Personally, I think women degraded and humiliated men for the things they were interested in, and relegated them to the nerd corner. When those interests became mainstream, women wielded the cudgel of feminism and equity to invade those coveted, traditionally male spaces and hobbies, not only demanding tolerance for their presence, but also for their preferences and sensibilities. This quickly extended to the workplace. In every way, being a woman in Western society became a huge leg up, and the value and relevance men have enjoyed for time immemorial fucked right off. But they were not going to be one-upped by women. They found their value again, as "women." And just like women did to them, they wielded the equity cudgel and demanded entry, not to D&D sessions and anime clubs, but to women's most personal, private spaces.
TL;DR: Women pushed these men out of every conceivable place in society, so they became women. Now, no one can ever push them out again.

See, there's an aspect of female rejection that people seem to think plays a role in this, and we're all thinking of the M'Lady types but genuinely a lot of the people who seem high risk for trooning out fall into the "intimidated by women" bit. Or at least in the "afraid of interacting with women" bit.
Cause as autistic as it sounds, raised in a household of women constantly bitching about the creepy shit they put up with led me to being incredibly hesitant and it wasn't until I was in highschool that it clicked the girl who kept asking me about the game I was playing was maybe interested in more than Warcraft 3.
So you get these people who are scared to interact with women due to whatever past or hangups they have, they troon out, and when the handmaidens give them, FINALLY give them attention it's like crack. And was weird as it fucking sounds, now they are faced with two options. Go back to normal and never getting any attention or becoming a freak and immediately getting a care network that men rarely have. Then you wield your existance like a hammer because you are resentful of the years before.

I come across a fair few respetable trannies on dating apps here.
