Other people exist only as supporting characters in the movie that is Ricks life. You can tell he writes the script for these interactions ahead of time. "First I'll say this, and they will reply with this, so I will say that, then crack a hilarious joke, then they will respond with this, and finally I'll close the show with the perfect line and I'll be invited in to SFWA." He doesn't know how to respond when someone goes off script so he just sticks to his guns and continues acting out his little play until the other person either keeps engaging with him while getting absolutely nowhere or just blocks him and moves on.
