I now eagerly await the death of this genre that I know will never come. I want to underline this: This is coming from a relative casual to the genre, so a lot of my gripes may be solved with more niche vtubers, but I don't know them, and even the few I do know that this doesn't apply to, I.E. Pippa, doesn't change that this seems to be a massive trend in the industry at large. This is not a personal attack, like what you fucking like, and don't act like we're on reddit.
This is all spurred on by IronMouse's new avatar, which, for those out of the know, is a generic demon girl with massive tits and damn near pasties. Now, you can look at my name, I'm hardly a prude, but Mouse has kind of become a perfect microcosm about what I hate about the Vtubing scene these days. This has little to do with her personally, even though I have plenty of gripes there, I'll keep this semi focused.
To keep it short: Vtubing has hit the same 'more money wins' stride that basic streaming has. Just like no one wanted to watch a streamer who didn't have a full lighting setup with high end mics and on the fly soft editing, no one will 'lower' themselves to watch just a basic PNGtuber anymore. Shit, if a Vtuber doesn't have at least a fully articulated model, they're basically fucked already. Basic headtracking just won't do anymore. And then you get the Vshojo's dropping new multi thousand dollar models every other month, and mocking people for not liking it, because it's 'fun' to change models. You get tubers like Snuffy, who's also fallen into the same trap as Mouse, changing her model more than her clothes, each with full 3d tracking and all the bells and whistles. Meanwhile, little Nancy No-Name trying to start out with her bouncing avatar gets to eat shit.
This kinda leads to the other problem, which is the exception to the above: If you have bouncing tits on your model. Vtubing has just become titty streaming for weebs at this point, with all the titty streamer fixin's. Usually has the model taking up damn near a fourth of the screen, of course, cropping just under the tits, plenty of bouncing, Shit, the only thing we're missing is a hot tu- oh, wait, nope, got that too. This isn't even getting into that weird fucking 'vtubers stick feet in your face' phase that went around awhile back. Even streamers like Mori, who I quite like, admittedly, entirely due to her days before going to Vtubing, can't have a single stream that could be considered watchable in a public setting, due to it looking like the opening minutes of a particularly cheap hentai. And don't get me started on the soft core porn side like Shylily. The only counter I've gotten is 'tubers like Gwar Gura which...yeah, it's still sex appeal, just to the type of people we don't talk about.
I'm aware this is all coming off as 'old man yells at clouds', but I've got no where else to get this off my chest, and it really does break my heart. When Sonic the fucking Hedgehog is a better Vtuber by merit of not being just another big tittied female model moaning into a mic than the vast majority of the medium? There's a problem.
