I'll vote for Trump simply because he pisses off the right people, but I am increasingly inclined to think he's not the right person to deal with current issues. The US military isn't going to get better in 4 years when any vet knows the US will fight stupid wars that is never about defending homes or families. Companies are desperate for ESG score instead of actual sales. Left-wing state continue to reserve the right to lock down their states and police are doing their own kind of lying flat by refusing to go on daytime patrols due to a hiring crisis. No one can convince me to do a job--any job--where I can end up like Derek Chauvin especially if I do the job they ask of me in the way they want me to do it. These problems aren't the sort of thing a competent president can deal with.

Happy to see Trump is still going for it.

Trump may not be the ideal person, but he's still the only one with the clout and resources to acually be visible and relevant. It's why it's so damn important he gets in again, fires everything he can and starts hiring fresh blood with potential. From that potential hopefully better things can come. But you have to start somewhere and Trump is still the only person with enough ticks in the boxes to do it.

Though this all means fuck all if the fortified states aren't made to stop their bullshit. So "election denial" will blow up even more in the media.

I've long had this question on my mind (as a non-American) and I never get around asking it: how common is it in your experience for people to identify as part of a political party more than as someone who holds some kind of consistent and fleshed out political opinion?

I've always heard people (usually older people to be fair) talk about how they're a "Republican" or a "Democrat" in the same way that one talks about being a Cowboys fan or a Yankees fan. I've always assumed people calling themselves Republican/Democrat was just shorthand for conservative/liberal, but over the years it seems more like people seem to (once again, my perspective is that of an outsider) really be identifying with one of the big two teams more than anything which just seems insane.

It's dependent on IQ, in my experience.

The only reasons to be happy about the GOP taking the house are these two:

Republicans will now be committee chairs. This could mean much or it could mean nothing, depending in large part in who they choose. They should also play by the rules the Dems used for the Jan 6 committee and refuse to seat the minority's picks for their seats, but of course they won't. Still, committee chairs have a huge role in determining how witnesses can be questioned.

Republicans now have the power to subpoena documents and officials to testify. The results from this, too, is largely dependent on who is picked to run committees. Will they even ask for the right documents? Will they even know what the right documents to ask for are? Regardless, every single document request or subpoena will be fought by the White House under the mantra of executive privilege, and when forced to turn over documents (assuming the courts agree), compliance will be slow/deliberately obfuscating/very incomplete.

Republican subpoenas for testimony from officials will be fought every step of the way, but courts are likely to force the issue in Republican favor. This will result in some amazing soundclips, because government officials are generally absolutely terrible under questioning. They always sound like low-IQ sociopaths, and this administration in particular is actually packed with low-IQ sociopaths. A likely scenario is a bunch of lies, probably really stupid lies that will almost immediately be picked apart. No one will be punished by this because there's no way that the DOJ is going to prosecute any Executive branch officials in a Dem administration. They never are. Still, I'm really looking forward to Mayorkas, Fauci, and Garland testifying. None of the three are any good under pressure. Committee chairs have a huge role in determining how witnesses can be questioned, and Dem committee chairs won't be there to shut down questions anymore.

Because the republicans did self-sabotage. All they had to do is say inflation bad and we'll fix it.
You're all missing the point entirely.
They didn't self sabotage.

Firstly, there is no defined Republican Party. There are those who are aligned to the Uniparty, there are those who are independent and there are those who are MAGA.
It boggles the mind that people are still thinking in terms of clear partisanship. It's pure delusion.

Secondly, what on God's green earth about the last 7 years has said to you "Oh yes, the US is 100% a free and open society".
Arizona cheated in 2020 and they're openly cheating now. The NYT ran the infamous fortification article. Wisconsin is absolutely rife with voting corruption.

I don't know if you Burgers are willfully ignorant or what, but if this were a third world country, you'd whole heartedly accept that this country, this "US" is politically corrupt and has wonky elections. But you seem to think that because you're the U.S you're immune to it?
I hate to tell you, but the rest of the world, even the shitholes, can see you're in Banana Republic-land now.

If all your checks and balances - Courts, Media, Institutions, Tech, The Social Space - are wholesale owned by those who seek to control the system, no amount of election promises, stumping or voting will fix that.

3 minutes until NASA's big ass moon rocket launches. With this and Eastern Europe BS, we're partying like it's 1968 -- minus the good music. Otherwise, this is good American news IMO I wanted to share. :)
It's a massively overbudget bunch of junk whose goal isn't actually science but the virtue signal rights of saying we put wahmenz and nigs on the moon. But since NASA is so rife with virtue signallers and diversity hires, maybe we'll get another Apollo 1 or Apollo 13.

Either that or he'll do something really bizarre to try to divide the democrat voter base. Like try to get tulsi as his VP. I doubt it but with him I wouldn't put it entirely past him. Though if he really wanted to fuck people name bernie sanders as his VP to force the bernie bros to vote for him. or hilary clinton. Not that such a thing would ever happen but having the left be forced to vote for trump to get bernie or clinton in with him would cause the meltdown of all meltdowns. Though we'd never see the end of the left trying to move heaven and earth to have him impeached the day after he took office to get the VP replacing him

That said, an added bonus would be the insane rationalizations you'd see from people like lucas werner as to why they should vote trump so bernie can win despite despising trump. There would be some serious mental gymnastics going on from the left to be sure

On Trump running. Although there's plenty of issues right now, I think his Joker card will be how badly the Biden admin continues to fuck the economy and other shit up even further over the next two years.

When peeps can't buy food, pay their mortgage/rent, and are paying $10 for a gallon of gas or diesel, shit gonna get real in a hurry. Not even going to speculate on a foreign conflict breaking out, but that would be icing on Trump's cake and his election chances.

In the meantime, all of this is just political masturbation.

DeSantis has been getting courted by donors and GOPe who want him as the GOP nominee.

Even if DeSantis tries to avoid directly going against Trump, his allies will and it'll be seen as attacks by DeSantis and his side which would fuck up his chances of being running mate.

Also a lot of politicians like Katie Hobbs and AOC have taken up the more cowardly position of never addressing critics/opponents of any sort to avoid having to answer any criticisms, which seems to be DeSantis' plan. It's a gamble how well that'd work for DeSantis since he'd be needing to appeal to right wingers that are paying attention to right wing media that sorta has to talk about some of what Trump says (was surprised that Fox News apparently showed most of Trump's speech).

So what I'm guessing will happen is DeSantis will try to stay silent about Trump while his lackeys go after him, Trump will joke around in rallies that may be shown on Fox (I'll be a little surprised if they do) while generally criticizing the sanctimonious attitude of DeSantis and his side. Lot of right wingers will see that and end up siding with Trump while being bewildered by the cucked nature of DeSantis, but ultimately thinking DeSantis is still a good egg in a Dan Crenshaw or Kasich sort of way. So DeSantis could come out relatively unscathed politically while Trump torches his chances of being considered MAGA.

This means fuck all if vote counting is still getting fucked with in 2 years though. Venezuela is pretty much hell on earth and the same retards are still at the wheel. Muts at least have guns but if we are already talking of going there then we already accepted that a by the book approach is off the table.

On an interesting note, Ivanka says in a statement she will be staying out of politics and won't be campaigning with her dad this time around. Perhaps Trump will be more "America First" than he was in 2016.
Good, continues from the good signs of him not having a few notorious people on his staff.

Also, sorry I have been gone during these fascinating times. The weeks and days after an election are often the busiest in my line of work. Especially if one of your main employers won.
