If you want proof, he wrote an embarrassing love letter to himself where he described himself as part of a new wave of atheist horseman, giving himself the title of "the skeptic".

The crown of this has to be his awful videos about the Jontron/Destiny situation and an attempt to dissect postmodernism, where it becomes clear he has flat zero knowledge of politics or philosophy but thinks he can just elbow in and fill the air with his voice and somehow say anything of importance.

This ego, fuelled by a fanbase (also dumber than him) propelled the fantasy further and now his intellectual over-estimation of himself leaks into all decision-making. How dare he not be a millionaire despite uploading once every 3 months? Why should he edit his scripts and cut down his content to make a point clearly and concisely? Why would he have to commit to a single woman and recognise when he's past his peak? He is a 4d chess 900 IQ mega-genius. He's unlocking the secrets of the universe. The world should dutifully recognise the fruits of his labour, that will last for centuries, and throw up all their resources for him to live and grow fat on.

The penny still hasn't dropped and only the humiliation of entering an occupation he deems 'lesser' and live like us mortals, where having a group of dumb redditors click a red button for you doesn't mean jack or shit and realising he's a fat nobody like everyone else would do him a world of good. When the skeptic community splintered, it went into a number of groups. The Sargon group stuck to it's political guns and while they still got demonetized to fuck, they kept their audience. I think in these kinds of cases it comes down to the difference of whether you're going up in life or down in life, and that's really what makes the big difference between someone like Greg and people in worse conditions who are still somehow happy. Greg is going from the top and crashing back down to the bottom, which has a sense of "Oh god my life has already peaked". In a sense he doesn't have anything to really look forwards to since he already hit the highest he possibly could.

Whereas someone who has started at the bottom but is working to get themselves into a better position has a feeling that they're working their way up to something, which while they're nowhere near as high up as Greg was, just the sense that they're progressing to something better will make them feel a lot better as they at least feels like there are better things ahead. Greg I don't think can ever feel that, I don't think he really will ever have anything to look forwards to or work towards because it'll all be in the shadow of his past success. Maybe he can find a relationship or something to drag him out of it but I don't know who'd want him.

I think part of his problem was that, after the online "skeptic" community became more overtly political and entwined with the Trump phenomenon and he stood aside because he wanted to come across as a "based moderate" or whatever, he lost a lot of steam because it wasn't what his audience wanted, and he didn't have the enthusiasm to force himself to make what they did. I didn't understand what direction his channel was supposed to be going other than just the occasional, somewhat interesting video about cryptids and applying skepticism to ghost hunting, and he barely had anything close to a "release schedule." Dankula is funny and charismatic. That's like 90% why. He also has a lot of self deprecating jokes about his appearance because he doesn't take himself seriously, while Greg is 100% serious about himself being a chad. He's also someone who inspires empathy after what he went through. He's a good person who got shit on by his government and came out triumphant despite he "lost". IICR, he refused to pay them and was ready to go to jail for it, but the government just stole it from his bank account,. Guy's a modern Braveheart, who's not gonna follow someone like this? What has Greg done that makes people think he's the uber alpha he claims to be?

And yes, being a family man helps. People react positively to a person with an stable love life and job. We can say all we want about Sargon, but he's kept his family and personal life aside from his YT or political career. Same for Dankula: his wife (then gf) never abandoned him during all the court process. Hell, he could run around pitching himself as the faceless social media guy for the kind of businesses that don't care about your politics (gun shops, construction companies, ect.) Every time I've spoke to someone with depression they always refuse to change either themselves or their environment. Try it, give one of these people some good honest realistic advice, watch as they contort themselves into knots to ensure that they don't have to actually do anything. They say "that won't work" or demand advice that fits into whatever incredibly narrow world view they have or, and this one my favorite, to simply exclaim "I'm depressed", as if that's an answer to anything.

People like Greg enjoy their misery, it gives them an excuse to sleep in, it lets them ignore their health, it waves away all responsibly for their life or situation. Depression becomes like a cocoon that insulates a person from ever having to try. Self pity is a shield against criticism honest or otherwise. But worse of all is how we "normal" people are forced to put up with giant pussy's incessant waling. They force themselves on everyone around them in the most passive way possible, dragging down family and friends into this black hole of narcissism.

Fundamentally, Grey has no really reason to be depressed, all of his problems are easy to solve but he won't because it's easier to wallow in pity on Twitter.

You're describing a very specific type of person who "suffers from depression" in this day and age, and I agree that these people absolutely need to get their shit together and start acting like adults. I fear that this demographic will only continue to grow, however, and I partially blame society itself for allowing them to indulge in the weaker aspects of their personality. How sad it'd be to know that you've "peaked" by being a cookie-cutter YouTuber with little to your name other than that you once dated a semi-famous thot.

I believe that people like Greg would become immensely more happy by taking on a blue-collar job with hopefully decent pay, and putting himself out there with actual people, perhaps at a workplace which might offer little more than mundane and repetetive tasks, but where you also get to meet and chill with modest and unpretentious people.
