I looked at the greater "walky-verse" and how all these webcomics were supposed to be some grand unified multiverse and realized I really did not care that much about this guy. She is doing this because the girl in skates is, I believe, actually a talking car which somehow built its own human-shaped body (?) to inhabit and because the car originally identified as male (???) and it built itself a female-coded body for itself, it is now trans (????) and Ruth is intervening with threats of violence to prevent what is a human-on-sentient-machine hate crime, which is itself meant to be taken 100% seriously by the reader as an allegory for hate crimes against trans people (I can’t put enough question marks here to express my utter confusion so I won’t even try).

You would not know most of this if you did not at least read (iirc) roughly 2/3s of another Dave Willis comic, Shortpacked!, which is a significant ask of a new reader to your newest webcomic, and even more so when you consider the fact that Willis is extremely prolific. The alternative is immersing oneself in the Walkyverse fandom to find the information necessary to understand why an angry Canadian ginger alcoholic who wants to visit disproportionate violence on another character ought to be considered funny in the same comic that man other character’s fundie father visits the college campus with a firearm to threaten her into returning home with him. Threat One is to be taken as humor while Threat Two is to be taken seriously, despite both involving the use of violence to force a third party into compliance with the aggressor’s sociopolitical views.

Why this double standard should not induce cognitive dissonance on the part of the reader in the author’s mind should be obvious.

But we are told she is a totally uwu marginalised poor victim despite evidence of its utter cuntiness and privileged entitlement being lovingly portrayed.

It joins a diverse cast integrated by Asshole Canadian lesbian, Asshole white american lesbian, Asshole black american asexual, Asshole another black american delinquent, yet another asshole black american retard, Asshole white american straight (nope lol) guy, Asshole asian lesbian, Asshole white straight girl, Asshole white straight girl number 2, Asshole italian bisexual, Asshole italian bisexual number two, Asshole extras number #1, #2 and #3, their abused playthings, and their Asshole trainee Joyce.

It feels like a cult where Mary has been actively resisting being bullied into by remaining solid to her faith, and the only thing she can come up is with (and is so thoroughly offensive to Willis and his readers) as a snap back is "You're going to hell for this" when most situations actually are inviting up a straight up "You CUNTS"

Every woman romantically involved with a man is shrewish, bull-headed and obstinate to the point of hostility. They are holier-than-thou regardless of color or creed, and their romantic partners exist to be repeatedly told and shown that their opinions and ways of life are objectively wrong and ought to be changed, very often to those espoused by their partners. There is not one single doubt in my mind that David Willis has not had a biological woman in his life who has treated him with the respect he deserves as a human being and as such has no conception of what a good relationship with one looks like. I think his mother was habitually emotionally abusive to him and I think he married and sired children with someone who treats him similarly despite apparently being diametrically opposed to his mother’s sociopolitical views.

Callous disregard for a person’s feelings and contempt for their thoughts and feelings transcend both faith and philosophy, however many panels Willis draws to attempt to delude himself otherwise. Redhair Canadian Asshole is an utter cunt initially played for laughs that horrifically abuses her somewhat decent partner, Billie, also played for laughs.

When he decides to seriously address those two relationship he, for some god damned reason, treats their breakup as a big tragedy and those two as some "they are meant to be together" situation in a YA romantic novel way while not shying on RCA toxic personality. Like, it's very overt how shitty, abusive, toxic she is and how much better off Billie is without her, and he accurately portrays psychological manipulation and how Billie is still emotionally captive to RCA way after breaking up with her.

However, he manages to find a way to romanticize all of it.

The other prominent lesbian, Becky, should be left alone with Kiwifarms resident lesbian TERFs to deal with in the backroom for the sake of lesbian rights everywhere. Like those greased hair, suit wearing gentlemen in New Jersey would do.

His issues with romance have been brought up in the past and his defense is that "I love writing fucked up relationships" because it's fun for him and he finds writing a regular romance boring. Also, he seems to have this weird fetish for domestic abuse where in strips he's had other characters talk about how perfect two people are for each other just after watching a scene that would get the cops called. It's part of his disconnect with what he thinks he wrote versus what he actually wrote, and then gets pissy with his audience for interpreting the scene as presented instead of reading Willis' mind.

I'm honestly surprised no LGBT group has come after him for it considering one of his most prolific lesbian couples was always one step away from throwing punches at each other.
